Some performance tweaks/fixes

I missed that. A few years ago, I did use the XBox Game bar and had Elite selected as a game to use for that mode. Now I understand why it increases FPS for Elite when I set it to off.

Thanks.
Just checked, seems like Elite Dangerous is detected/included pr. default or because I have Steam linket since at least all my installed Steam Games are there.

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\Children

From Microsoft Site:
The bottom line is, Game Mode can be used for all gaming applications. For example, any graphic or CPU intensive apps that you feel the need to get an extra boost in performance, you can launch the Game bar and tell Windows 10 that the current application is a “game” and to enable Game Mode for the app.

Seems to lower FPS when a game is run under the Game Bar. Vague as to "get an extra boost in performance".

Seems not listing Elite in Game Bar, or turning it off will increase FPS.
ON vs OFF doesn't matter for ED on my end, which Windows build and Game Bar version are you on?

Are you in the Insider preview channel?

Yes. You can turn on Insider preview channel and download the latest Windows 10 preview builds. I doubt the Feature Experience will help you or Odyssey.

Typical Microsoft. You say "Off", Microsoft says no, On.

Game Mode is on by "default" in Windows 10,

Some Windows users have reported that some games actually perform more slowly with Game Mode enabled. It sounds strange, and it certainly shouldn’t work this way—but it sometimes does.

Thanks, I'm aware of Insider and Game Mode details.
For some reason most games run better on my setup with Game Mode and HAGS rather than using NVCPL Low Latency and such, I have seen several reports from people having issues with on and/or the other though, not quite sure where the difference could be, to many variables from system to system.
One thing that could be nice from Microsoft's side could be to add blacklisting into it, so that if someone runs into an issue with certain games while it helps for others, at least they can blacklist them instead of disabling it globally.

I checked up on the WFEP up, it' shouldn't do a difference regarding Game Mode since it adresses a touch keyboard issue.

Something odd: the lower the SS setting or resolution, the less these tweaks do. With SS at .65 and res at 4k these tweaks have a ~5fps gain in concourse and little to nothing elsewhere. With SS=1 it's a 25fps gain.

Planetary performance seems based on ships. Patrolships, dropships, visiting ships: it all causes severe stuttering.

Maybe a shadow issue?

From inside or outside the srv ? I need to check if there's a shader that can be disabled for this.
Could be LensFlares and maybe some other FX?
Those can be disabled via override or directly in GraphicsConfiguration.xml by setting Enabled to false.

<LensFlares>
<Off>
<LocalisationName>$QUALITY_OFF;</LocalisationName>
<Enabled>false</Enabled>
<QualityIndex>0</QualityIndex>
<ImportanceThreshold>2</ImportanceThreshold>
</Off>
<Low>
<LocalisationName>$QUALITY_LOW;</LocalisationName>
<Enabled>false</Enabled>
<QualityIndex>0</QualityIndex>
<ImportanceThreshold>2</ImportanceThreshold>
</Low>
<Medium>
<LocalisationName>$QUALITY_MEDIUM;</LocalisationName>

<High>

GJ... Thanks for sharing, this mod really kick ass of my old Lenovo Y50. With it i get almost the performance of ED Horizons.

I particularly notice it from the outside when returning to it. It's lit up like a Christmas tree with star reflections and looks very fake (even with your other mods enabled).

I think they need to urgently redo all of the reflection tech to be less resource intensive and way more subtle before this beta ends (lol). I would think that in the 3300's glass technology would not have so much glare and reflections obscuring the view. I am always amused too when inside powered down buildings before restoring power with the roof shutters closed and I can still see star reflections in the roof windows and corridors.

Definitely just star reflections, not other FX. And these jitter and pop on and off when walking around it

Did try the latest developer build of W11 today, so far it looks promising.
Game Mode now lists all games and apps that it knows about, end user can select power saving or performance for each individual app, it suggests performance for all games on my rig except for Death Stranding, didn't test that game today though, focus was EDO.

So I was flying a bit around, only drops I did notice where in stations related to glass, was better on my end with update 5 than the previous updates though, 1440p SDR everything maxed out, drop down to 60fps from 90.
Else fps was pretty fine, even around settlements and ports on the planet I checked out, not much activity around the settlements I found though, around 100-140.
In space fps maxed completely out, 167fps.
Auto HDR had some bad issues with the game, reported part of it to MS, doubt that their shader will be useful for ED though, debris in space gets a lot of ugly banding and it made the game drops to 30fps when on my way to the ship in a station, was just looking at a floor tile, the same in SDR yields 101fps.
Inside a planets port fps drop was also quite huge with Auto HDR enabled.

There is one noticeable difference for me between EDH and EDO regardless of fps, increased GPU temperature.

Rolled back to my backup of Windows 10, since I will loose to much if I have to go for a clean install later this year.

A nice little bonus for the glass reflections mods... they seem to make the concourse glass always transparent, i.e. not turn grey at a distance from outside. And this does not affect performance.

From completing 4 or 5 surface restore missions and multiple visits to various concourses, I can say categorically with the glass reflections off, and the in-game setting for spot shadow set to medium, I am finding the performance on those game play areas now very acceptable, not as much a steady state as in space but MUCH better.

Another trick you can try is setting Super Sampling to 0.85 and CAS to around 60%
I think it looks better that SS 1.0 and the games native sharpening and I also gain some fps on top.
A wild guess is that the native sharpening is based on luma sharpening, usually comes with FXAA/SMAA, so in reality even just using CAS should yield better performance while also looking better.

I'm not a huge fan of getting rid of all glass reflections, especially when it makes the cavity disappear on ships.

I'm going to release a new version which fixes helmets and cockpits (I'll look at the SRV next).
I found how to disable problematic shaders on some NPC's hairs, but it makes the hairs completely black :(

Is it Ok if i switch the hotkeys to CTRL+SHIFT+Fx ? (F1,F2, F3 etc)
