I want to start this post off by saying that I absolutely LOVE playing Planet Zoo, as it is objectively the best zoo simulation game out there. The fact that it evolves from Zoo Tycoon 2 with stuff like custom weather systems, gorgeous foliage, new methods of transportation from the base game (e.g. monorail, train, gondola, boat, etc.) and greater species diversity is mind-boggling, and seeing content creators like RubleTrillions, Haribo, Iben, and Leaf Productions' fantastical creations (and even having the fortune to work with people like Zekin and Leaf on projects like Arcadia, Hutan Rimba Conservation Centre and Suyana Zoo) is something beyond my wildest dreams.
As is the case with anything I absolutely enjoy, naturally there are things I'd be bound to notice about the way things work that may initially start as a minor annoyance and then unfortunately spiral into a major gripe. I want to preface this by saying I have absolutely zero ill will or malice towards anyone or anything, the issue I have boils down to the regular 3 month droughts of content with not a clue in sight as to what is next. I can see the reasoning behind this as ramping up hype in the foreground, while in the background, the developers are tirelessly and excitedly toiling and tinkering, eager to bring new content to show to us. I wholeheartedly understand that unique rigs take an immense amount of time, and I love seeing the unique animals and animations that have spawned from packs such as Africa, Australia, Aquatic and even South America. And I also understand that if something were to be revealed too soon, then that would kill any potential hype for whatever new content is being released. That said, SOME KIND OF CLUE would be nice in terms of tiding the community over information-wise. Being left in the dark for a significant amount of time inevitably leads to an unhealthy ebb and flow of activity as well as a general feeling of unwarranted resentment from the community towards the wrong people. Even something which used to be fun, like speculation, has turned into a circular conversation along the lines of "I think it's gonna be North America! My species list is XYZ" "Oh yeah? My species list is ZYX!".
Rather than continue to mope, I would like to offer a couple suggestions as to prevent keeping us in the dark for a significant amount of time. Initially, I thought a roadmap of the next few DLCs would be a good idea, however the issue arises that it could be a scenario of revealing Frontier's Trump Card too early. A good friend of mine suggested that a week after the next DLC is released, some cryptic hint would be showcased regarding the DLC after that. Said cryptic hints could be sporadic, but would certainly engage actual speculation rather than "well, we're getting North America, Birds, and insert other ideas here". In the astronomical chance that something like a Primate Pack was being worked on in 2022, maybe an image of a strand of fur can be released one week, and maybe in the final week or so leading up to the DLC (much like South America), a video is released showcasing an empty island rife with climbing structures, and no audio is playing other than the rustling of bushes/the ambient map sounds, before the call of a siamang is heard. Something like THAT would be genuinely amazing in my humble opinion, and would lead to more positive community engagement new content-wise.
I want to reiterate that I wish ill will and malice to none, and I merely want to put forward something I have noticed.
Thank you for your time, and I hope my equivalent of The Silmarillion has left you with pause.
