Spring dlc Speculation 2023

My hard read / prediction is going to be a farm pack.

If that's going to be the next DLC, this would be my list of animals

  • Cows: Ankole-Watusi // Highland cattle // Texas Longhorn // Zebu
  • Pigs: Kunekune // Vietnamese Pot-bellied // Danish Protest Pig [Breeding populations exist in several German zoos. The preservation of this breed is supported for its cultural value]
  • Sheeps: Romanov Sheep // Jacob Sheep // Barbados Black Belly
  • Goats: Anglo-Nubian goat // Arapawa goat [critically close to extinction] // African Pygmy goat
  • Ducks: Abacot Ranger //Saxony Duck // Mandarin Duck // Mallard // Wood Duck

People I see who don’t like farm animals, these are animals we as humans have made. They’re animals that we have designed to be exactly as they are. Selective breeding has brought to us some interesting animals, some with long horns and some with long fur. I’m always amazed and interested by how much culture, demand, the economy, and the human mind can influence and create these animals from one single species each. It’s incredible. I will always be the number one domestic supporter. They’re freaking awesome.

The only thing I'm feeling confident enough to predict is that at least one of the update features would 100% be a signal for a barnyard/domestics/petting zoo pack (namely, guest interactions with the llama).

I could definitely see something along these lines in the update, if this is the upcoming pack. That said, I think they’d be more likely to choose a base game animal for guest feeding, or whatever feature would promote the theme, than one also tied to a past DLC.

It’d give more motivation for a wider player base to boot up and return to playing as free new content, in contrast to only the fraction that have the base game plus the specific dlc this animal would come from. Though maybe attrition rates are high enough for this not to be such a factor…

I also think a farm pack could happen and I would like it. It could bring us some more realistic props like we got with the conservation pack, e.g. hay bales and more realistic feeders.

Speaking of animals in a scenery pack I would go with these:
  • African pygmy goat - probably the most common goat breed in the world and very common in petting zoos, it has to be included
  • Shetland pony - very common as well and looking at the Przewalski's horse Frontier really nails equidae
  • Vietnamese pot bellied pig - cute little pig breed which is also often seen in petting zoo areas and adds an Asian domestic breed to the pack
  • Indian runner duck - finally some waterfowl!
  • WE: dwarf rabbit - used in the walkthrough exhibits with special guest interactions
Honourable mentions: Scottisch Highland cattle, cameroon sheep, guinea pig, budgerigar (WE)

I cant say that a petting zoo/farm pack is something that i would be super excited for, not that id hate it but you know, not my first choice
Though i imagine it would have cool scenery if its gonna be a 4+1 pack, which i hope it would be

Domestic pack would be my worst nightmare. I am not a supporter of such ideas. In my opinion that would be a total waste of slots.
I would never forget how llama instead of guanaco ruined the SA pack for me.
I have always supported any idea that popped up here on forum and was happy for the people who received the animals they’ve craved.
But not this time. I really hope that we would never ever see a domestic animals pack.

Farm animals are good, but... they aren't the best choice for me. We have tons of wild animals to introduce to the game, but if that slots are stolen by a sheep or a rabitt, it wouldn't be the best news for me.
I understand why people like and want more domestic animals, but i prefer much more the titanic amount of more interesting wild animals that would fit better.

If they are going to do a domestic pack, I think it would be better if it wasn't one of the last 2 or 3 packs. Then, I wouldn't feel like the slots for my favorite wild species were "stolen" by domestics. Personally I like wild species better, but there are some interesting domestic breeds, especially for cows. It has the potential to be a good pack.

I agree with you however, I do get the point that there’re zoos have petting zoos in it for realism. I want to point out something (this is my opinion, please don’t take this seriously please lol): zoo nowadays are focusing and working on welfare and conservation efforts of the animals rather than entertaining guests with domestic animals.

Is that truly benefit and welfare for them? They’re to entertain the guests. I prefer to see frontier to keep focus with their welfare and conservation for this game.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more viscerally I hate the idea. Honestly, domestic animals in zoos are a complete waste of space and resources, and the same for Planet Zoo.

I love livestock, but they can be celebrated at county fairs, farm stays or actual working farms, not in zoos. I would hate to have domestic species in game taking 5-8 spaces that could have been wildlife! I don’t ever want more domestic species in game.

If y’all want cattle, sheep and ducks, there are plenty of wild species to choose from before we get lumped with a guernsey, merino and mallards! 🤣

well right now they didn't mention anything about ✨Special Livestream ✨ or any livestream for PZ. But the thing is we can't know if there will be a stream this week at all or not because they changed it to be a livestream in two weeks so it's hard to know if they are going to update it or if it will remain and only next week will be a ✨Special Livestream ✨

So exactly the same as last time, no need to panic everyone

The biggest argument against a pack "barnyard/petting zoo" pack is the fact that most of the animals aren't particularly highly-requested. But, despite that, I feel like people have been steadily requesting many of the petting zoo features since the game's inception up through 2023. And you kinda need the animals to justify that. The question is: Would it offset the people who would be really bummed and not want to purchase the pack? TBH, it probably would.

And if they went with "domestics" instead of barnyard for the scenery? You could get that dromedary in-game. Which might appease folks a bit. Especially if they went for an exotic pig species, African pygmy goat, and a rabbit for the remaining animals. It would also open the door for budgies! It would make the pack feel a little lopsided in terms of animal picks but...

Regardless, the big draw for me, I think, would be the scenery. A clapboard wall set. A new fence type. Stone wall scenery items (including rubble to show age/wear). New feeder types and troughs. More backstage-type items. Smaller mesh pieces. Focusing on "farms" could be a nice way to add more of that "general zoo" scenery people have been asking for.

And when you think about the other options (e.g., "islands" or "highlands" or "forest") I'm struggling to think of scenery that would make sense - and would align with the animals. "Tropical/jungle" is the one theme I can think of where scenery would be awesome.

If it's an animal pack and we get domestics? I would probably be bummed. But I dunno. It would be a bigger disappointment to me if we got a "forest" or "tropical" scenery pack knowing how many animals of that type people are really wanting in-game... To me, it just means there's bigger things coming in terms of animals. If that makes sense.

I mean, there's a gap in Wednesday's schedule... The special livestream tends to get added later. Maybe we're due for an update announcement tomorrow with a special livestream on Wednesday?

The livestream usually gets announced on the day of the update announcement...
