Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I hope for farm animals because I need more of low appeal areas in my zoos to disperse the crowds a little bit and honestly all thats missing for a believable zoo that feels complete is a petting zoo/mini zoo area. Better now than at the end of the game's support because if it comes later then there will be even more dissatisfied people (they are never going to include everyone's desired animals anyway)

The more I think and talk about it, the more I'm into the farm/barnyard idea - but specifically as a scenery pack. And probably with a loose "domestic" theme for the animals instead. Give me a fancy pig, a goat, the dromedary, and a rabbit? And I'm thrilled. Throw-in the budgies as exhibit animals and I'm super thrilled. But really it's the potential for scenery items that gets me excited. It would be a nice way to work in a lot of things we've needed for a while for zoos in general too...

And, realistically, I think we should be banking on a scenery set at this point. I strongly contend that an "Islands" pack as people want it animal-wise wouldn't be able to have consistent theming WRT scenery... And a tropical/rainforest pack, or even a highlands/mountain scenery pack, would leave people wanting more animals.

I'm not 100% convinced the farm/barnyard pack is happening. But I think it'd be a better 'scenery' pack and would make a decent sacrificial lamb (pun intended) to ensure that we get an animal pack with as many jungle or mountain animals as possible!

(Fast forward 24 hours and it's none of these packs and Frontier has opted to give us the first building pieces-only DLC with 500+ building pieces. And the new feature is catered gazebo weddings for guests.)

Planet Zoo: My Wedding Stories! Complete with free roaming peafowl serving as attendants, as well as one escaped animal...which unfortunately for all involved will be the Salt Water Crocodile.

Island pack as scenery pack can have themes like beach, Caribbean, pirate, Hawaii, etc., Something like that. I personally want highland/mountain and tropical/rainforest pack as animal pack since it's biome pack. If it's scenery, mountain pack can work as having Himalayan themes (Villages in Himalaya and Nepal/Bhutan theme) as they have beautiful buildings and architecture along with more rocks which would be nice and some more mountain vegetations.

Tropical Rainforest as scenery pack probably will be similar to SA pack, but with much more foliage which would be amazing and more building pieces based on architecture and buildings in tropical rainforest around the world (Not just SA, including African Rainforest, Asian Rainforest, etc.)

I do get that if those packs are scenery may will leave people wanting more animals, same thing as me with conservation pack, it's a great pack with amazing building pieces, but for me it could've been animal pack with more endangered animals in it like pere david deer, black rhino, tasmanian devil, addax, etc.

Unironically, got mods and completely seperate high quality farm games.

There is only one high quality zoo game, with roughly 20-40 slots realistically left, likely closer to 20 than 40.

I'd rather not waste those slots on domestics unless we get like 40-50 more slots
Why just 20?
Id assume we get 2 scenery and 2 animal packs this year, adding them all up would leave us with 36 if they stick to the 4+1 or 7+1 formular

Same here.

I don't hate them (there are even some domestics i would like: highland cattle, ankole watusi, dromedary camel, shetland pony, a lot of ducks (although mostly wild ones)) but i think they are low priority for the game.

Only good i can think out of this is the free update being about guest animal interactions.

26 actually, and maybe 1 more anniversary animal. Of course, that's counting whatever multiples may (or may not) come in WTE/NWTE as one, but in reality could actually be closer to 36 animals in total.

FWIW based on other comments, I'm looking at potential packs as Scenery or Animal packs as follows:
Scenery Pack - Petting Zoo/Farmlands, Islands, Highlands
Animal Pack - Deserts, Rainforests, Aviaries and possibly Tundra

That's sort of my point about the "islands" pack though. In that scenario, the animals people really want that pack for wouldn't match onto the themed item sets.

For rainforest/jungle, and even highlands/mountains, there's plenty of scenery options. But when you look at the number of animals people want in those regions? A scenery pack would never be able to do justice to what the community is really wanting.

I would argue that the Conservation pack was actually "fine" as it didn't limit the capacity to add animals in other packs. It felt more like a "random" pack than anything.

So far the number of species added in DLCs has gone up every year (if we include both habitat and exhibit), so it is actually hard to know what to expect.
To be fair, the butterflies were probably a one off, given how butterflies essentially only really require a texture and size change to make multiple species so they are closer in actual work to making variants for an already existing animal than to making new animals. I wouldn't really extrapolate the fact that we got 5 butterflies to being a sign we'll get more animals added to the pack numbers.

I think it's safe to say that, except for exceptions like the butterfly, we can expect animal packs to have 8 animals and scenery packs 5.

Just like the Africa Pack and North African scenery. Granted, that's much more similar than talking about Oceania/African animals and Caribbean scenery, but on the other hand, that's how that region would be represented, so it's truly "islands from all over the world".

A broad Austronesian theme (rather than specifically Polynesian or Hawaiian), would actually fit a bunch of popularly suggested animals for Islands, including the fossa, tree kangaroo, kiwi, anoa and nene. Of course Austronesia is far from a single homogenised culture, but neither is Europe, and I think Frontier could pull it off respectfully if they put their minds to it.

It’s also not really a zoo theme but that’s almost to be expected at this point - they always manage to sneak in some very useful pieces regardless, and with Austronesia specifically there’s a lot of potential for unique roof and wood pieces.
