Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I think the reason why the same Islands roster keeps popping up is actually rather simple - aside from people just copying it from one other, the devil, fossa, kiwi and tree kangaroo are the four most popular island endemic animals on every metawishlist, so they’re just the most obvious and popular possible choices. It just happens that three of them are from Oceania, the same way that it just happens that three of the most popular endangered animals (Przewalski’s horse, Amur leopard and a gibbon) were from Asia.

Is it the best roster for islands? Well, that’s up to everyone’s personal discretion. I’d be super happy with it, but I also wouldn’t mind if they swapped out the tree kangaroo or kiwi for a more oddball pick like an anoa.

That's why i also think that the Islands pack should be an animal pack. Sure the potential scenery pieces would be awesome to have, but the variety of insular fauna around the world and the number of iconic and famous islands out there deserves an animal focus DLC.

And while i agree that form a publicity stand point using a tropical island theme for the cover art and mascot is the way to go to sell this pack to the casual player, the game also has some focus on conservation and education and so a pack with a bunch of endemic, unique, endangered animals that showcases the diversity of fauna and environments in iconic islands all over the globe is also something that fits with their brand.

I think it is all of this, popularity and repetition on the roster. The only drawback is it leaves out any New World animals but it's a really solid roster, IMO. If Fronter were able to manage to design the animals, they honestly have a very straightforward path to what animals to include to make the majority of people happy. It's probably the easiest go-to line up we'd have, and that's saying a lot considering how greatly the Africa/North America/Europe lineups were received.

I agree, I’ve always been a proponent of islands being an animal pack over a scenery pack (although I think the latter is just more likely). They’re also more fun to discuss at this point given it’s not just the same four habitat animals over and over - my optimum additional habitat animals at the moment are the lowland anoa, nene and Cuban crocodile.

Umm the Africa pack includes a lot of fan favorites, but it also cheated with the penguin. Most of its qualities come from the building pieces though. I think an animal pack would've been better suited for Africa but at that point there was a majority of african animals in the game.

Yeah, mine are the tanuki, the brown pelican and the rockhopper penguin.

(and i also think that if an animal pack then no treeroo so a fourth animal as well... would love the victoria crowned pigeon but those are too many birds on one pack, which makes it pretty unrealistic for Frontier lol)

My island pack would be Tasmanian Devil, Fossa, Kiwi and I'm stuck between these because I can't pick which is good for this pack: Sulawesi/Black Crested Macaque, Banteng, Lowland Anoa and Visayan Warty Pig for more monkey/cattle/pig species and are endangered too.

I know there's no tree kangaroo in my island pack, I would keep that for tropical rainforest or swap it to kiwi. I would love Aye-Aye in this pack though...

How about we compromise and settle on an Islands Domestics Pack:

Shetland Pony
Domestic Pig (the ones that swim on the coast of the bahamas)
Scottish Highland Cattle
Red Junglefowl
Bunnys from the Japanese Bunny Island Tourist Attraction
Domestic Sheep (they are really important to Ireland!!)
WE: Budgie

(please don't kill me, it's just a joke 😂 )

I wouldn't say no to an animal pack. I've been doing some more reading about Porcupines to expand beyond the Crested/Cape/Indian/North America/Brazilian species - the latter of which could easily be the oddball pick for a Rainforest or Aboreal pack. There's a couple of Old World Porcupines that live on islands, both the Philippine and the Sumatran Porcupine.

To say nothing of the Rhinos, Tigers and Gibbons. Then jumping back to Madagascar and the very visually unique Aye-Aye. Then we have the Hawaiian and Mediterranean Monk seals. A shame for many reasons the Caribbean Monk Seal is extinct.

Ah as we go round and round in the Africa/Asia/Oceania range though. If we went full Animal Pack I would hope that there would be at least one representative from the New World, but what. It seems like most of the thoughts I've had for one have ranges that extend beyond islands (American Flamingo), or are just tremendously obscure (Sable Island Horse)

I would unironically support this idea

I'd rather have the Gaur instead of the Banteng, but sadly they don't have range on any island countries I don't think

Tasmanian Devil, Fossa, Kiwi, Lar Gibbon, Asian Water Monitor, Tanuki, Tree Kangaroo and a few song birds for the Walk through Exhibit?

That's my prediction, it was hard to come up with.

We still need more asian animals though, we are still missing animals from Western Asia and north Asia. I know we have Southeast Asia pack, but SEA pack doesn’t represent and cover all of Asia since Asia is the biggest and diverse continent

Oh for sure. How about:

Lar Gibbon
Indian Porcupine
Sand Cat
Golden Jackal
Saiga Antelope
Markhor
Black Headed Ibis
Indian Cobra

Other possibilities: the Blackbuck, Persian Onager, a Takin species, Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Rhino (I know how those last two would be received though), the Gaur just as a few

I mean, I'm one of those people who doesn't feel like we need a lot more Asian animals, but the possibilities are definitely there.

Oh! Oh! Oh! I forgot about ...The Wolverine! Even though I tend to think of it as a North American mostly, it would be welcome in any kind of pack it could shove, bite, or claw its way into.
