Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Weird frontier released the camp cretaceous dlc for jwe2 in march and next month the wetland dlc for pz. Maybe universal pressuring them for a dlc each 3 months?
That's an interesting point, maybe could explain the smaller content for the same price planet zoo pays for pretty much double the animals (I don't want to get into a skins debate here). There could be many other things I could spectacle but im sure this isn't the place for that

Anyway, I'm going to say it now; it won't be a bird pack. Everybody expecting a bird pack, stop it. Don't let yourselves down again. 😅 Plus, think about how much more excited you'll be if you're not expecting it and then it is!
I've already been keeping my fingers crossed for the birds since that year :ROFLMAO:
I hope they will appear ❤️ but not necessarily in spring.

Something I've been thinking about. Either they are saving the baboon species for the Hamadryas baboon in a desert pack, or we are never getting one. Because otherwise this would have been the perfect pack for it.

Here's one issue though. A desert pack would almost certainly be an animals pack, but the grasslands pack just cannibalized it a bit. A good pack roster is a bit harder to do now. Caracal is now out. Emu is now out. Armadillo is out. Striped hyena is now out, and the brown hyena is pretty unlikely because of that too. Scimitar oryx is out. What would a 7 + 1 roster look like at this point?
This is exactly what I was trying to point out with my “DLC Likelihood” post from yesterday. Before yesterday, there was a number of people suggesting a Middle East DLC could be marketable at some point (understandably since the region is still lacking in representation), an Oceania Animal Pack, and a Desert / Drylands DLC. But because of how Frontier handled the Grassland Pack’s roster, the odds of any of these ever happening now are next to none. The only one that has any chance of happening at all is a Desert DLC that mostly selects species that stretch what it means to be desert-native.

A Middle East pack could’ve been strung together with a Dromedary Camel, Caracal, and Striped Hyena, and an additional oddball pick (Crested Porcupine, Hedgehog, Goat/Antelope species, etc.) Now, with Frontier’s animal choice history in mind, there is no way for a Middle East Pack to realistically happen. And the same can now be said for an Oceania and Wild West/American Southwest Pack.

Desert now would be a tight-pinch to do as well, though maybe slightly more possible than the others. It’d be hard to piece together a DLC where the only recognizable species for a general audience is a Camel (something PZ already has one similar species of), a Porcupine, and maybe a baboon.

The only other “commonly known names” for desert animals that aren’t already in PZ are a Jackrabbit, Roadrunner, Jackal, and Coyote. But the Jackrabbit and Roadrunner would require completely new sets of animations/interactions (and Frontier tends to avoid those unfortunately, plus the Roadrunner is a dirty word to Frontier. It’s a bird). And another wolf-like canid like the Jackal and Coyote feels too repetitive (Plus the Coyote would be our 5th North American canid, definitely overkill).

Below I have laid out common/popular DLC themes and their likelihoods now that we know the content of PZ’s 2022 Winter DLC. The listed themes are not a reflection of what I personally want, but instead simply ones that are commonly suggested/requested by community members. Additionally, their ranking of likelihood is based strictly upon the number of popular/highly-requested species that could fit within said theme.

Themes that aren’t happening:
  • Middle East Pack
  • Oceania Pack / Australia Animal Pack
  • Pampas / Cerrado Pack
  • Nocturnal Pack
Themes that now seem pretty unlikely:
  • Savannah Pack
  • Prairie Pack
  • Scrubland Pack
  • Drylands Pack
  • Wild West / American Southwest Pack
Themes that seem slightly unlikely:
  • Desert Pack

It's really not weird at all, they're contracted by Universal so they don't really get to decide their own deadlines. With Planet games they're free to choose their own.
Thats why I mean was mostly universal decision. So probably next dlc will be earlier than PZ spring dlc, if we get spring dlc! Fingers crossed

So I have been thinking about the Striped Hyena’s new mechanic - their back hair will raise when they will be stressed or fighting, I think this might be also implemented to the Maned Wolf, but more importantly, it also might be used for Crested/Cape Porcupine in the future… i know, most of us are expecting it to appear at some point, but this is a little bit of something that might (or might not ofc) point towards getting it soon.

I think we’ll eventually see the crested porcupine

I'm surprised how we actually have the dlc number 12, the game has evolved so much in this years, I'm so excited for the future 👀
Also, the next dlc probably will be a construction DLC and the conceptual art always is amazing and beautiful

I think more about animal pack, like two animal packs in the row (spring) and then I think two scenery packs (summer and autumn)
I just think they swapped the order around this year because they wanted to cash in on Halloween with the Twilight Pack scenery. Which would mean that next year we'd go back to normal (starting with an animal pack). That said, it's as much as a guess as anyone else might make, but it seems more logical to me.

I could see it going either way. I’m almost 50/50 on whether I expect an animal or scenery pack next. This could’ve been a one time flip specifically for the Twilight Pack to release around Halloween, but I could also see it being a lasting change up for whatever reason. I was a lot more confident about the latter before the Grasslands Pack was announced, because I assumed the plan would’ve been to allow for summer and winter themed animal packs and maybe a tropical and another temperate scenery pack for next spring and fall (assuming support lasts that long). But now that we’ve got what would normally be thought of as probably a summer DLC, but moreover anything BUT a winter DLC coming in winter, I have no idea. So 50/50.

I love looking back at these. It bugs me a lot that the SEA one is centered instead of left-aligned like every other one.

I hope the game would sell as well as now and we can double the amount of what’s already been released 🤩

One advantage of the flipping of the standard/animal pack is that with this new schedule we get more animals before a longer period for the next DLC, and then less animals when the waiting is shorter. Now we have to wait until April probably, so it's good that we got more animals. After that, the wait from April until June should be shorter, so getting a standard pack in spring is ok.
