Spring dlc Speculation 2023

It isn’t really. Here are potential habitat animals off the top of my head:
  1. Tasmanian Devil
  2. Sulawesi Bear Cuscus
  3. Brown Dorcopsis
  4. Goodfellow’s/Matchie’s Tree Kangaroo
  5. North Luzon Giant Cloud Rat
  6. Cuban Hutia
  7. Malagasy Giant Rat
  8. Coquerel’s Sifaka
  9. Aye-aye
  10. Sulawesi Crested Macaque
  11. Fossa
  12. Tanuki
  13. Japanese Serow
  14. Lowland Anoa
  15. North Island Brown Kiwi
  16. Maleo
  17. Palawan Peacock-pheasant
  18. Nene
  19. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
  20. Kagu
  21. Northern Rockhopper Penguin
  22. Cuban Crocodile
  23. Radiated Tortoise
  24. Crocodile Monitor
Some of these are quite obscure but Frontier is known for oddball picks, so who could say?

I’d rather an island endemics focused pack, but I don’t know which route Frontier would take and I’m fine with people speculating either way. Yes, Grasslands included animals found outside grasslands, but that’s a biome that overlaps with a lot of other biomes while islands are a self-contained landform, so it’s hard to say. I’d be alright with things like musk ox and American flamingos that have a large portion of their distribution on islands though (in an animal pack, I’d want a scenery pack to be all island endemics).
I love to be proved wrong (in this case. Not in others🤣) because it reminds me of so many animals I may or may not have heard of. I've never heard of the maleo. Time to Wikipedia

Nice list!

Except the tanuki whose range includes most of east asia, so not an island animal
Even if that was true (and it isn't) most packs are full of animals that are not exclusive to the theme of the pack... in many cases, they aren't even commonly attributed to the theme (see Grasslands pack and its "desert" animals.).

Whilst not necessarily endemic, all animals so far (assuming we’re treating Central America as part of South America, as frontier did in the pack) have either been primarily found in the relevant biome / region, or it is a very substantial (> ~40%) part of their range. An animal with 99% of its range on a continent that also happens to occur on some island somewhere shouldn’t be included in an island pack.

So, without going through and reading 54 pages of discussion, can someone fill be in if theres a consensus or a couple of top ideas for Spring DLC? Are we thinking islands pack, or...?

Most people are saying islands, drylands, Highlands, rainforest and children's zoo. Honestly won't be surprised if 4 of those are what we get for this whole year. But if we do go into 2024 for content the roster would be practically perfect.

I’d go with:

2023
Easter - Birds dlc with Secretary bird and birds in WE
Summer - Drylands animal pack with Porcupine
Autumn - Islands dlc with the Tassie
Winter - Tropical Woodlands animal pack with Sloth

2024
Easter - Safari dlc with Black rhino
Summer - Highlands animal pack with Wolverine

The tanuki or Japanese raccoon dog (Nyctereutes viverrinus) is now considered a separate species from the common raccoon dog (N. procyonoides), and so is endemic to Japan.
It feels like people want the tanuki because they like that name better than raccoon dog, even though the raccoon dog is the more logical choice of the two (but of course not in an Island Pack).
And then they are going to be madly disappointed with the Tanuki showing up under the name Japanese Racoon Dog, which is also often used in English.

My bet is for Rainforests / Tropical, 100%. Red river hogs, coatis, sloths, u know, what Wetlands and Grasslands have been, Most wanted animals and another good choices.
They could perfectly introduce 1 or 2 parrot species like with the bats or butterflies. This pack idea has so much potential to bring so much wanted species to the game 😙

I am surprised that barely anyone has brought up Sri Lanka when discussing about the island pack. Sri Lanka could offer sloth bear (I know they could also be found in the mainland but since Frontier loves their subspecies they may as well choose a subspecies found on an island), a tropical subspecies of leopard, toque macaque, and maybe even red slender loris and purple faced if we are allowed to strech it when speculating.

In my opinion, a perfect lineup for a Rainforests Animal Pack would be this:
1: Red River Hog: In the list of the most wanted animals / Pigs rig and African Representation
2: Sumatran Rhinoceros: Please, don't start the "non animal zoos" discussion again guys. Rhino rig and Asian Representation
3: Linnaeus Two-Toed Sloth: Headliner of the pack, Possibly the most wanted animal on this days / New and unique rig, South America Representation
4: Geoffroy's Spider Monkey: Howler monkeys are cool, but spider monkeys are awesome / Monkey similar rig, new tail-movment set, South America representation
5: South American Coati: Coatis are awesome, nothing more / New rig, South American Representation
6: Yellow-Backed Duiker: Very unique species, surprise of the pack / Deer rig, African Representation
7: Tomistoma: An interesant pick, the false gharial / Crocodile rig, Asian Representation

-Why not, introduction of flying birds to WE-
1: Blue and Golden Macaw
2: Scarlet Macaw
3: Toco Tucan
4: Rhinoceros Hornbill
5: African Grey Parrot

-Why 2 Macaws? 1 is not enugh, i think, and also the model is almost the same but with some touches
-Why not Oceanian Animals? I belive in the islands pack, so there can be a lot of Oceanian representations.
Other Oceanian animals that can be in this pack: Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo, Rainbow Lorikeet

I made this list basing on Planet zoo's past dlcs, with some very good works with new rigs (Armadillo, Capybara, Siamang, Raccoon) and other more cheap animals easier to do (Wild Water Buffalo, Amur Leopard, Blue Wildebeest, Caracal).

I hope you like my idea :)

It looks very convincing. Not detached from reality with a large amount of completely unique animals.

But if im going to nitpick something then it will be toco toucan.
Fun fact: Among all toucans its unique, because its not found in forests. It prefers semi-open habitats like cerrado or beni savanna and areas near rivers.

Challange: Name an Animal that somehow adds less to the game then another leopard.
Kodiak brown bear and ABC island bears also happen to be island subspecies therefore making them “fit” to be on the islands pack. Not to mention I could have mentioned Sri Lankan elephant when talking about SL.

If those are not less valuable than at least a leopard that lives in a tropical habitat unlike the Amur leopard, then I do not know what can.
