Principal or staff engineer. No way. Senior engineer, absolutely.

AskAGameDev has some fun write ups on how job tiers play out in game dev.

When they canvassed other devs they got these definitions for Engineers:

I’ve heard from a (good) manager that, junior is a - sign (you take productivity away from someone), mid is a + sign (you produce more than what you take away from others), and senior you’re a x sign (you make everyone around you more productive).

Junior: - Able to code in some fashion - Willing/able to learn - Work on well defined tasks with mentoring to provide guidance/knowledge
Mid-level: - Able to handle defined projects/tasks - Self-reliant, able to produce trusted results - Starts to get involved in design/architecture
Senior: - Experience in proper design/architecture to guide projects - Is a resource for other developers - Able to handle most difficult tasks (technology/logic/etc)

Programmer:
Junior: Mostly asks questions
Mid: Split between asking and answering questions
Senior: Mostly answers questions.

If that guy has gone from student to force multiplier in 3.5 years, it's pretty safe to say he's unusual.

(At least this guy took 6 years to hit Lead ;))

Not sure if parody or real but...

EDIT: LOL, she ended up not reading or approving any more comments because she was getting unhinged personal attacks for being critical of the trailer.

Even the approved comments are full of cultist speak.

"building 5 different studios, the talent and the tech from 0 dollars is a huge endeavour"

"It is the only game with more realistic physics simulations than any other game ever put together"

"It saddens me that people can be so negative. I'm praying for you and I hope you can find some joy in something."

Thoughts & prayers...

Love this excuse, since it wasn't us, it was CIG saying they could develop the best damn space sim ever in 2-3 years, from zero, with just 5.5 million dollars. It was also CIG saying both SQ42 and SC were almost ready back in 2014.

Back then there was none of this excuse, backers truly believed CIG could do it.

Has the post been deleted? Can't find it, wanted to check out the replies for a laugh :D

No idea, someone just posted the image to the refunds sub.

You've probably noted, that the sub needs to be very careful and can't directly link anymore due to the faithful mass reporting the refunds sub for brigading and stuff.

Correction: not zero. Chris Roberts claimed to already have a small company back in 2012. The Crytek lawsuit showed that was as much a lie as Robert’s Kickstarter sales pitch.

It was also CIG saying both SQ42 and SC were almost ready back in 2014.

Back in 2012, technically. The original sales pitch was for finishing content creation, not engine creation…

Or company creation...

Or mocapping famous Hollywood actors…

Or lining Chris Roberts pockets…

Back then there was none of this excuse, backers truly believed CIG could do it.

I know. I was one of them. Because back then, all I knew of Chris Roberts was he was the developer of Wing Commander, a game series I liked, and the director of the Wing Commander movie which I remembered as mostly fun, but had some… eye rolling elements.

Oh, how naive I was back then.
