Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes for the folder.

In caves you can climb where you see yellow on rocks. Sometimes you have to aim at the left or right border of the yellow zone as the center doesn't get the grip.
Thanks for this.

I struggled to get back up until I ran out of oxygen... I tried every which way possible! For some reason I couldn't get back up onto the ledge. I'll try to make a note of yellow on the rocks.
I'll have another go at it.
🤔

just to meet fiscal year end projections?

Sure, to meet expectations they put before the market. But not because they were compelled to by investors, per se. It’s mainly their call how they try and satisfy shareholder expectations of growth. (And also mainly their error in this case, it would seem ;))

It’s just doubly ironic that every arrow Ant is casting there strikes more heavily at CIG. Because they have precisely the type of angel investor who could meddle more directly with operational affairs. One that saved their bacon when they were running on fumes, and could easily have stipulated strict terms for investment…

So who decide if, for instance, a switch to dx12/vulkan for the Cobra engine is needed to be able to release ED on new console ? DB ? I've read that he only owns 32% of shares. It's enough to decide for the whole company ? So he is the only one to decide ? It's DB that have decided that the EDO alpha was in pretty good shape and can pass from alpha to gold without beta ay the risk to hurt the licence ? It's him that have decided to stop work on VR on foot midway ?

If you look at the games actively worked by FDEV, don't you see that ED is the only one to use heavy netcode ? And for what I see, it's the only one to use VR also. For what I know, ED was announced for a 10 years cycle, we are near the end. So, they will continue to improve it to a SC level while none of the FDEV other games need all the heavy improvements of Cobra needed for this task ? They work secretly on ED2 on the new Cobra2 engine ?

I would say more, but to keep with the topic of the thread:

So, they will continue to improve it to a SC level

Lol 😄

He is the CEO of a publicly traded company, and he (or the management board in general) decides on the operational matters. Shareholders can vote him out if they choose to, so he has to keep them happy to some extent, but at the same time they cannot directly involve themselves in everyday, or even some strategic decisions. His share is irrelevant here because a CEO does not need to be a shareholder - their powers are regulated by company bylaws and general legislation (in this case - in the UK).

When it comes to voting him out, his 32% shares give him a lot of power because others would have to form a coalition against him. Which may be difficult because it is dispersed:

And this is where it gets tricky. Yes, it was him, or the management board in general. But it does not mean that he can do whatever he wants and that he did it on the whim. The decision was probably made to balance the expectations of the investors and, more importantly, his legal duties. As a CEO, while he is autonomous, he has also fiduciary duty to the company. To the company, not the shareholders, as this is not the same. If he does not protect the long term financial interests of the company, he might be in trouble legally, so he may be practically unable to postpone a release of a game that is "good enough" to the next FY due to the risk to himself. Interestingly, if the shareholders decided to do something that would threaten the long term health of the company, his duty would be to resist, because, again, he is protecting the interests of the company, not of the shareholders. Now, one could argue that this release was not in the best interest of the company, but proving it before court would be tricky - the numbers are good and up until the next FY the game may be in a much better shape. We will see about the console launch. So far nobody has had any interest in going to court, I guess.

This actually happened to CDPR BTW - due to the botched launch of CP2077 they were sued in the US by a law firm specialising in these types of cases - representing a class of shareholders against management.

At CIG things are much simpler. All companies are private and major shareholders are also directors. They can do whatever the hell they want, including convoluted investment agreements and straight up pillaging of the companies, as long as everybody agrees. Plus, CIG have a network of entities in multiple jurisdictions, which gives them even more freedom to shift risk, tax obligations, shape transfer pricing etc.

And the best part of the deal? People who pay for the upkeep have basically no rights. They are not investors, they are not shareholders, they are dispersed and cannot be even bothered to try to attack the issue from the perspective of consumer rights, as a group.

BTW, Calders may hold around 15% of the shares but I bet my morning coffee that their actual power is disproportionally larger. A special class of shares, more voting rights, additional provisions etc. CIG was bankrupt before they came in, so their negotiating power was enourmous.

Thats a standard Windows thing. For Win 10:

Just remember that your pagefile should be considerate of your entire working set. Setting arbitrary values for it can lead to some very, very bad things indeed - that will give you entire fun-filled hours of delights ;)

You should try "eliminate nest" around PO. If you don't have them, try to do some missions around PO and they will pop sooner or later. They pay 30K from FPS shoot in cave.

I did! I had a lot of fun with this one. I did a stealth run with a sniper rifle (I want to say PR-6?) and the Coda pistol. I had a suppressor on both so it was pretty on brand for some cave sleuthing. (I also just watched The Descent so I was pretty gung ho about shooting some damn cave Morlocks).
I popped out my little pistol miner and had a go at that on the way out. Meh. Still got the server lag where I had to pick up a rock, wait, pick up a rock, etc.

Found my way to Grim Hex for the first time. This place is a treat! I love the aesthetic. Even noticed the sign that gave the place its name. They had a raider set of armor which I just couldn't resist. Well, I bought the big bull horn helmet but I don't think I'll use it. The rest of the outfit is pretty great, though. The barely soldered together "Why Not?" helmet was also a nice touch.

Also saying goodbye to this fella:

Fun ship to fly. Strong Eagle vibes (but kinda ridiculously strong in comparison).

This vid really makes me want to try SC again, made by an ED player. That flight model is looking quite nice now. And the planet tech doesn't look half bad at first glance.

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lXy9rEUBhc

I mean, the flight model has not significantly changed in years. not since 3.5. granted the atmo affecting the flight model is somewhat recent, but thats been quite a while as well. 3.14 may introduce some of the biggest flight model tuning changes the game has seen since 3.5. slowing it down more. we'll see what happens.

and totally agree with the video on the vector indicator. tried to go back to elite a few times, as recent as the release of odyssey.

the inability to yaw, no vector indicator, and no space brake make elite flight unenjoyable for me.

Yes, I've only done the free flies, the last time being a couple of years ago. I really should catch up a bit if they've improved this much. That vid shows a very definite "FA off"-ish flight model which was completely missing the last time I flew. Mass > 0 is a very good thing. :)

And yes I took note of the vector indicator too. Such a small thing but so important. And ofc it's just common sense - an absolute must for any vehicle with this degree of freedom.

FA Off is called Decoupled mode is SC. Its been there forever too. Although would not be hard to miss if you dont know where to set it/that it even exists.

FA Off in elite is fully assist off. Both lateral and rotational movements. In SC decoupled only affects lateral movements. Cannot turn off the assists for rotations (pitch, yaw and roll). Although I like it better that way. Its a preference thing though.

i wonder if one of the "food grip types" is holding an egg! in a lesser game you would not be surprised if the food grip tech for an egg and an apple were shared between the two food items.

not star citizen! unique food grips for eggs and apples!

If you think SC is good tell us why. There will be people who disagree with you but if you want to argue with them, do so with facts about your experience in SC. Please let's keep the thread on topic.
Sorry if that was me, i was genuinely wanting to know why SC is better than cough other games. Or what other games are alternatives to SC.

The general topics of bugs, not/scam, limited gameplay loops, MTX and costings have been gone over since i started looking into this thread, so thanks everyone.

The Katie videos are definitely interesting, when i clear my backlog i may take a dabble if a free fly doesnt happen before. If nothing else i can then advise friends and on the Playstation forum if they should jump to PC-Elite or straight to SC instead.

Hey, I just went to jail!

Turns out if you don't pay their silly "Stand still so I can scan you" fines, they throw you in the clink!

It was more fun than prison should be, I think. But I'll take it. Likely I'll be spending a decent amount of time there... so I just banked some merits and explored a bit.

The only way to bank merits is to never leave prison. if you leave any extra merits you have vaporize.
