Sticky Please - PS4 Known Issues Since 1.07

I see that the bug reports have lit up since the last update(s). The support wing has probably suffered heavy incoming fire - I guess they must also have a lot of data about the current issues.

More than happy to help - on my own time. In fact, rather than waiting for my copper connection to reluctantly upload clips to YouTube, it would be quicker to pop down the A10 with my PS4 and play show-and-tell.

[big grin]

Last night I was in the barnacle forest in the Hyades system. The mist effects were beautiful, but the textures on the barnacles looked awful, even the PS3 would do better. Lots of texture issues in general since last update. Also the left nav panel sometimes jams, it stops working and you need to save the game and restart to get it working again.

Reported a bunch already chap, mostly in tickets.

I'm surprised we didn't have more of an update regarding known (or acknowledged) issues before the weekend started. Maybe my expectations are too high - but then I've worked in IT support and training for 15 years, so I set the bar high to begin with.

For such an immersive gameplay experience, the illusion is very easily disturbed following 1.07 and I'm not happy. It feels like someone just cut the umbilical. Boo-hoo, Waaagh etc.

My point - if there is one - communicating with your customers is kinda important.

And of course, I'm blatantly asking for an invite to HQ...

I'll give you my list, which is growing by the day. The 2.4 release is downright embarrassing at this point.

* Textures replaced with very low, terrible-looking resolution textures. Textures often toggle back and forth between ugly and normal, which is even more jarring.

* Horrible flickering shadows - I feel like I'm in a boat (water reflections), not space.

* Planets made way "softer" / low-quality in orbital supercruise. They do look better from space, and about the same down on the ground, AFAICT

* NPCs flying erratically, which results in them ramming our ships and not completing their scans, thus "Scan Detected" announcement every two seconds.

* Way too many NPCs in instances with other players - it's like each player brings in their own dozen NPCs to the party.

* Sound crackles and pops while flying through the mailslot, which sometimes breaks sound until game is restarted.

* Transitioning from parked ship to SRV causes random height issues. Sometimes this results in ship hovering 100M above the ground (dropping SRV from height), or today it caused barnacles I visited to be floating 100M in the air after I got into SRV.

* Sometimes SRV turret will not deploy or vice-versa. I also once had the SRV turret pointing backwards.

* SLF voice lines are out of sync with actions (she says she's got control of mothership when she launches in fighter, and says fighter is now docked when I launch in SLF).

* Random blue screens of death (which I've never seen on a PS4 until ED).

* Link between store item previews and store purchases is broken.

Here are a few images of these things and others:

I think there will be a hotfix soon. But next time a beta for ps4 will be a good idea, just to filter out these stupid bugs before release.

With some CMDRs reporting no issues since the update, I'm wondering if something just bugged out between updates. I think an uninstall might be the way forward. Downloading the updates again over ancient copper infrastructure isn't ideal, but I'll give it a shot at the backside of the weekend. Anything is worth a try at the moment.

Let me know how that goes, because this is just some of the crap I'm dealing with, and it seems to be getting worse:

I'm flummoxed that others are reporting no problems at all. I mean, it's not like we're running on different hardware with different video cards and driver versions.. That said, supposedly there's a pretty big thread on Reddit about these issues, so it's not just you and I having these problems.

I'm probably going to stop playing for awhile until Frontier releases a proper hotfix, because I'm not really interested in Minecraft In Space. Thankfully I have other games on my PS4, and Obsidian Ant can keep me in the loop regarding the Thargoid war which I'll probably miss due to the terrible timing of these bugs (bugs, get it? haha).

Would've been nicer to witness first hand though, eh?

I'll update late today / tomorrow with the diagnostics.

Thanks SM I''d be interested to hear how you got on. I have set my game saves to save into the cloud, so I presume once I log into that everything will come back down ok?

I got cities skylines this weekend and played that most of yesterday; with a hangover I couldn't face a crashing ED.

I posted this in another thread, but in case you missed it, this short 1 minute video really shows off how bad the texture popping bug is. If this is not an officially known issue, it better well be one soon, as it's the one that has my eye wandering to other games (one is already ordered and in the mail).

Note that this video is straight from ED, no editing, just a slight movement of the camera to trigger the toggling.

While it may not be on the known issues list yet (I'll look into that), it's something we're aware of and are working on as a high priority.

Thanks Lloyd.

Stormy/Lab/Duck - I'm not home until later today sometime. I thought my console was online and planned to start the process with remote play, but alas...

Stay tuned.

I'm sure your team will appreciate any "data points" we can give them, so here are a couple:

* I always turn off (not standby) my PS4 at the end of a gaming session. When I play ED, it's the first and only application I launch on PS4.

* I can reliably reproduce this bug immediately after starting ED, so it doesn't feel like the typical memory leak that requires a certain amount of time before it triggers.

* The textures that get swapped seem somewhat random - sometimes my holo-me's face looks fine but the chair is low quality, other times the station's "ATC building" looks crappy but the pad looks fine, etc.

* I've encountered low textures on my ship even in the depths of space, where the geometry on the screen is fairly simple. It's a more rare occurrence than complex scenes like a station, but it does happen on occasion.

* I've noticed that the scratchy sound bug I encounter in stations seems to be tied to this bug, as in I only notice it when textures have gone low-quality. However, this may be coincidence.

* My PS4 drives a PC gaming monitor, so it's configured to output full RGB color. This may be irrelevant, but some people are not experiencing this bug (or at least not noticing it), so I'm trying to think of things that might differentiate my (and other bug-seers) PS4 from theirs. There's not too much one can do to 'customize' PS4 settings - we are all basically on the same hardware and OS. Oh, and my PS4 is the Slim, but Pro users also are seeing this problem.

* My PS4 has an SSD instead of the default HDD, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with these bugs (but hey, you never know).

If you're able to reproduce the bug in your own offices, then you probably don't need my help, but there it is just in case :D

I've experienced pretty much the same as Duck, except I'm using a standard PS4 PRO. The new skybox is beautiful. The rest is rubbish!

Plenty of examples here.

Staying very tuned, I am wanting to know if it fixes some issues and if your binds are all safe and sound, my worry is losing all my custom binds. :(

Duck, you state PS4, don't you use a PS4 Slim, vs a PS4 Pro vs the standard PS4. It may be a particular device issue. I use a PS4, and havn't experienced any of said issues when it comes to graphics. My main problem is the refresh rate. Which was slow prior to the new update and even slower since. I now get thank you from a station at or about the time I'm about to doce at a completely different station. And where as I used to get npc demands immediately after the minigame was already started, now I get them when it finished. Which make me believe it's the sever's and not my connection, as I use to think prior. Not to mention the bullet in board. Time has almost trippled utilizing it. Though if one doesn't use it as much as I, wouldn't notice much difference.

Hope they not only figure it out for ya, but actually do something positive about it. It's as you stated, we PS4's got a beta version instead of the actual updated version. I'd think that running a beta version on a pc which have modified various aspects of the game will give a false results. There should be a beta for each platform, and apprently we now have one. Fingers crossed they release the real version soon.
