Victories in Col 285 Sectors YT-F b12-1 and YT-F b12-6, Holvandalla, HIP 20492, Vucumatha (well done PDES!) and Arietis Sector GG-Y d67! M. Leigong loses a third attack, and it looks like Chernobo is amid delivery with around 4200 of 14000 sold.

While emptying M. Cocijo of inhabited targets earlier, something which alarmed me a bit was noticing that the Navigation panel had in it the permit-locked system HIP 39425. Checking the Galaxy map:

HIP 39425.jpg

HIP 39425 is a locked, empty system with, according to a search, no known means to access it. I am unsure whether being permit-locked keeps out the Thargoids, but I suspect not, and I imagine an attack there would leave a permanent Control system able to attack others. Were it not for Maelstroms being kept busy further in, I think M. Cocijo would be within a month of that occurring, and it is well that we are driving it back a bit!

Huray.

Congratulations to all at SNPX! That was a quite difficult system, and I became a bit worried when everything fell silent there for a while, but I am very glad that you were all quite well and that your venture succeeded.

Many measures of how well we are doing involve only the number of systems won or the total systems remaining, but with Gandje recaptured earlier and now your victory at Chernobo, I think you have helped this to become the strongest week we have had!

Victories in HIPs 20850 and 20019, and Muncheim! A surge at Kagutsuchi places it ripe for completion, and also leaves Poqomathi projected to complete with 24% to spare, minding as usual that it is Wednesday and has only this evening remaining.

For anybody in general, involved directly or otherwise, I have the same question now as I did around this time two weeks ago—which volumes of Thargoid space would you like to see trimmed a bit? For example:
  • Swift reduction at a larger Maelstrom?
  • Stronger recaptures at a smaller Maelstrom?
  • Protection of a specific system from attack?
  • Recapture of a specific system?
Over the last two weeks M. Taranis lost something like a ten-light-year shell of systems, and for the moment INIV has begun something similar at M. Cocijo, the present largest. The message at Omumba is also as clear as ever, noting that such is a very large operation which will need combined support to complete!

I was wondering - would it be worth it to clear Tougeir? Whilst the system is both inhabited and fairly close to the Maelstrom, it's both isolated from Oya and clearing it would cut off Oya's access to a fair region. Plus, there's definitely local support for it being cleared - it's got several chevrons and is the second top Control at the moment!

Will be interesting to see what happens with HIP 8825 coming out of recovery this week.
At the moment it still has AX CZs, including around the ports and the coriolis station (with them handing out no-fire zone violations). There are also still some abandoned ground settlements offering reactivation missions within the system.
The carrier admin facility is already active but obviously it's not yet possible to get a carrier into the system...

The glitched CZs never disappear, but they don't affect any other functionality of the system other than the fact that trying to dock with stations there gets you shot at by Thargoids.

So much for it being a "sanctuary" then.

I actually haven't seen an AX CZ around a coriolis since update 15 dropped due to the lack of invasions. Don't suppose they've fixed the interceptors going into orbit around the stations when someone using rotational correction goes inside?

Interesting idea! That idea is related closely to the disconnected regions in the Alert report, where for the most part we find their isolation to be a bit secondary to their appearance as an attacker, although I suppose it is only truly secondary if it gets cleared out the moment it does become an attacker. For example, with a disjoint row of systems which can only attack from either end, simply observing and stopping the upcoming attacks will erode each end over time anyway with no need to do anything specific just because the full row is disconnected.

If not—that is to say, it is both isolated and otherwise allowed to remain a regular attacker—that is indeed an ongoing burden for those repelling Alerts, with the very tenuous exception of an attacker which strikes empty systems in place of others attacking inhabited systems. In the case of Tougeir, indeed it looks like its long-term behaviour will be to alternate between striking Lahua and Muchihiks in a way which simply disappears if cleared!

Taking a look at all single disjoint systems which are that way, we have:

Chernobo disappears tomorrow of course, and Tougeir is indeed the next such case. Col 285 Sector VS-Z b14-3 is simple enough to clear, though for the moment would be only worth a diversion to clear if we are going to invest a lot at M. Hadad that week, and Hosan is in a similar situation at a larger scale. At risk of speaking for those who have been stopping M. Leigong attacks so well, all of the others will be cleared the moment they appear as attackers!

Small footnote - HIP 23593 should clear, and Hyades Sector EB-N b7-0 (14.38Ly from maelstrom, uninhabited) has had 4,166 samples delivered to attempt clearing it - Was seeing about blocking Awara. Warprogress prior to delivery was 0.029195, half the delivery was post-22:00 servertime so, should register properly in about half an hour's time. Will try to get the second warprogress reading after that point.

- Delivery complete, system checked at 23:19:49 servertime.
Warprogress for EB-N b7-0 post delivery, "WarProgress":1.028500. So, 0.029195 prior... would have been Tragically close if not for ad-hoc action/scout kills/etcetera adding up.

At just before the end of the cycle we had seventy-seven systems completed, including some of the strongest evictions seen thus far. For an idea of the scale involved, Gandje and Chernobo together are more than 31000 strength, exactly a hundred times the amount I prescribe for a single empty Control system further out.

For the first time, the Hyades Sector AV-O b6-5 Overachievement Award goes to an empty system HIP 21654 for a reported 394%!

All Alerts cleared.

Third consecutive week! With softened or cleared Maelstrom targets, and I presume between Operation Ida and PDES targeting the empty Alerts with a harvest while more conventional activity repels the inhabited Alerts over time, definitely the Thargoids get nothing.

Indeed Awara is guarded; well done! Your measurement becomes 4169, making that 4166 narrow indeed and looking quite plausible for a 10–15 Ly extrapolation:

It's all inhabited alerts, usually at the bottom of the list. The effect of our arrival frequently propels a poorly performing system up the board in a matter of hours as you noted at Kagusuchi.

Yes, Operation Kleenex will begin by sampling to clear the unpop alerts while evacs and deliveries will go where we feel they work best. I'd also like to have a go at another controlled, was thinking HIP 37844 but open to suggestion on that.

HIP 37844 is quite fine; looks like V has done the provisional week 34 targets, where recapturing HIP 37844 with 1517 strength definitely would ease guarding Desurinbin. Depending on how much time you have for it, Vocovii with 2362 strength would also help approach that goal; it is lower than Vucumatha was, although notably this week has 13 empty Alerts rather than 7, so you may want more time for those!

Either choice being the case, I think we can get Desurinbin guarded this week.

Don't mind having a go at both if we get time. 13 unpop Alerts is less work than doing all the unpops and then the more problematic populated ones for evacs. Don't know if there will be CG yet or how many people that will split time for, we'll play it by ear.

Got it! We will take Col 285 Sector KM-V d2-69 and the six empty systems there, one of which was SS-H b11-3 above, then check later what remains.

After liberating Chernobo SNPX will slow down activities as announced. We take a break in recapturing systems for a while and will wait for U16-changes, hope they bring us some less boring opportunities. After intensive harvesting operations in the last months and especially finished work in Chernobo our pilots (myself included) need some holiday from "sample dangerous"... but don't worry, we're still out there keeping a sharp eye on MS Oya.

Congratulations again—I was about to say that you have created now a much more prestigious Oya Island 2 which should be safe for months, or indefinitely as long as Oya Island 1 is kept clear, but it is more a case of having cleared so many systems that the former island is now a very well-isolated arm of mainland!
