The FFED3D Thread

...cause some of the olf ones sounded quite dated in my opinion, while some of the others were quite annoying (I hated the old Beam-Laser-FX ;) )

So, if you like, download: http://innociv.redio.de/FX.ZIP and put them into the FX-directory of FFE.

Have fun with it :)

Thanks for doing this; the sounds I've just tried out are a definite improvement on the originals. In fact, the old hyperspace sound irritated me so much I disabled it. Your new version is much better. Cheers! :)

Thank you :)

Oh, could someone post this link to the russian-FFE-Mod-site ? I can't register with a yahoo-mail adress there...unfortunately....

Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone

I have gotten the ok to host all files and downloads for FFED3D project. So if you have some mods or extras for the game do upload them so we can keep them in one place. I know its hard finding and sifting through all those posts to find what your looking for and I am to make it easier :)

Forum area: http://www.spacesimcentral.com/ffed3d-f53/
Download area: http://www.spacesimcentral.com/downloads.php?cat=37

I will be going through a lot of the posts on elite-games trying to compile the models and other files for FFED3D. But do feel free to upload your files or write some HOW TO docs to save me some time. It should take me a few days maybe a week or two to document and upload most if not all the mods. So bare with me.

Thanks

It would be really useful to compile the program and all the mods/models etc, with installation instructions, and up it as a torrent.

Thats great! Been hoping someone would do this for ages.

Cheers :D

Thanks TJ and Steve.

So fill up the forum area with info and files in the download area. Hope to have most done by the end of weekend. I haven't been through this entire thread yet but if there is any translated help or configuration posts please do post them for me or point me to them :)

Has anyone had any graphical issues with this? I'm running a PC with an nVidia Quadro card and the icons on the dashboard aren't shown. Is this an issue anybody has had to deal with? Also, can it be made full screen or does it just run in a window?

There seems to be an issue with FFE D3D where some resolutions cause the panel icons to disappear and other settings don't work at all.

Assuming it's not graphics card or display related the best thing to do is experiment with various resolutions until you find one that works. I know that 1280 x 1024 does, because that's what I run the game at. I've heard that there are higher settings which work as well but I don't know what they are.

Good luck :)

Hi RG see above.

Further to T.j's post, I believe the issue with icons disappearing will be fixed in the next release, so that the game can run at any resolution you desire.

With regard to running the game fullscreen, just make sure fullscreen=1 in the ffewin.cfg file.

Thanks TJ and Steve. I got it running up fine....now it crashes every time I try and save it. Which is strange, but I shall endeavour to try and get it working.

(now if only Frontier would bring it out on XBox Live (they don't even need to improve the original graphics - apart from making Earth, Earth.))

Never had that happen. Make sure you've got CmmdrPath=C:\firstenc\COMMANDR or something similar in ffewin.cfg and that the folder you're saving to actually exists.

I did have the path set as COMMANDR but I was running the .exe file from within the 'My Douments' folder. I've moved it to the main C: dir and it now works great. Thanks for your help getting this sorted for me.

Erk - this is more serious - I cannot reverse thrust in any version of JJFFE either. Are there any vista compatability issues for JJFFE/D3D?

Or am I just being dense and pressing the wrong button?

My laptop is less than five months old, and the keys are in full working order. Can anyone give me a clue. Without reverse thrust anything that doesn't need the autopilot is going to be nearly impossible.

I have exactly the same problem on an HP Pavilion running Vista 32-bit. I think it's something specific to Pavilions because I have no problems with jjffe/ffed3d on any other computers.

The only way I've found so far of playing the game on my HP Pavilion is to run it inside a Windows 2000 virtual machine (Sun xVM VirualBox), which quite frankly is utterly ridiculous.

The JJFFE Thread

I'm having a go at Frontier:First Encounters, the JJFFE version. Anyone know how to run it full-screen? I read somewhere that F12 should do it, but that doesn't work, at least on my computer... none of the F keys work.
