The FFED3D Thread

Funnily enough, I think the practice I've had flying an indestructable ship against hundreds and hundreds of foes has helped, because I've switched to an Asp, 5 shields, 1MW Beam, (I can't handle a Pulse), and am managing 1-on-1 clashes a lot better now. :)

EDIT: That is until I come up against an Imperial Courier!! :(

Good to hear that.

The key to surviving encounters with IC/IEs is using their sluggishness against them.

few bug reports:

Hello I did not manage to register on the russian forum yet because of some strange error messagers which I did not understand even after translation :-] So I write here if somebody has the same problems as me or possibly have some advice for me.

I played FFED3D in vista and with last patch it finally works at all, but the problem is the mouse - it does not click where I point, it clicks higher (about the height of the button in the menu) so it is very difficult to select tiny objects or navigate via menus. It does not do this in XP (but on different computer...)
Also number buttons do not change the stardreamer settings as they should and I have to click on the console. Thanks for replying

I had this problem too. Follow the instructions in this post and all should be well :)

Yeah, once I get on their tail I can pretty much keep the Beam targetted, but always in a skirmish I take a few blasts, and a single touch from one of them is usually enough to end me. I almost give up there and then when I see a white or light-blue beam raking across my viewport!!

Quite a good game the other night taking a passenger to Phiagre, but not realising I had 225AU to go once I got into the system! Lot of battles, sometimes with 3 or 4 opponents, mostly I came out victorious. Got to the station with 7% of my hull left, no Auto-Pilot!, and just hours from docking my passenger said, "Oi, where are we, I've been waiting a month, take me to the nearest port immediately!!". (I'd done a couple of Imperial Missions on my way to Phiagre.)

Shame there's not an option to dump your Passenger Cabins into space, because I would have. Didn't they realise it was a difficult journey I'd just made!!?

Yeah, there is a maximum time of one month before your passengers start to complain, although I don't think this is made clear when you agree to take them

I always check the map of the destination system before I agree a contract, to make sure I'm not going to one of those quintuple systems where the nearest port is hundreds of AU's away.

Yes, those systems are so impractical that they are usually just ignored.

It would have been nice for those complex systems to have been given the option on hyperspace of which sector of the system to hyperspace to the vicinity of.

and what about the keys to change stardreamer speed? And also print screen button does not work, but I guess it is normal in this version right?

I never use the keys to change Stardreamer speed, but after loading up FFED3D it would seem it mirrors the system used in JJFFE ie. Shift+(F1-F5) or 6-0

Right. Personally I use fraps to capture the screen, but other programs are available :)

Hyperdrive add-on giving you the ability to select any stellar-mass within the system as reference point (then exit the hyperspace within usual 10AU radius around it) would be good.

yes thanks will try those keys. I will probably use hypersnap to take screenshots :) I have more questions - this time about reading news - there is 11issues remaining but how can I read anything else then the first topic? In the beggining of the game there are only articles about that race to Alioth system and nothing more (or is there a key to skip it somehow?). Anyway this race is still actuall no matter when I will want to try it? There is something about 1st january which confuses me... in the beginning I have no chance, it took me 18days to get to that system so I guess this could be profittable with better hyperdrive...

Also I have problem with side thrusters. Manual mentions that numpad keys should do something but nothing happens. Is it only in some ships? is there a way to roll the ship? I guess not...

You're welcome.

BTW, [ & ] roll the ship

Edit: Gah, not the newspapers thing again! You have a subscription to the next 11 issues. In February 3250 the next issue will be available.

It's perfectly doable with the starting ship - you can get to Alioth in two jumps and it's your performance in Alioth system that matters the most. Of course, you won't accomplish that on autopilot - retros are much weaker than main thruster plus the autopilot sacrifices speed for flexibility by gradually decreasing forward thrust, then gradually increasing retros, rather than giving full burn all the way - this gives it a lot of room for corrections when they are necessitated by, for example, gravitational influences and orbital movement of bodies in the system.

There was also a CLASSIFID Mission I took one time, which was to destroy a satellite and photograph a base, and that was around one of the outer Gas Giants in a system, some 180AU from my hyperspace exit point. I just quit and reloaded and didn't bother with it.

Hello, so advisers are gone? :) I need more help please - how can I see myself in the orbital map? It is always centered on the star and I have no idea where my ship is :-\
Once I saw something red and it was 130AU far! I clicked on it but there is no way to see what it is besides flying to it right? Selected object shows on map? I am not sure now because I was under constant attack by someone :-\
