Then Kirk you are not.
Never claimed to be, either
Then Kirk you are not.
The only company I want in my space ship is my odour.
I've been doing "parallax discovery", and flying off to promising looking dots in the distance, which is hugely satisfying to me
Even better is that the auto-discovery part of the FSS means that I am able to zip through even complex sub-systems at about 10c and have all the objects resolved, which is absolutely fantastic [haha] Of course, if I see something I like the look of on the way through, I can stop and sight-see or bombard the planets with ordnance, I mean use probes to discover geologics etc.
It breaks up the monotony of having to use the FSS for it's original purpose very nicely. I'm not entirely sure this was the original purpose of the design, but I am having fun with it, which is a good thing![]()
Well, since this thread is 72 pages long and near the top, I will go ahead and add that I did not read said 72 pages but I like the FSS just fine. Added in case someone, somewhere, is keeping book.
Duke of Iron Hand has been recorded to like the FSS. Additional: Just fine.Well, since this thread is 72 pages long and near the top, I will go ahead and add that I did not read said 72 pages but I like the FSS just fine. Added in case someone, somewhere, is keeping book.
The FSS is nothing but a massively enhanced view of your surroundings with the proper tools for exploration.
The way people experience immersion is subjhective by definition. You can't tell anyone it is wrong when they claim it destroys their immersion. This impression is wrong and just subjective at best as you can easily prove yourself: You can immediately start the scanning process once your FSD is *set* to zero. At this point you are still moving, something you can clearly see in the FSS screen if you carefully watch the background. The FSS is nothing but a massively enhanced view of your surroundings with the proper tools for exploration. I think all those who start scanning while still scooping know this by now.
This gives a nice overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXXe7422OYE (official FDev "pilots training" video).
As others already mentioned:
You need a bit of keybindings.
Then you need to be in super cruise with throttle at 0%.
Press the button to activate the FSS.
Press the button to make the initial honk - energy pulse to establish the orbital plane and find all the things in the system. Those found things will be shown as "blue blobs".
Now you adjust the frequency spectral thingy at the bottom to the desired setting and look around for blue blobs. If the frequency set below matches the object, then the blue blob will have a white solid circle - otherwise it's a white dotted circle. It might require a bit of aiming, but not that much.
Now press the zoom button. If the blue blob is an USS or a planet/moon you will have now scanned it and got all information the FSS will give you.
If it is a planet-moon system, then you will get presented more blue blobs on their orbit around the main blue blob. Adjust the frequency accordingly and zoom in on every blue blob.
The FSS will show you where frequencies are - so just select on and then move around and zoom in on white solid circle blue blobs until that frequency is marked as resolved (no wave pattern anymore). Go on to the next frequency wave pattern.
Just give me back the game I enjoyed please, this is worse than garbage.
You can still refuse it, a much as you could if it were paid for.You know why this mess was free dont you? Cause loads of us would have simply refused it given the choice.
Both of you are extremists! Reasonable people can agree this is better than garbage, but worst than Jesus. No, keep it like it is, it is better than Jesus!

Exactly, we couldnt control the ship previously in some screens, I can't get my head around why this one ruins peoples immersion. It destroys the immersion of flying a spacship from the first person perspective or it destroys the immersion of flying a space ship with useful technology like a virtual surround screen?
I see it as a kind of mix between the cockpit perspective and system map, you can't control your ship while in the system or galaxy map either. The transition between FSS and normal cockpit is even more seamless than switching to the system map (with a short loading screen in between).
The speed limit is annoying but necessary in my opinion, it would be more annoying if you have to try to catch moving signals.

Ok, back to semantics then: This subjective impression is based on a false or limited perception. How's that Mr. professor?![]()
Yes. Because season 3 had so little in it and was way late. You know why this mess was free dont you?
