The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Go easy on me, it's my first GMP submission...:LOL:

Name:The Gludgooe Campfires
Game map search ref:Gludgooe PY-Z d13-2
Description:On the route between the Bubble and the Outer Arm, the Gludgooe Campfires can be found on a ringed, landable & terraformable HMC that nestles within a group containing two gas giants & a Class Y dwarf star. The views on arrival in orbit give a hint to the planet's potential as a sightseeing location, but it's when you land at one of the volcanic hotspots on the surface (the iron magma lava spouts at GeoSite #2 are recommended) that the location's value as a rest-stop becomes clear, with the site giving stunning views of the nearest gas giant. A sight sure to cause even the most jaded traveller to stop and stare. And as an added bonus, Planet 3 in the system is an elusive Pink Gas Giant, for added sightseeing opportunities.

As for the Pink Giant: my record-keeping for screenshots is dodgy. On the basis that I don't see them very often this is probably it, but not going to give a cast-iron guarantee to that...

Submission Criteria Update

We currently have 10 different POI from the OGLE catalogue. Every one of these POI is some variant of "this system has an extra-solar planet detected in the early 21st century". No new OGLE systems will be accepted unless they are highly exceptional, and will need good photos and very high-quality description of why it is special. Thank you!

Hmmm, what about creating separate "real-life systems\catalog systems" criteria on EDSM and just dump all such systems there? If every single one is too much for EDSM to handle maybe it would be reasonable to add only ones that are in deep space like 5-10k ly from the bubble (excluding the ones in nebulas and some outstanding ones like Sag A which should be usual POIs).

Yes, I've read the criteria - no more Jumponium systems. But how about a green system with a binary pair, landable, Crystal Shard POIs, one with Polonium, the other with Yttrium, in the NW corner of the Galaxy, well suited to refueling of FSD boosts before crossing The Abyss?

Name: Pitstop
Reference: Prai Gruia QT-Q e5-6 https://www.edsm.net/en/system/id/44899172/name/Prai+Gruia+QT-Q+e5-6
Description: An otherwise unremarkable system around a B star in the north-western corner of the Galaxy. Its appeal for explorers lies in the fact that one binary pair of moons around a gas giant is featuring multiple Crystal Shard growths. On the BC6 A moon, these yield copious amounts of Polonium. The BC6 B moon holds only one Crystal Shard site, which nevertheless will suffice to completely fill the explorer's desire for Yttrium. After filling up with these prime FSD boost materials, the way is clear to and across The Abyss towards Beagle Point.

I'm a little fuzzy on PN submissions. I've seen that they aren't accepted and that they may be if they're exceptional, and that they may be if they're not in the core. If they aren't accepted here, but one isn't listed on EDSM, where could we submit one so it can at least show on EDSM? I obviously ask because I just came across one that isn't on EDSM. I don't suppose black hole centers make it exceptional? Is Brairuia TD-B E1018 too close to the core for submission? Is that too many questions?

EDSM takes the entries from the GMP, so if the team doesn't accept it (I think this one's a borderline case), it won't get an entry added to it. You can submit any planetary nebula to the Catalogue of Galactic Nebulae (disclaimer: that was self-advertising), all of them get added there. I'll add yours after I check it in-game, just thought I'd let you know about this in case you find some more in the future.

Oh, and while it won't show up on the EDSM map if it doesn't get added to the GMP, it'll still show up on EDAstro and its nebula maps: here and here.

Because of the large number of PN, particularly near the galactic center, we only accept them as POI if they are exceptional. 'Exceptional' does not have a fixed definition, but would include something that would be very unusual or noteworthy. A few examples I can think of: 3 or more earth-like worlds; 5 or more water worlds; record-setting body (most/least massive, or size, etc.).

Returned to Active from Archived:

* The Brain Forest - as the only known area currently with Void Hearts. Thanks to Orvidius for photo.

Retired POI (Moved to 'Archived'):

* Planctae (The Wandering Rock) - Praea Euq QD-C b54-0: This body is at 8 ls from the main star. Numerous examples of bodies < 8 ls can be found, making this not particularly unique or special.

* Zatarra - Thailoae ZC-Y b44-0: There are at least 262 known systems with an ELW/AW/WW combo (data from edastro.com), failing notability criteria. Also, no picture.

* Hypuae Audst Kilo Golf - Hypuae Audst KG-Y e4351: Galactic core PN without a unique name, photo, or notability.

* Hypio Orb Nebula - Hypio Pri JH-U e3-6719: Galactic core PN without a unique name, photo, or notability.

* Eorld Planetary Nebula - Eorld Pri CQ-Y e4602: Galactic core PN without a unique name, photo, or notability.

* Endan: Eor Aub CQ-P e5-2148: Galactic core PN without a unique description, photo, or notability.

* Eok Bluae Stellar Remnant - Eok Bluae OM-W e1-7494: Galactic core PN without a unique name, photo, or notability.

* Kyloall Subway Alpha - Kyloall FB-O e6-5815: Galactic core PN without a unique name, photo, or notability.

* Oephaich nebula cluster - Oephaich PO-Q e5-4289: Cluster of galactic core PN without notability, no photos.

* Equals Redeemer Nebula - Eor Chruia ZK-P e5-4695: Galactic core PN without a unique description, photo, or notability.

* Eoch Flyuae Supernova Remnant - Eoch Flyuae WU-O e6-9895: Galactic core PN without a unique name, photo, or notability.

Does someone want to submit an entry for the Golconda? We don't seem to have one yet.
I'm not sure if an entry for it would be needed. It wasn't a mystery, and unlike the other generation ships, it was in an inhabited system. Plus it featured prominently in GalNet, so players can look it up in the archives there.

Thanks for the photos. We are currently missing a photo for the Eskimo Nebula - GCRV 4981. As this is close to the Bubble, it should be easy for someone to get pictures. Any takers?
