Any suggestions for names for these planetary nebulae?

For the first one and because of the pinky colours, I would call it "La vie en rose", as a special reference to Edith Piaf and to my country :)

For the second one... I have actually no idea :/ Maybe the "Five rings nebula" as a reference to the five rings which circle the gas giants/stars in the system ?

+1 rep for Edith Piaf reference :)

I was passing near the Starfish Nebula (PHROEA GREE AA-A H34) and got a set of pictures of it, including some from a lovely world that really shows it to it's advantage:

By chance, I came across a beautiful open cluster in the area, too. It's not easy to see from the map unless you filter out everything but B-class stars, but if you do that it's pretty clear. I'm calling it the Spindrift Cluster, because they look like a big gust of spray coming up from the waves of the galaxy:

It takes up pretty much the whole field of view from this angle. I'll try to find some good vantage points of it moving away. The search reference is PHROEA GREE PT-Q E5, and it extends from ~-6,800 : -185 : 37,100 to -6,800 : -28 : 37,100.

Great find! I love the intense deep red color on some of those images.

Congrats!

Star One has now been added to the mapping project as a historical location :)

Its awaiting triateration, so once enough distances for it have been entered into the EDSM database it'll appear on the map.

For a bonus point, name the episode of Blake's 7 that the poem in my signature is from ;)

Fantastic, thanks for putting it on the map!! Looks great.

I have saved the route in Excel (at least for the last couple of thousand LY or so), would it count as a historic route? In any case, if anyone wants to survey those beyond-the-rim systems, I can provide the systems names along the route to take.

I'll add it as a travel route but unless all the systems along it get enough distance data entered, it may not appear on the map for a while, as that's a very remote region that not many will venture to.

Post the route here :)

This is my first submission, and is on behalf of the Chapterhouse of Inquistion group.

We have discovered three ELW systems which we hope could eventually become settled way-points between the Bubble and Colonia, aiding future settlement and long range freight. (We have submitted a CG to FD to this end which we hope is accepted):

Rohini: NYEAJAAE FO T C6 9, Planet AB 1, approx 7700LY from Sol.

This Earth-like world was discovered by the Chapterhouse of Inquisition's Long Range Aid Convoy mission to Jaques Station in August 3302. It has been earmarked for future investigation by the group's xenobiologists, and if settled could one day act as a way-point base facilitating transit to and from the Colonia Nebula. Rohini in Hindu mythology is one of the children of the goddess Kamadhenu (the Empire system of Kamadhenu is home to the Chapterhouse of Inquisition).

***

Gandharvi: STUELOU LT F D12 1754, Planet BC 2, approx 15,650LY from Sol.

Another Earth-like world discovered during the Chapterhouse's August 3302 Repair mission to Jaques. The group hopes that this world and system could one day play host to a stepping stone base towards Colonia, as well as a staging ground for wider imperial exploration efforts of this region of the Scutum-Crux Arm. Gandharvi is another of the children of Kamadhenu in Hindu mythology.

Kashyapa: EOCH FLYUAE HA W B32 41, Planet 1, approx 19,500LY from Sol, or 2,500LY from EOL PROU RS T D3 94 (the current location of Jaques Station).

A spectacular Ringed Earth-like world with exactly 1G. When this spectacle was discovered by the Chapterhouse Mission to Jaques and news broke back on Kamadhenu a local sect of sadhus interpreted this as fulfillment of a prophecy; They saw the ringed ELW as "Kashyapa" - the legendary consort of Mother Kamadhenu, a fabled paradise - and are now fixated on one day establishing a religious retreat in this system. In parallel to this the Chapterhouse themselves hope this place will one day act as a gateway to the new frontier of the Colonia Nebula for settlers and freight.

Hello fellow explorers!

I'm here to present a system for the mapping project, which may coincidentally also be a record setter for the current Maximum height achieved above the galactic plane.
It's located 2,854 ly straight up from Sagittarius A*, amidst a very sparse field of T-tauri class stars. The entire system itself is all T-tauri, with two planets and a LOT of asteroids. On the whole, it's fairly bland, and quite difficult to get to without a modified ship.

The system was discovered after seven consecutive max range jumps in my engineer modified Anaconda - Lucky Venture, which has a standard jump range of 53.53 ly.
I very nearly died out here, the nearest scoopable star was 147 ly down below me, and the next closest star above my location was 160+ ly distant.
I made to safely back to the closest F-class star with my main tank drained on dropout.

In the tradition of honoring the ship that brought me here, I would like to humbly request that this system be named Venture's Reach, as a navigational landmark to any explorers brave enough to see the view from the peak of our Galaxy's Rooftop.

Ventures_Reach_System_2.jpg
Galaxy_Record_Height.jpg

This third image shows (to my best knowledge) the previous record for maximum height achieved above the Galactic plane at 2,849 ly.

I'll tell you what though... the view from up here is worth the risk!
