The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Edelgard: a five sentence text is a good guidline for a map entry. If you can boil it down to that (or shorter) we can append it to the existing map entry for the sector. (And still link to the full report)

I'd like more info on the ring size, if possible?

Thanks for the feedback, here is a shortened version of the report on the NGC 2286 Sector borders
.
Map ref: Phaa Aed FL-Y c6
In August 3303, the Aronnax Expedition surveyed the borders of NGC 2286 Sector, looking for signs of spacefaring activity as well as outdoor worlds and 'green' systems with all the materials needed for FSD boosting. A suitable location for a 'Forward Base' was scouted just over 200 LY from the border: Phaa Aed FL-Y c6 which is home to an Earth-like World and has several 'green' systems nearby. On the border itself another Earth-like World was found in a green system, Phroea Hype RA-A c3-8, along with numerous other systems of interest, including four containing an Ammonia World, six more 'green' systems, a system with four water worlds and one with four co-orbiting high-metal content worlds that are all candidates for terraforming. The detailed report on this region can be found in the expedition journal here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...x-Expedition?p=5826657&viewfull=1#post5826657

New POI

Name: NGC 6153
POI type: Planetary Nebula
Galmap ref: CD-39 10464

Desc: Discovered by British astronomer Ralph Copeland on May 27, 1883, this planetary nebula has a gas cloud with unusually high concentrations of nitrogen, neon, argon, oxygen, carbon and chlorine that suggests that it began to form as its main Wolf-Rayet star was transitioning from burning carbon as its primary fuel source to a neon-burning process. The system also contains a ringed high metal content world with an atmosphere of extremely hot and dense silicate vapor and a ringed metal-rich body with a highly volcanic surface.

New POI

Name: NGC 6337
POI type: Planetary Nebula
Galmap ref: Hen 2-215

Desc: Although originally discovered by John Hershel in June 1834, this diffuse planetary nebula did not achieve popular interest until more powerful observation technology in the 20th Century were able to discern its distinctive ring shape. Fascinated by its structure, astronomers in that era frequently referred to NGC 6337 as "the Cheerio Nebula" in honor of what archivists believe was a ring-shaped breakfast food that was popular in North America. The nebula is a binary system with a Wolf-Rayet main star that it is orbited by five ringed, helium rich gas giants and a Class A star that is orbited by another ringed helium giant and two Class Y dwarfs.

Name: Manifest Destiny
POI Type: Beacon
Galmap Reference: Cyuefoo LC-D d12-0

Description: Named after the driving mentality behind Western expansion in 19th century North America, Manifest Destiny Beacon is the furthest reachable system bordering the Western meridian line from Sol. Should FSD technology ever allow it, Manifest Destiny Beacon may one day live up to its name as a launch point to the Andromeda Galaxy. Due to its location on the fringes of the Milky Way a ship with a high jump range is required to traverse the sparse stars; additionally the final jump to this system requires a jump of 106.2ly making it extremely difficult to reach.

CSI+16-20178

A Planetary Nebula containing a central star and three orbiting bodies. 9,606 million years old, a Wolf-Rayet star with a solar mass of 0.6875 is in the central star. In closest orbit is the first of two high metal content (HMC) worlds in median orbit. They both exhibit active volcanism and are 4.999 and 6.0105 earth masses respectively. Respective orbit periods are 2,798.5 and 6,431.5 days. The final planet is a Class III gas giant consisting of 74.3% Hydrogen and 25.7% Helium and has an earth masses of 941.0334. Its orbital period is 34,961.8 days. The central star and lowest orbit HMC were originally discovered by CMDR MARX, while the higher orbit HMC and gas giant were originally discovered by CMDR JDUDE1.

PERSONAL LOG: This place reminds me of Colonia...and makes this CMDR long for home. o7

Bovomit border summary, from the Aronnax Expedition
Map ref: Phae Phlai XE-H c10-3

In early September 3303, the Aronnax Expedition surveyed the borders of Bovomit, looking for signs of spacefaring activity as well as outdoor worlds and 'green' systems with all the materials needed for FSD boosting. A suitable location for a 'Forward Base' was discovered just over 750 LY from the border: Phae Phlai XE-H c10-3, which is home to an Earth-like World and has several 'green' systems nearby, most notably Phae Phlai XJ-R d4-35 which has numerous volcanic moons. Two more Earth-like Worlds were found closer to the border, along with three Ammonia Worlds, six more 'green' systems and several worlds with unusual characteristics, in particular Syroidoa JL-G b30-1 14, an ice world with an orbital period greater than 2.6 million days. Whilst collating all of my ELW discoveries just now, I found this unusual system which I discovered soon after the commencement of the Distant Worlds Expedition (which I didn't participate in), whilst flying the Asp Explorer RV Abeona. The system is situated on the direct route between Sol and Beagle Point, at the far end of the Far 3kpc Arm, slightly below the Galactic plane. about 2,600L-y short of the 'Thargoid Wall' in the Perseus Stem.

This neutron star system has six planets, all of them terrestrial. It is unusual in that the third and fourth planets are both Earth-like worlds orbiting each other. I am not aware of any documented example of any similar system configuration, although I doubt it is unique...?

Since my ship the Abeona is named after the Roman goddess of journeys, I shall name the first ELW (Hypio Bluae CC-C d13-1931 3) Abeona, and the second ELW (Hypio Bluae CC-C d13-1931 4) Adeona, after Abeona's counterpart the Roman goddess of homecomings. At 33,399.40L-y from Sol, the system is about half way to Beagle Point from the Bubble, and would make a fine landmark stop-over during either the outbound or return leg of any journey between the Bubble and Beagle Point.

Fixed. I was unable to find an original reference for the Tailfire entry, so the name/location for 'Morphenniel Nebula' was kept; the description from Tailfire was merged into the Morphenniel Nebula entry. Thank you for reporting this!

New POI/Possible Tourism Candidate
Name: Anulus Extimus
Galmap Ref: Iwaitt EB-W D2-3587
Description: Discovered by CMDR Pinda Gupta in 3303, this astonishing system bears an equally astonishing ringed Earth-like world, which itself carries the Latin name for "ringed extremes." Orbiting a Neutron Star at a distance of 2,612LS, this sensational planet provides remarkable views of both its metal-rich rings and the galactic core. On the surface, however, things are far less pleasant; an extreme pressure of 4.19 atmospheres means noticeable discomfort for anyone who dares step on the surface of this alien world. Nevertheless, this planet manages to make itself even less livable, sporting an atmosphere with just 5.4% oxygen; this would cause extreme respiratory strain to even the toughest pioneer. Overall, although habitable, Anulus Extimus lies at the extremes in every sense.

A ringed Earth-like world is not all this system has to offer; the first planet in the system bears two rings, one metallic and the other rocky. Since it is terraformable, perhaps it can be made to provide a safer haven than its extreme -- and deadly -- counterpart.

Hello,

i have the great honor to register a Point of Interest (POI)
At 21. December 2016 i hit the system 'M7 Sector IF-S b19-4' when i was on my ~40,000 Ly tour to complete 'Elite' status in 'Exploring'
The system in EDSM:
https://www.edsm.net/en/system/bodies/id/8077389/name/M7+Sector+IF-S+b19-4

I haven't been ingame since around January, but lately i got the feeling to come back to the game and started again to look into the forums, German EDDE and this forum. Can you imagine how surprised i have been, seeing the just 3 days old PM?
Cmdr Corbin Moran wrote this PM to me, because he figured out that EDSM (i forwarded my travel to them :D ), this is a system with 4 Ammonia worlds, which is supposed to be a record (I didn't know this [woah] ) and that i should register it here as a POI.
Despite the long time since, i remembered that system, because it was one of the systems i really was sitting and having a 'Yeeees'.
And i also found the screenie of it [smile]
Cmdr Corbin Moran advised me how to post it here - so let's go:

Suggestion for a name for the system
I didn't find a system which is named after the great German explorer and scientist 'Alexander von Humboldt' who definetly was one of the greatest of all times.
I would like to name the system for him - 'Humboldts Ground'

In my Opinion he deserves a very popular system right in the middle of the bubble.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_von_Humboldt

In-game system name
'M7 Sector IF-S b19-4'

Short description of the system
See anything on the sceenshot

Screenshots from the system - preferably some nice artistic glamour shots
