The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Name: Leviathan's Lair
Game map search ref: SLENGUIA LC-V E2-4
Description: A single system nebula that houses a black hole, and a Class A star. The black hole is a mere 2.8 masses. Since the nebula consists of only one system, space is masked by a Leviathan green tint - with two blue tails opposite to one another.

I visited the "Collection of Wonders" yesterday and found it disappointingly immersion-breaking. The 3 stars in this system only cast light on space craft, but not on any other object. Therefore, the rings (and the objects in them) are not illuminated, and neither are the landable planets. Landing on a planet that is in complete darkness despite being incredibly close to a Class M star just doesn't look right at all.

Someone on Discord explained to me that this is because all lighting in a system is based solely on the primary stellar object, which in this system is a black hole. This is also why whenever you find a planet right between two stars, it's still only lit from one side.

If there's one feature I'd like to see implemented in Elite Dangerous above any other, it's that every star should cast its own light.

"Ringworld" changed to "Huygens' Ringworld" on request of submitter.

Updated "Garmany's Treasure" to reflect that it is no longer the record holder for O-type stars (which seems to be Hypiae Ausms AA-A h321).

Proposed POI name: Unitatis
POI type: Nebula
Location: EOCH FLYA YQ-U D3-107
Description: A medium-sized red/orange diffuse nebula, Unitatis is eighteen-and-a-half thousand light years from Sol (and 1800 light years below the Galactic Plane) in the Inner Scutum-Centaurus Region of the Galaxy. This nebula contains many white dwarf and neutron stars, so caution is advised when surveying. The nebula is named in the ancient Earth language of Latin - Unitatis means "unity", and this nebula was named in salute to the Distant Worlds 2 Expedition, which brought unprecedented numbers of pilots from all backgrounds together.

POI type: Planetary features
POI Name: Twilight paradise
GalMap Ref: Blua Hypa DH-j d10-2582
Description: Earth-like world situated on far orbit of the neutron star. Lying in eternal nightfall after the death of the main star, it brings me to mind how fragile our Earth is.

POI: Mystery Poi
Name: Crowther's Rest
Game Map Search Ref: Nervir A 2 a
Coordinates: 50.5091, -17.1776

Description: Located in the bubble, this abandoned/memorial settlement rests on a high mountain plateau. It stands as a Memorial to Kenneth Crowther, an engineer whose work helped reach humanity reach the stars.
The site also has a view of Barnard's Loop behind it and to the right, while a 90-degree turn to the left provides a view of the Gas Giant it orbits with an edge on view of its rings.

I'm not sure this is POI-worthy (I think it probably isn't, and apologies for wasting everyone's time if that's true), but thought I'd post just in case....

POI: Other POI (?)
Name: Pastel Paradise
GalMap Ref: Flyiedgiae MZ-M d8-313

Description: F-class star system with six inner HMC planets (5 landable) and four outlying Type III gas giants, two with large ice planet binary companions, and the outermost one (10) with a somewhat chilly water world moon (surface temp of about -48F) with carbon-based life forms. Notable due to the WW moon (moderately uncommon) and the fact that the three outermost GGs are colored in various shades of salmon pink and a greyish-periwinkle blue. With a backdrop of multiple nebulae and the Milky Way band, excellent astrophotography opportunities abound for the intrepid explorer.

(The name is lame, but it's the best I could come up with.)

Portrait of Planet 10 from one of its outlying landable moons:
(Note: I believe the apparent binary star is just an optical artifact -- it's the F primary and another nearby star in the background that happen to be close together.)

(Unfortunately I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't have time to take more screenies. But I expect that the views from the innermost moon (landable) of the third GG out -- the ringed one with moons -- should be pretty spectacular.)

Proposed POI name: Jade Ghost Stellar Remnant
POI type: Nebula
Location: BYOI AIN WE-R E4-913
Description: Bluey-green stellar remnant when viewed from outside, but in the system we see nothing but a beautiful green hue surrounding a black hole. Located only 213 light years from Polo Harbour deep space outpost, this small nebula is an ideal place to visit for travellers on the Colonia Connection, or travelling towards the core.

Name: Double Blue Mountain
System: HD 1740
Type: Planetary
Description: "Double Blue Mountain is named for the excellent view of the deep blue gas giant as seen between sunlit twin-peaks from an orbiting moon. A tourist beacon has been set up here for visitors, giving credit to Cmdr Whitezephyr for original discovery of this scenic location."
