The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

I'm open to suggestions. But without the resemblance to the FDev logo, would it be interesting enough to visit?

Maybe something like the Braben Crater. I think that naming it after the games programming company breaks immersion a bit, but a real person connected to the universe might not.

Description:As name probably suggests, this system has three terraformable water worlds orbiting each other. The system is in galactic centre region, slightly above galactic plane and near the field of B and A-type stars, which results in pretty bright and interesting view.
Worth to mention that overall this system has 7 terraformable planets. 4 water worlds and 3 high metal content.

Partial Map Update, #3555-#3589

Added:

  • post #3575 / Frozen Tides - actually in Magnus Nebula, and that entry was updated/added
  • post #3576 / Roche's Planet
  • post #3578 / Born to the Purple - the purple gas giant is really what sold this
  • post #3579 / The Gates of Tartarus - photos really sold this one
  • post #3574 / Water Inbetween

Not Added:

  • post #3555 - no suggested name, no description
  • post #3556, #3557, #3559, #3561, #3563, #3569, #3577, #3583, #3587
  • post #3564 - redundant

Updated (from the Missing Photos Thread):

Name: Rare Earth Riches
Type: Organic Feature
Galmap Ref: HIP 36601

Desc: "Independent pilots often find themselves in need of rare earth metals; they are useful in field repairs, synthesis of FSD jump-range boosters, and for engineering module upgrades. The recent discovery of a trio of systems rich in rare earth metals is sure to draw attention.

In each system, one or more planets are found with numerous locations of the strange metallic life known as 'crystalline shards'. These shards produce copious amounts of a particular rare earth material, and pilots can completely fill their supplies in a single visit. Visiting pilots should take a small ship due to the rugged terrain. Gravity is low on these words.

The three systems form a triangle roughly 1500 light-years from the inhabited worlds ("The Bubble"). Planet names and types of minerals are as follows:

Outotz HD-J d9-3 - B 8 d - Antinomy
Outotz LS-K d8-3 - B 5 a - Yttrium
HIP 36601 - C 1 a - Polonium
HIP 36601 - C 1 d - Ruthenium
HIP 36601 - C 3 b - Tellurium
HIP 36601 - C 5 a - Technetium

Addendum: Biological Signal (8) on planet HIP 36601 C 5 A is particularly spectacular with sheer mountains, light haze, and a view of the nearby ringed gas giant.

Description:It's fairly rare to find an earth like world as a moon of a terraformable high metal content world, but it's very rare to see something like this in the empty expanses of The Abyss. This system has an additional terraformable high metal content world as well. Even out here life finds a way.

I believe that's the California(?) Nebula which, from this perspective, kind of resembles something familiar:

Mini-Map Update for Fixes (thanks marx)

1) Eor Free GR-W e1-1826 is now a planetary nebula
2) "Peace Nebula" deleted, picture merged into "Betta Splendens Nebula"
3) "Green Lantern Nebula" deleted, picture and partial description merged into "Poinsetta Nebula"

A few more errors:
1. Eor Free GR-W e1-1826 is classified as a major nebula, should be a planetary one
2. Byua Aim PP-Q b34-33 and Byua Aim AW-D d12-1254 are two designations for the same nebula (Byua Aim AA-A h16)
3. Oephaif CQ-F a3-1 and Oephaif GE-E b1-10 are two designations for the same nebula (Oephaif AA-A h5)

Name: Satan's Kingdom
Type: Geological
Galmap Ref: V337 Carinae

Planet: 1 B
Coordinates: -62.92, -14.34

Desc: Orange super-giant V337 Carinae glares down like an angry deity on this hot metal world. The view of the giant star is worth the visit, but the real gem is the canyon system, dozens of kilometers long. Speculated to be the remnants of a long vanished river system, it has sheer cliffs, open plains, rugged zones, and side channels. The colors vary between rust, auburn, terra cotta, and vermillion. This is a spectacular location for SRV races, base jumping, or high-speed ship flybys. It is even close enough to the Bubble for a day trip.

Hi, commanders. I found an area (about 500 light-years across) with a very high content of black holes . There are several hundreds of them, according to the most conservative estimates. To map this area, do I have to examine all of them?

A very small fragment of the cluster

If it really hosts hundreds of BH you don`t have to visit all of them. Nevertheless try to identify all of the galactic sectors which the cluster is located in (the first 1-2 words in a system name) and approximate center of it.
