I have had both the X55 and X52 pro. I prefer the X52 pro as I have like how the stick is adjustable for the size of your hands and the 55 was not comfortable to play with for me.

I have a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS - not expensive but feels like a quality product, with the (essential imho) yaw-control.

I'd also strongly suggest investigating Roccat's Powergrid (if you have an android device to hand).

Once configured to how you like - it's very (very) immersive - at least it is for me.

Well worth the 0 price tag.

If only Roccat would do something about a horizontal tablet mode.
For me it would be great if I could put my tablet horizontal, now it's more of a make do situation.

As for the T-Flight Hotas, I have it and wouldn't say it feels like a quality product, it feels (and is) cheap. It gets the job done, pretty well even but pretty much everything it has can be done better if you're willing to spend some cash.

I think all of those are good sticks for Elite Dangerous. I'm using the Warthog and it works really great. It is very precise, has lots of buttons so I don't need to take my hands off the stick at all (important for VR like Oculus Rift). I love that there is a tiny analog stick on the throttle which can be used to look around in the cockpit and track targets you are passing by. It's pretty expensive though and some of the buttons on the throttle are not ideal since they are essentially levers instead of push buttons which is not ideal in most games.

I have an X52 pro and love it, but if you want quality and true 6 DOF go with the CH products joystick - throttle and pedals because on the throttle you have an actual analogue stick you can assign to the strafe commands as an AXIS not a digital button. Wish my x52 pro had the same feature. CH products is more expensive if you go the full set (which you kind of have to since there is no yaw with the joystick..)

best ? x360pad !

( + iphone... with a vnc server to type "SYSTEM" on the virtual keyboard :) )

edit: a sofa and a good old' 42"........

Indeed, I have a T Flight as well. It may not have the quality of CH products, but the price is right and it's a perfect starter stick.

have anyone one of These:

X52 Pro
x55 (Madcatz)
Thrustmaster Warhog

The difference between these is small compared to the difference between a mouse/keyboard and a HOTAS. Warthog>X55>X52, buy what you can afford. As others have said, the Warthog doesn't have a twist handle so you'll want rudder pedals as well (they're still worth the money even if you have an X52/X55).

That is why is recommend CH or Thrustmaster. Saitek is flimsy and poorly designed.
I don't think the saitek's are more 'flimsy' then a comparable priced thrustmaster it's just the build quality/quality control. It certainly doesn't feel cheaper then my thrustmaster. As you can see in the pic above, the x52s allow wires to be pinched/cut by the moving mechanical bits. Saitek's wire management is literary just some hot glue and masking tape. Obviously this is going to come loose after a certain amount of joystick wiggling.

You can't really compare the x52s to the CH products or a warthog because they're targetting a completely different crowd. The warthog is $400 more and is a replica of an actual military plane's joystick. Obviously the casual Elite player is not the target audience for this.
The CH sticks aren't designed by a PC peripherals company or gaming company. They do industrial electronics and just happened to slap a USB cable on a few of their products for us gamers. No fancy paint or LEDs or space age designs because no one really cares what the joystick on a forklift looks like. If all you care about is durability then obviously CH is the way to go, but I'd rather my pit didn't look like a 1980's arcade game.

saitek rumble force

so with elite comming out i thought i dust off my old joy stick, Granted last time i used it was Jump to Lightspeed with swg. i know the things old as heck, but has anyone got it working with ED? i cant seam to get the drivers working with windows 7 and when hooked up it runs as "generic Joystick." anyone worked this out or shall i go back to the xboxone gamepad?

The CH stuff is nice but the one I would want is the warthog and its lack of twist yaw was a show stopper for me. Plus the money I saved was the difference between a gtx970 and a gtx980. To each their own however

I tried the X55, returned it due to sticky Z axis and buttons. Bought the 3 part CH set, great but the pedals are VERY loud when crossing the axis quickly. So returned the stick and pedals and bought the TM16000m. It doesn't have the nice hats the CH Fighterstick has, but hall effect sensors and a twist axis. With a shift button assigned, the CH throttle has enough buttons to not need to resort to the keyboard at all - and the ministick once the deadzone is tuned is uniquely wonderful.

All the upper tier hotas seem great, I will just leave this here though.....the analogue thumb stick on ch pro throttle is awesome for your lateral and vertical thruster needs ;)

I'm pretty sure the devs play with the X52 Pro. Even the in game flight stick looks like the x52. Personally, I want the x55. The warthog doesn't have any yaw control on the stick, just pitch and roll. If you want yaw functionality you need pedals.

Even though the game itself is developed base on x52 the problem is x52 itself is a sub-par joystick. Quality and accuracy-wise it is worse than the cheaper T16000M.

I've pretty much tested most the joysticks for it besides Warthog (been buying them, playing them for a little bit, and selling them or gave a couple to my friends) and I've found that x55 is probably the best for this game in terms of both accuracy and functionality. I'm sure it is not at Warthog's level but the twist-yaw and the shear number of buttons and toggles and thumb sticks on that beast more than made up for it.

I use the poor-man-way of joystick/keyboard/mouse combo. (Logitech Extreme3Dpro)

My typical WASD keys used to navigate between the menus (with the shift button) and the W for speeding up and D for slowing down. My joystick has only the triggers and the buttons on its top mapped to functions.

I use the mouse on the commodities list on stations or sometimes to look around in the cockpit.

(shhh...don't tell them how we run circles around dropships and the like)

First I tried the CH Pro Stick and Throttle. Very accurate, but too plastically and lightweight. Also the throttle didnt have enough buttons. Tried the Thrustmaster Warthog system and was like WoW! Returned the CH gear for the Warthog.

Yes it's expensive, but if you high a flight/space sim you are serious about, it's worth every penny.
