I have the Thrustmaster T. Flight HOTAS controller. As I am new to the game, I am still trying to figure out where everything is and what it does. I will get there eventually.

There are a bunch of posts on here with mappings (and pics!) of this bit of kit - I bought it specifically for this game (42 years old and never owned a flight stick before now) :)

Unfortunately, since I am a noob on these forums, I can't post links - but Google search points to a few

Saitek X52 Hotas Flight Controller System Joystick hands down the best bang for under $100.00

I have all my important controls mapped to it I don't even need the keyboard.

Thanks all, I've gone for the Saitek x52. Any profiles available for it?

Elite Dangerous recognizes the X52 and even shows the buttons. Just delete the "+pinkie modes" like shown somewhere here in the forum (sorry I can't link :()

I only had to change the button to look around. Rest works flawless.

Thanks for the Recommendations

Just ordered myself a Saitek as an early Christmas present. So depending on Aramex it should arrive in the New Year!

Saitek X52 non pro really would have been better choice. It's not a lot more but 3 times better.

I used to have a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas.
I had years of use but the twist rudder never centered and later the rocker rudder broke.

Thought it was good at the time but when I got my new X52 the difference was like night and day.

I love my X-55! Before that I was using an ancient Saitek Cyborg 3D with a throttle, and that worked just fine.
I had 4 X-55's All had issues like the throttle getting looser without touching the on the side and 1 joy stick came off in my hand wires everywhere. They feel great but to get a good one is ether lucky or takes patience.

Hoping for the best for my X55 then. It's under the Xmas tree right now.
I did check it before my daughter wrapped it, and the only thing I noticed was the throttle being VERY stiff, even on the lightest setting. However, I whacked it back and forth a few times and it loosened up a treat. Would still need the lightest tension though.
To be honest, if the throttle gets loser, that's what I'm hoping for, I prefer them lose. Only natural to expect the mechanism to free up as it wears in, most mechanical things do.
The other issue to be aware of course is the ghost inputs. The fix for that is to either use a powered hub, or plug into USB 3. Otherwise, USB 2 tends not to provide enough milliamps for some people.
Lube on the shaft is important too, and not getting any lube on the cup.

Was about to get the X52 but the X55 is quite cheap on madcatz and they're throwing in some headphones too but I'm reading bad reviews on it.
