I have the X-55 as well. I like it but I am concerned about it breaking given some reviews I have seen. Before getting the game i said to myself that I dont play rough.

well turns out I do in fact I think everyone has to. So if one is thinking of a stronger one I thnk it not a bad idea

Hi,

I am on the verge of buying the game. I have a question about the sticks that I have. Does anyone play with out dated saitek x36f hotas system. I play il2 sturmovik and cliffs over dover with it and the stick plays decently. Main stick works fine but only rudder works when using throttle. It would be great if someone could verify that x36f works similar way with elite. My second stick is thrustmaster flight stick x. Does any one use that? Does it work ok with elite?

I must admit. I'm actually pretty gentle with my old Sidewinder, even in Elite, speed doesn't necessarily equate to excessive force. That's as a result of being a fanatical FSX simmer probably. You don't treat the controls of a 777 like a maniac.

I'm in the X-55 club, have the throttle dialed way down to minimum tension and its still 'stiff', I'm pretty sure it would move the base if pushed quickly.
It does loose up after constant usage, but then I guess there's some clutch mechanism that when it cools down stiffens things up again. Anyways, its definitely usable, and I usually don't change speeds much - full, combat, and mining (That forward/reverse switch on the throttle is awesome).

Hi guys,

Looking to get a joystick for this game, any ideas which would be best?

Thanks

I am pleased with my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I've had no trouble with it, and it cost me very little ($40 CDN). I also have a Logitech G13 Gameboard, but I don't seem to use it for much.

Keyboard, mouse and joystick is enough for me, and even then, I use the mouse for convenience.

Here's a link to the joystick: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/extreme-3d-pro-joystick - no pressure. You should get what you like.

Happy trails,

Commander Leslie

Mouse or joystick ?

I wonder is it complicated to play the game by mouse ? I rather would like mouse but if its difficult maybe joystick would be better?

If moneys tight get an Xbox 360 controller its 100% better than mouse and keyboard.

If you can afford it get an x52 pro, its 1000% better than an Xbox controller.

Probably going to buy a Thrustmaster T. Flight HOTAS when January sales kick in. Thinking how I'll justify owning a peripheral for just one game, but I suppose I could try learning to play fighting games with it for a giggle.

Save yourself the frustration and don't make it harder on yourself. Get a joystick. Not a gamepad controller, a proper stick.

I'm using an Xbox 360 Controller, I don't know if I'd be able to justify splashing the cash on a Joystick unless I got heavily into the game but with a correctly configured gamepad it'll probably be a much better experience for flying than Mouse/Keyboard. As said 360/One Pads are fairly cheap and work well with PCs.

Currently using an ancient Saitek Cyborg Evo joystick + keyboard for functions usually found on the thrust module of other kits. Many buttons. Much happy. :)

Unfortunately I have to re-calibrate it before going in game... and again after a few hours of play. lol

I tried a few different keyboard + mouse configurations, but nothing made combat feel right (or work well) like the joystick.

Well it's a Space Sim so it would be so much better with a joystick, I use an X52 but want to upgrade to a Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Joystick which is currently the best joystick (arguably) you can get but is very expensive.
