This may take half a year or so to get everything.
The upgrade alone for three screens will cost me $700 because I also need a second video card, additional cables and another PSU unit.

Both the joystick and trackIR 5 are $170 in my country.

currently using xbone pad which is fine for general flying, trading ect but sucks for combat.

I have ordered a thrustmaster t-16000 which should be here in a few days I am going to use that with a logitech attack 3 as a duel joystick set up, the logitech is really old not even sure if the still sell it but it should be perfect for the directional thrust

Get the X-52 or the X-52 pro.
Don't get the Thrustmaster X. Is lacks buttons. The X-52 has about 30 or so buttons you can map =)

I just got my Thrustmaster X HOTAS and love it. Using that with voice attack is an amazing way to play this game. Having buttons vs using voice commands is a night and day difference and more immersive imo. Plus you can do it for less than half the cost of the X-52 and a quarter of the X-52 Pro.

Ultimately the choice is yours. There's no need to go out and buy an expensive HOTAS setup for this game. Spend the $8 and get voice attack. Good luck with whatever you choose and have fun!

Cheers

I already had a Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS-X and its fantastic for Elite-Dangerous. I really would like a X-52 or X-55 Rhino but I can't really justify it over the Thrustmaster at the moment.

I went cheap with a Logitech wxreme 3d pro, which was like 30 bucks or something, its much better than a mouse, but I cant say how much better the other recommendations would be ?

I started a Saitek Gold 3d just switched to the Logitech extreme3d pro and now waiting for the X-52 Pro. And I haven't played 2 hours worth yet!

anyone noticed X52-pro price went up?
2 months ago it was 139$ on Amazon

also strange but the X55 costs the same on Amazon..
Yup. That's exactly how I ended up with the X55 when I was initially planning purchase of the X52 Pro. Took me a few days to get used to it and figure out the best mapping of features for me. But now very happy with it. The X55 is an awesome HOTAS setup.

The X55 is an awesome HOTAS setup.

Agree. I got the x55 myself. Good quality, enough switches, hats and buttons to assign everything to Hotas. No Keyboard necessary except for galaxy map and chat. And I'm getting better at aiming every day...the joystick really scales with my abilities.

E:D also comes with a pre-configured x55 control setup, I had to change some things but in general that setup is really good.

Hi all, using my old Saitek Cyborg Evo Froce. Also thinking to configure my Razer Nostromo for throttle, bay door etc...

Would be nice to see some key bindings for those 2. It was and still is hell to configure my Joystick to work as I wanted. :D

As a left hander the Thrustmaster T16000m is about the only option (unless you want to learn to play the other way around), it has a very neat reversal option. Fortunately, it is an excellent stick, and good value too. It's chunky so doesn't try and walk around when you use it and also very sensitive. Some people don't like the buttons on the base, but they work fine, although you'll be hard pressed to use the six on the opposite side. Perhaps the only con is the throttle control, below the joystick, which has a short travel and not much feel. But I don't use it in ED, as I prefer to bind the percentage throttle controls to keys on the control menu.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I purchased the HOTAS X for 32 bucks on sale specifically for Elite, and it's been great. It doesn't have the buttons that the X52 has, but if you follow a couple of the leads set by great control schemes posted on these forums, it's very easy to double/triple the number of effective buttons on the HOTAS X by binding specific keys to modifiers (like SHIFT or ALT on a keyboard/mouse setup). Button problem solved.

I'll give another vote for the X52 or the X55. I bought the Rhino, and I've just been in love with it. Luckily, I haven't had any of the Windows 8.1 problems I've seen mentioned. It does have to be plugged in directly to my computer's USB 3.0 slots though. It's the only product that my computer won't recognize if it's plugged into a powered hub.

Yeah but then you have to use your other hand to hold down the control key, when it could be just pressing a single binding itself - unless you can operate a stick whilst holding down one of the buttons :). You can get into all sorts of hand contortions using this kind of technique that are reminiscent of that party game called Twister.

Cannot believe no CH options in questionnaire.

I couldn't believer it either, but I remember hearing that CH Products controllers are both prohibitively expensive and hard to find outside of North America. Plus the CH controllers aren't as sexy, even if they are built like a brick outhouse.

I had a CH stick back in the UK when I was last into flying games. Early/mid 90's. I don't think they are that hard to find lol. The components aren't even that expensive individually. I think my only gripe is that there is no option to have a twist rudder forcing you to buy three peripherals for maximum versatility. When combined that IS quite expensive. But individually they are not too bad.
