Microsoft force feedback II, you will have to get it from ebay or something. Really good stick been using it for years

I had one of those back in the day, and wish I'd never gotten rid of it.
Now using a Thrustmaster T.Flight X with mouse and keyboard. I might try again with a logitech gamepad, I didn't have the bindings quite sorted the first time.

Fly Safe CMDR!

Still using mouse and keyboard, although Voice Attack allows me to slow down, speed up, turn flight assist on/off, change fire groups and target, even in combat, without having to find the keys to do it.

I always used a mouse and keyboard when I played Elite frontier and First Encounter so I'm quite used to it now and Voice Attack makes it even easier because I don't have to remember which button does what, I just tell it what to do.

I am only a less than a week into the game , so take this with a grain of salt, but I have been playing keyboard only. Enjoying it a lot, not sure I will ever need anything else.

Been playing with keyboard only since alpha with no problem but I think of your going up against other players in combat then a joystick might be a good idea

Big yes. I play with 2 rig, secondary rig is mouse/kb only and I only dare use it for trading, primary rig is with Joystick, gives me a much better control of the ship.

Best low-cost joystick/game pad?

I'm looking for a joystick or a game pad that will make docking easier. I am currently using a 360 Controller. What would be a good joystick or gamepad that would make the game more playable (so I can dock in less than 10 min. would be ideal)

I use the 360 controller as well, but use the advanced control scheme. It's fine for my purposes. I thought you were going for a docking computer?

I like my Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X. I bought it for $47 on Newegg.com I am uncertain if that price is still available as I believe Elite: Dangerous single handedly brought down the world wide HOTAS supply.

I can't seem to find a system that sells one....

I think they are only sold in stations, not outposts. At least that has been my experience. I dont need the docking computer, but use one because I am lazy. I usually get up to get a drink or take a leak while it does it thing.

There are a lot of E-Peens that hang around here that will give you a hard time and try to discourage you. Just ignore them.

t.flight hotas x

Still docking is something you gotta learn, a different controller won't change that. It's not that hard...

Edit: Do not buy a docking computer, it's just a waste of a good slot. You won't need it, I'm sure you will be able to perform the most basic action there is in this game

If you're looking for an affordable joystick, this one comes to mind :)

http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/extreme-3d-pro-joystick (I had it's predecessor years ago and it was -really- good)
40 USD isn't a bad price.

As for the 360 Controller? It's my weapon of choice so to speak, I've flown into stations near full throttle (smaller ships like Cobra) all the time to smuggle (or simply practice smuggling) , and I do feel I have near perfect Control.

I use the "Controller with yaw" settings, (With added booster on the red button B ,and hypedrive on blue X)
Side-trusters I simply use the Q and E keys on the Keyboard (as I mostly use those while landing)

I have the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X and it's a nice & cheap HOTAS setup.
I originally started the game with an Xbox 360 controller and the T.Flight is so much better.

Same here, uk £39, fantastic HOTAS for the money, can't go wrong.

Thrustmaster T16000m is a great joystick, with lots of buttons and a throttle.

Smoother that the Hotas-X joystick, which also has quite a big deadband arounf centre.

Actually. I have both. I use the throttle from the Hotas-X, and the T16000M as the main joystick.

The joystick from the Hotas-X sits behind the monitor.

+1 For the logitech 3d Pro

I use an X-55 on my main PC at home, but as I work away from tiem to time I take a high end laptop with me and use the 3d pro. I miss not having a dedicated throttle though so considering bringing along a second small joystick for thrusters and throttle only. thrusters are essential in combat IMHO

landing

The landing crap sucks. they need to just make it where you can dock like eve or any other space game. Maybe when my hotas comes this will be easier but the keyboard sucks!
