Joystick Curves

From the site above on the forums someone in ED posted this ,

I found this killer app trying to figure out why I suck so bad at Elite Dangerous. Thanks to this joystick curve program I suck a tiny bit less. Here's a video tutorial that'll walk you through a setup. It's specific to Elite Dangerous, but you'll know how to do all the basics when it's done. It's great fun testing out different curves and tweaking them to my play, can't thank you enough for this!

I have it installed , but in my setup , on that target screen the % are at %50 , still seems Ok , flying in FA off is a lot easier to manage now


Anyone using it have any setup tips to post ?

Optical sensors.. hat switches still work.. never figured out how to get the shift button to work with other buttons.
Keyboard for other stuff.. mouse for system/galaxy map..
It served me well thru all of WingCommander series..Freelancer.. Xwing..TIE.. Xwing v TIE..to many to rememeber tbh..

Having never used a HOTAS or flightstick before, I ordered an X52 Pro to play the (then) upcoming X Rebirth. I never could get the stick to work correctly (or the game for that matter), so I just shoved it back into its box in frustration and chucked it into the garage and forgot all about it...until the other day. I came across it whilst looking for something else, unboxed it and plugged it in and booted up ED...and it worked!!!

Basically I had to completely relearn the game as I found using the stick and throttle and all of the buttons really counter intuitive and clumsy, but damn was it fun; I felt like I was really flying a spaceship (poorly) for the first time ever. I've since become enthralled with using a HOTAS and can't see myself ever going back to a controller.

My feeling is that the X52 Pro is a "decent" stick, though it feels very cheap to me now that I've had a chance to get used to it and learn how to use it.

I'm currently saving up for a Thrustmaster Warthog and pedals; should have them by the end of the month, and will be modifying my chair to include mounts for the stick and throttle on the arm rests.

Could I have a few pointers please.
I've only ever played kb&m
Got me a brand me T Flight Hotas X
Do I need to do any custom keymaps and are there any tips about what to map to what? Also for things like controlling the speed for FSD (like the scroll wheel of the mouse) what is equivalent on the hotas please?

I'm assuming I'll still need to use plenty of kb shortcuts...

Simple question. Is there supposed to be a default bind set up for CH Pro Throttle/Fighterstick combination? Both the stick and throttle are recognised and I am able to set up controls manually (although some problems setting the throttle itself) so they are recognised OK

I just set them up there without default. I have a Fighterstick and pro throttle. The annoyance with setting up the throttle may have to do with your ministick. I do use CH control manager though, just to make sure everything is calibrated but it isn't nessessary. If you go to the CH site and login, I think there are pre made profiles you can take.

I just replaced my Thrustmaster HOTAS X stick with a Thrustmaster T16000m (I still use the X throttle). The difference is pretty massive, for anyone wondering. There is a pretty large mechanical deadzone in the HOTAS X, and I could never get the VJoy drivers to work to add joystick curves (conflicts with other controller software I use).

The T16000m doesn't have a deadzone at all on the Roll or Pitch axis. It makes flying so much better, especially in FA: OFF mode. It takes such slight adjustments to move the ship, I don't even have to think about it. I was flying the other day in a CZ flipping between FA: ON and FA: OFF and didn't realize I had left FA: OFF until I was jumping out.

If anyone is thinking of buying this stick, I highly recommend it. Can't wait until the stand alone throttle comes out. September, I think?

+1. Owing to your recommendation, I ordered the T-16000M and it arrived today. Swapped out my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and couldn't be happier. I did have to put a small deadzone in the pitch, since it drifted a tiny bit after I pitched back and released the stick. It's a very tiny deadzone though. Much smaller then the Logitech. Also, I no longer have the problem of the yaw drift with the Logitech. Losing the extra buttons on the top of the stick is going to take a little getting used to, but the base has more buttons to make up for it.

I still have my X-52 throttle and they work together like they were made for each other.

never really thought of using the other one , have a G19 keyboard offset too my left which does all the throttle stuff but your layout has me thinking !

I use the X52 but have the excellent Defender Cobra M5 as a back up stick. I use it for flying in Arma 3 and I did use it for Star Citizen until they broke the rudder twist. It registers in Windows by not SC, for some reason.

I bought an x52 when ED came out and I thought it was great, but it was my first stick in years. About 3 months ago, one of the throttle hat switches broke and while I could have returned under warranty I took the plunge and bought a thrustmaster warthog. The difference is astounding.

The warthog is by far a more solid and robust piece of kit. Makes the x52 feel like a toy in comparison, and it feels like it will last years rather than months. There's no z-axis twist on the stick, which was odd at first, but you get used to it, and the array of toggles and buttons means you don't even need the keyboard anymore.

Excellent addition to any player's cockpit!

Joystick are useless, expensive and only usable for fly simulation other interface are better, less expensive and can be use for nearly everything. Joystick is just fancy stuff.

G13 keyboard+ G600 mouse is best for everything and not expensive.

Anyway, I'm running a CH Products setup. Fighterstick, Throttle, Pedals. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I'd consider a Warthog stick just to see how different a hall effect stick feels.

Had a X52 pro. I liked it but buttons started getting flakey after about a year. Replaced it with CH Products Fighterstick and Throttle. Really like this set! I use the small analog joystick on the throttle for yaw and vertical landing thrusters. Works really well.

I'm using my trusty Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar that I've had for years. Love it. I also have the CH Pro Pedals and TrackIR. It's a really nice setup that I've been using for flight sims for years. Short of VR it doesn't get much better in my opinion. I used to own a Saitek X52 and when I first got into the cockpit in Elite Dangerous and looked at my commander's body, I had a good chuckle at the fact that they modeled the controls in the cockpit after the X52. It actually made me a little nostalgic and for a moment I wished I hadn't gotten rid of my X52.

I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick plus Voice Attack with the Eden voice pack. It's been working pretty well for me so far. Later I may look into a HOTAS setup, but the budget just doesn't allow it at the moment.

I've tried joysticks (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro was the best I think), keyboard & mouse, but i'm now back to using my Xbox controller for Windows. It fits in my hands and I can do many things without stretching my hands too far or seeing which buttons to press

Now I just need to figure which button combination to start the coffee maker...

Been playing with a Razer Sabertooth 360 pad since release. Mostly because I'm lazy and I can't be bothered getting out/putting away other peripherals - and it makes the game a lot more approachable if I cba to get the stick out (I own an X45).

As much as I love playing Elite Dangerous, it's literally the only game I own that would get any use out of an actual joystick/throttle control. I'll stick to my xbox one controller.

I play Elite exclusively in VR and cant use the keyboard while using the HMD, so a decent HOTAS setup is an absolute must for me. I recently switched my X-55 Rhino for a Thrustmaster Warthog in combination with the new Thrustmaster rudder pedals. I can access every ship function, except text chat of course and have a analogue input for all six controll axis. The T.A.R.G.E.T app to programm the Thrustmaster hardware might be a bit complicated to use, but the functionality it offers is beyond anything i have seen before. Best setup i have ever used. Makes piloting in Elite pure fun.If we will get the ability to leave our seats one day, i will use the XBox controller, that was included with the Rift. It will have enough functionality, besides being easy to grab with a VR headset on.
