Logitech F310 gamepad.

Cheap, effective, customizable in D input mode with Logitech Profiler.

So far i have just used it for Darksouls 1 and 2, as well as Elite Dangerous, it has not failed me yet.

So, asking folks who've used both: is X-65F worth the much higher price or should I go for the X52 Pro?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Depends if you like the "Force Sensing" feature of the X-65F.
Personally it looks way wrong.

Then again I went with the Warthog which has lots of nice movement and nice clicky switches.
Plenty of buttons, knobs and scrollers to yaw.

Yes, lovely stick. Not one of those twisty thingies. With rudder pedals just like them real pilot chappies use :D

Trustmaster Warthog Stick and CH Pro trottle

I use with success

a Trustmaster Warthog (only the Stick) togehter with one CH Products Pro throttle.

No problems with config in Elite and it´s nice usefull. :)

Can reach all switches with my left hand without to take my hand from the CH throttle.

I don´t like the Warthog HOTAS. Because, is to much fixed like a "A-10" fighter.
And I don´t need the switches like the Warthog HOTAS in Elite or other space sims.

My Trustmaster Warthog Stick is absolute awesome. Nice feeling to have the cold metal in your hand.:D

Both, the TM and the CH are nice quality.

Price was cheaper as a full package from Trustmaster or CH Products.

Please give us full and proper Force Feedback joystick support.
And not forgetting xbox one trigger FFB and rumble as well.

There are forces and effects that can be represented absolutely everywhere on a space craft via haptic feedback. Landing gear operation, landing and take off forces and vibration, atmospheric flight - both entry and exit, atmospheric exit thrust forces, impacts in asteroid fields and with other space objects including other ships or docking manoeuvres, ballistic weapons fire vibration, combat damage vibrations from ballistic weapons fire and missile hits to shield impacts. Then three could be the vibration forces from using afterburners or sudden reverse thrust. And even some opposite force when nearing high g-forces, or high ships hull stress limits - a slow force building up, and then maybe a stick shaker reminder.

I would expect to see a couple of settings or more in the advanced controller options eventually to adjust the amount of force feedback. This would seem a logical step to take. And other options, but I'd leave that to the dev's to decide upon. Certainly some advanced force feedback options would be great to have so one can fine tune the experience.

Plus anyone using a force feedback stick in Elite will need the auto centring addressed, most have the optical sensor to detect when the grip is held. So some section in the games settings/advanced joystick controls will need to have force feedback centring options. And many more I hope to further adjust force feedback options, such as strengths and maybe limiting where FFB is used. Then also having the option to manually edit the games *.ffe files (haptic feedback effect files).

Tips for better physical control of Joystick

I was just wondering if any experienced flyers out there had any tips for newbie joystick users?

I played the original Elite on my trusty BBC B and later Master 128 and got quite proficient at keyboard control without yawing. IE. The roll to top and pitch up technique.

However I've taken the plunge and bought myself a Thrustmaster Hotas X stick. I'm very new to this way though and I'm finding it difficult to control precisely.

So basically I'm looking for good tips to help me practice please! What sort of position should I be in for best control for example. At the moment the table the laptop is on is quite high and so I'm effectively reaching up slightly to grasp the stick. HOw much effect does the dial on the bottom make and should I have it tighter or looser?

Is the roll and pitch technique still the best? I was thinking with the twist of the joystick I'd be able to grasp yawing but I find that because of my control I'm pulling the stick at the same time and sort of spiralling.

I'm finding combat trickier than I once did. Particularly evasive maneuvers. While I'm find catching and targeting a ship hard too, they seem to be able to hit me at any angle in whatever maneuver I'm trying to do!

Any help for a newbie joystick user would be appreciated! :)

Joystick control largely relies on muscle memory which can take a few weeks to develop. Or in a difficult game like war thunder with broken wobble in arcade, months.

You have asked the questions that can only be answered by yourself. You should place everything in such a way that would be comfortable to you.

If it is possible to change the resistance of the joystick set it the way you are comfortable with.

E.g. I can use my HOTAS all day without any problems or being tired. And I am using the stiffest spring.

ED is all about pitch and roll so no matter what you are using this does not change anything.

Hi Dalek501.

Personally, I have my HOTAS at about lap height - it just seems less of strain to me. Some people mount theirs to the side of their chairs. Maybe you can raise your seat height?

Roll and pitch is indeed the way forward. Yaw has been deliberately reduced for gameplay reasons, but it's still there and useful/necessary for flight and aiming corrections.

The tension on the stick is personal preference - mine is non-adjustable.

Learn to use the power distribution system: more pips to engines gives you a better speed, better turning and the ability to boost more often. More in systems strengthens your shields and the rate of recharge.

You will have a better turning circle if you keep your velocity in the 'blue zone' of your speed indicator.

Lateral/vertical thrust: also very important in combat. Try to get used to turning and thrusting at the same time.

The first single-player scenario is good for flight practice.

Finally, just stick with it - you'll get better and better, and it'll all seem second nature in no time.

Physical positioning of the controller is important. YOU need you controls to be comfortable to use for a few hours and I would advise trying different set ups so you have an idea of what you prefer.

Yeah I'm feeling the joystick being a little too high is hampering my control a little. IE. the position of my arm is pulling the stick back without me really noticing. If it was lower I dont think I'd get that "pull"

I really would like full and proper force feedback support in both games (ED & SC). But for now with ED, all I can think of is the continued pressure to implement it when all the real advanced joystick settings and profiles get put into the game with a force feedback section for forces and options - where to apply and maybe some separated strengths options, and of course the important options for the FFB motors centring/deadzones.

Question: Which forum section would be the best to make the request for full and proper force feedback support ?

I spent 3 days getting my controls figured out. I don't have enough money for fancy Hotas or additional joysticks so I just used a couple cheap joysticks I already have:

Left hand: Logitech Attack 3
Right Hand: Logitech Extreme 3D

With 23 buttons plus a hat d-pad I've got all necessary functions covered, plus I don't have to take my hands off the joysticks during combat or heavy maneuvers. :)

Amazon UK are showing the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X as expected in on August 1st @ £28.66 with free delivery available.

Of course one would be taking the chance that they really do get them in on that date...

Someone else got the problem that the game forgets what was assigned to a second joystick (if you own two, like me :)[dual T.16000m]) every time the game restarts?
