I am currently sitting just 5 inches from a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold. An oldie but some fond memories from it.

I've had mine for years and it still works fine. :)

To those saying we don't need a throttle: Elite Dangerous' combat is going to resemble X-Wing's - so it'll be necessary to be able to immediately slow down, or speed up, in order to chase an enemy and remain on his six. The only way to do that with any degree of control is a proper analogue throttle.

I definitely will not miss Frontier's 'jousting' style combat, that's for sure.

Speaking of analogue throttles I wonder if you'll need to centre the throttle for forward and reverse thrust ?
Other possibilities (for those with a dual throttle ala G940 etc) is being able to send thrust forward on one side only or one side forward and one rear at the same time. Obviously this will require a craft with 2 engines.
In planetary atmosphere it could help a damaged ship fly straighter.

I want two options for my thrust control (X52 Pro)...

Full forward is full thrust. Back to notch is zero thrust, back past the notch is forward retro thrust.

And...

Full forward is zero thrust. Back to the notch is full thrust. Back past the notch is over thrust; duration limited though.

Joystick Choice.

My joystick is a Thrustmaster Hotas X with additional throttle, which unfortunately is not supported fully by some games. So whilst the general topic about Joysticks is a good one, game compatibility is the more demanding topic of conversation in my opinion. I would like not only to be able to use all the joystick buttons and thrust lever but also in the future Force Feedback which in a combat situation is like having another pair of eyes and ears on your combat monitor. Plus when your altering direction or operating one of the buttons on the stick that little nudge beep or shiver is enough to let you know all is well.

I've got a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force gathering dust since I finished with the first X3 game.

I love the stick, but I've found Saitek drivers to be a nightmare on Windows (my driver woes originally started with a Saitek steering wheel). I do love their hardware though.

Anyway, my Evo under Windows 7 (x64) does not allow me to configure it's behavior with the "proper" drivers in the control panel, I get a DLL error whenever I try. This means that I need to remove the software and play with the Windows default USB HID drivers, which means no force feedback or return to centre, as well as no customisation.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I've had a Thrustmaster Warthog for a couple of years which is excellent for flight sims, I would imagine it will do very nicely for Elite.

Hardware topics, PC, Mac, Joystick, Monitors and more.

This really not a new topic but I hope can be use to sort some of the Hardware, Joystick, Monitors & consoles into a group on So people can look here before posting something that already been posted.

Hardware forum Idea This tread is in Off-Topic Discussion I should ask to have it moved so people can located hardware topics that already been posted. In General forum & Dangerous Gameplay and Features I should also have it renamed.

The topics I started from the Oldest Topics to the newest topics. So the newer topics will be at the bottom of the list. Note if I miss any let me know. I will add more. Later I will try to sort them into category like 3d, Spec, Monitors.

Branded E:D Joystick/Input Device?

Was wondering if folks at Frontier had considered partnering up with a hardware manufacturer to make an "optimised" input device for E:D.

Rather than something cheap and predictable like Logitech or MadCatz, maybe reach out to someone like Fanatec?

I own a steering wheel and pedals unit from them, and the construction is really quite remarkable. Full metal construction, etc. For an example, check out their "Clubsport Shifter": http://us.fanatec.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=681

Would be amazing to have a really high quality stick to go with a really high quality game :)

Picked up a Saitek x52-Pro system from a garage sale the other day and would be delighted if E D were to release someway to pre-program this sucker as there are a million buttons and alas no manual was included in the sale. Can't complain as only paid 25€ ;)

is this branded enough for you:D

Good buy! I recently bought it new, in a store, in a box.. no manual either.
After installing the CD some buttons didn't work under Win7-64bit so I searched the web for the latest drivers and those worked. Seems you did a fine job with 25Euro!

Buttons can be programmed from within the SST Programming software, there's a link to it in the control software icon.

Go to the Saitek site, you can download the manual and software there!
