Yes, I mine in mine with a 4 +2 cargo bay and one mining laser. Have you done any mining before? Did you check that the resources were being allocated and the full bins were being converted to cargo? If so, I suggest you ticket it.

To be more explicit, you need to have free cargo space on your ship for mining to work properly. A 100% hopper should empty and transfer 1 canister of what you were collecting to your cargo bay. If you don't have a cargo bay (or it is full) the hopper will remain at 100% until you empty it or spare cargo capacity becomes available.

This should perhaps be made clearer in game..

Useful tip though, if you do have a cargo bay but it is full you can fill up the hopper and as soon as capacity becomes available in the bay it will generate the canister - this allows you to effectively carry a bit more than your normal maximum cargo capacity provided you are happy to empty out your cargo incrementally.

Aha. That's what I stuffed up then. I sold the cargo rack for the refinery. Yes, it would have been useful to um, know that prior to making these mistakes. Cheers guys, I guess I need to get rid of the shields then to fit a cargo rack again. Just hope I have the money to buy one otherwise it's going to be interesting trying to scrape money together by bounty hunting with mining lasers....... :)

My setup is with no shields or disco scanner. 1 x 4 slot cargo hold, 1 x 2 slot cargo hold, 3 bin refinery, 1 x mining laser, 1 x pulse laser. I can fill up with 9 tons that way (6 cargo and 3 full bins). I tend to mine in safe systems and haven't been stopped once.

OP, you only need 1 mining laser... so you are down only one weapon... or are you? You can keep the mining laser turned off when not mining and mount a weapon in the other slot which is twice as powerful as before, thus losing little in firepower!

I am doing the same. Works fine. I had a few problems understanding how the hoppers work so might be worth mentioning:

3 hoppers allows you to collect 3 different minerals, after that you need to vent any other minerals collected.
For example you might get some Silver mixed in with your Betrandite. Take care to vent the right one!

6 cargo and 3 FULL BINS. Why din't I think of that. Cheers Cirrus top tip.

Well, I thought the same a few days ago. I wondered what would happen if I had three full bins when I went back to the station. I sold my cargo first, then exited the commodities market. Went back to the market and sold the other 3 tons which had now moved to the cargo bay :)

Have to say though, it does not seem to work every time. Sometimes it only gives me 1 ton and the other bins show 100% and 91% (or something). not sure where the missing resources went from the third bin, or why it won't move the other 100% to the cargo bay.

Cheers all. Wonderous what happens when you have a cargo rack isn't it! :)

Got myself some bertrandite and Leopoldite last night in a little session. Mining feels about right to me, it's a fairly grubby little operation.

mining

purchased a new refinery with 4 bins, mined a new asteroid dropped gold and another material I have gold in my refinery already and an empty one for the other material, will only let me refine 1 material wont let me do both but I have a spare bin if you know what I mean don't want to eject the gold I already have must be something wrong ?

Difficult to diagnose.. Have you clicked on the name of the other material in the refinery menu? If there is a bin free it should be allocated to that rather than being vented.
If that isn't happening I suspect a bug and it would be worth ticketing it.

Did you upgrade your refinery with Gold in the bin?

I upgraded a 3 bin to 4 and while the bins had stuff in them I needed to vent it.

Probably should have ticketed it.

hi guys, I re-logged and the gold disappeared, not to worry enjoying this mining though, are we getting a wipe on the 16th ?, if we are im wasting my time here mining I hope we don't. I do recommend the 4 bin one though so much easier bigger if funds permit. see you in space guys

Did you replace your cargo hold with the refinery? If so, that is your problem. No one knows on the wipe. I prefer they don't, myself. Too hard to find those out of the way mining spots.

There is a bug when upgrading a refinery.

If you replace a refinery, any ore still in the hoppers gets dumped automatically, however the game will still show the ore in the hopper of the new refinery.

You can either manually eject the old ore to clear that hopper, or relog (as OP did) and the game will refresh. Until this is done, the hopper with old ore are unusable.

Ok so I tried mining for the first time...

and it was not particulary fun...it was probably more boring than repainting my whole house in 2013 for 5 weeks :)

Seriously, I managed to find one rock with palladium. But it was empty after 1 ton. Then the rest of the rocks had less quality materials.

Most of the time it was just shoot one rock. Get bad material move on to next. And then next system.

So if you our out of luck for the day it will yield Little income / hour in my opinion.

But worst thing it is so boring. Ok, mining in RL is probably boring but a game should have fun mechanics.
