The next update 2.1 Engineers (1.6 to basegame-only owners) scheduled for April release?

Anyone got a pic of making a mountain out of a molehill? Quality first. 2.0.x missions are bugged as hell. Let FD take their time to up the quality, play the parts of the game you like or, play other games while you wait for fixes in 2.1.

We (the customers) were notified the very same day. I wouldn't exactly call that a delay, would you?

They couldn't tell us any sooner that this - it couldn't have been in last weeks newsletter because they hadn't even told their shareholders or the stock exchange yet.

Unfortunately it might not be on his head...

Scary thought June edition of penthouse featuring Todd the cranky engineer. that would explain the delay miss May and April were already chosen, go Todd.

If someone can supply a Stock Exchange legal ruling reference link that shows that all shareholders, viz The London Stock Exchange, or Company practices Law that definitely state that what posters here are calling a legal requirement, and whether, if it even exists, notifying Shareholders and customers at the same time is not legal I will bow to their superior knowledge. Otherwise it is just forum jabber.

Here you go, knock yourself out. http://www.lawcom.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/lc350_fiduciary_duties.pdf It exists. As a company with public shares you have to, by law, report to the stock exchange on various matters however there is no law stating that you have to also inform customers at the same time or at any time after.

If you fail in your duties as a company director, jail waits for you. All legal and above board, no other way FD could have broke the news to their investors.

And I, for one, applaud the decision not to release something you're not comfortable with. However, I do think management should have a long conversation on reconsidering the policy of only conducting maintenance on the development branch of the game. From a user experience perspective, this can mean many months from bug reports to fixes, for bugs of all kinds of severity. This is especially frustrating with the paid beta model, as it means that the lion's share of the player base will not be able to interact with the new code and report bugs until after it is 'launched' and therefore closed to further development. I understand there is a necessary commitment of resources required here, but if the users are spending the majority of their time interacting with versions of that game that aren't being rigorously updated... The non-beta users aren't going to feel all the work that goes into updating the dev build daily. All users are seeing is releases that are delayed. Bugs that are months old in live. It's really a PR thing, if that makes any sense.

Just to let you know, Zac has posted in the news and updates section.

This may be common knowledge for people in the UK, but is completely puzzling to me as an outsider - why do you have to tell the city (Which I may interprete as a synonym for the ministry of finance?) before anyone else? And what is stopping anyone from telling them first, then 5 minutes later the customers? :D

You have to tell the shareholders first because the shareholders own Frontier Developments. The majority of the owners of Frontier Developments will be reading the Regulatory News Service, not the weekly Elite Dangerous newsletter. If this was announced in the newsletter, then company owners (shareholders) who also played Elite would get an unfair advantage if they decided to sell up (on bad news) or buy more (on good news) that hadn't been received by the rest of the company's owners (shareholders) - in other words, a form of insider trading would happen.

To everyone else whining in this thread, if you think you've got problems, this announcement directly wiped nearly £6 million from David Braben's personal net worth at a stroke (share price down nearly 15%, or 33p, with Braben holding 17,910,953 ordinary shares). The board will not be taking these decisions lightly, especially when at least one member of said board can be in a position to lose millions of pounds in an instant over things like this. (Of course Braben's loss will only become realised if he sold his shares, which I doubt he will do - but losing 6 million of net worth could affect his finances if he's using those shares as collateral for investing in other things).

Does this mean the planned release for the Engineers update has been officially pushed back until June?

FDev deciding to pay less tax this year but more tax next year leads me to believe that Horizons sales didn't go as well as expected. And now I can see why FD want to start monetising the naming of NPCs, planets, systems, etc.

I am not familiar with the british tax code, but It could simply mean that they have more expenses to write off for 2016-2017 than 2015-2016. Assuming there are no penalties to pay for paying late, then it also makes sense to hold on to the money for another year as it can be re-invested in the business.

slap in the face :D

The biggest slap is that we have to live with all the bugs we have since beta...

THANKS FOR THE NICE AND NEW PATCH POLICY!

Thanks Bran I am not disputing that Shareholders need to be kept informed. I am however challenging the jabber that they have to be informed before or ahead of customers of a product. Seeing as many customers here actually financially gave a leg up to FD by helping with the KS, I would think decency would dictate that we are treated at least on an equal footing as the money guys. I have seen too many things in FD forgotten, bypassed and downright removed to expect FD to respond honestly and with integrity to the customer base I guess.

Please everyone.

The timing of the news has been established (with references) as mandatory.

It is not germain to the announcement about the game updates, and is off topic. Please keep to the subject of the release schedule for Horizons.

Thank you .

I must have read the news letters and announcements wrong then as I seem to have the impression that 2.1 first part of Engineers was due out around 1-2 weeks from now. This is a little sad then.
But I guess if FD are putting 5 upgrades in to Horizons over this next period of expansion, they will either have to do 1 a month after the June one or take two years until the next major update to the game.

This - if they are pushing the next upgrade back, most likely they will ALL get pushed back and we will not get the full value of our "Annual Subscription" this calendar year.

This has been answered a few times in the thread. It's not 'jabber', but law. Decency doesn't come into it and a KS backer is not a shareholder and has no legal rights to be treated like one

This is really disappointing.... 8 pages and nobody has said "slap in the face" yet :/

More forums inhabitants are growing out of kids' clothes. And adults aren't as easy to be slapped in the face. :D

Either that or the usual "easy to please, easy to offend" guys are on the lunch break...

What? :D
"Annual subscription"? That's the first. You "subscribed" for a number of updates, not for a year.
