Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I do think a better flight model will come to NMS at some stage. This would be a real plus for HG and the playerbase would probably explode again. The reason a number of players sort of give up on NMS is through the current flight model, it just isn't up to par with the rest of the game now, well for me it's not.

I was forewarned about NMS not being a flight simulator by any stretch, even ED's, and so it's the planetary stuff I came for, and stay for. That being so, I'm happy to press L2 to auto-track enemy ships, and 'X' to shoot them.

Feels like my bolt caster could use a few upgrades, and I'm onto expanding the slots for that, which is why I left Kitaa so rashly.

Hopefully a better flight model is somewhere on the list of things to do. Personally I'd like it if they updated crashed ships. It should be a way of earning credits rather than spending the .

I love the new asteroid fields. The old ones that would just spawn in front of you over and over were such an immersion killer. This is MUCH better. Plus, I came across a lightning storm in one of the new nebulae effects:

My biggest complaint about NMS was the imbalance between the planetary content and the space content. While space still needs more fleshing out, Hello Games has added some great polish to the experience over the last few updates. Here's hoping the big 4.0 update will bring more space goodness!

The asteroids are a huge update. And meeting NPCs mining out there is quite fun as well.

I decided to start a new campaign. My old campaign was getting glitchy from all the updates I suspect, so I started a new one, this time a casual game.

(My old camp was survival mode. Let me tell ya: trying to do campaign missions while needing to constantly power your gear can become a big nuisance. I am glad I went back to casual mode.)

I am doing the Artemis mission where you need to triangulate her position. My second point for the beacon happened to take me to this place, during a storm, with a crashed freighter for the background.

One thing I would like to see is some sort of spooky enemy that arrives during a storm. Generally speaking, I think this game needs a hostile race. Some sort of NPC menace (besides the sentinels that remain more of a nuisance than a true foe) that would give us targets to raid, fleets to fight, systems to liberate, etc. Perhaps they could be disabled at the start of a new campaign for those who don't want a war messing up their chill gameplay style. Be that as it may, I would like a real menace to make an appearance in the game.

I know everybody have their different views but, how I see it, NMS is no replacement/alternative/competitor to ED.
Originally, I hated its looks, but it has improved over time, and once I got free of that unconscious bias that told me "it's ED or NMS", I started loving it.

As I mentioned before, to me it's Subnautica on steroids. It's massive in scope, there's much freedom, but being an arcade game, there's very often a shortcut to do things faster.
And it's not about space at all.

Its main limit, for me, is that it works like a tank that gets empty over time: I always reach a point where I have maxed out everything, and at that point it becomes more like doing daily chores and it all becomes very samey, until a new update (or expedition) goes live, and the tank is topped up again for me to enjoy another hundred hours or so (which is a lot!).

I have thought about this, because it's something that several people have mentioned about ED, repetitiveness, perceived shallowness with the additional problem that updates for ED are very rare; and yet, I have never felt the tank empty, with ED.

NMS is tons and tons of fun, if one gets it in the right way.
But then it's the same with every game.

I never saw it as a replacement for ED, just a fun looking game.

So, i've now sunk a few tens of hours into it, playing in creative mode. I have little interest in playing survival games these days, so creative is the best choice for me.

I can see myself spending a few hundred hours playing the game, perhaps longer if Hello Games keep the updates coming. I certainly don't regret buying it and i think its going to be well worth the money.

Mainly following the quests and building up my stuffz. Got a frigate and squadron and a small base. Think i'll go to town on making a proper base later. Already got a paradise planet with a placeholder base on it.

Overall, good game, one i hope to enjoy for a while.

Oh, about the community, seems generally good, but some grade A morons in it (as with any community). Favourite one, someone complaining about the grind... in a game that offers creative mode.

Big surprise when i got to the Anomoly and saw other players, despite playing in solo. Saw a nice ship, thought "Ohhh, i'll have that", only to realize its a player ship. Been used to yoinking any ship that took my fancy.

Anyway, got myself a nice Solar, i don't think i'll ever get tired of the animations on it.

There's no pleasing everyone.
I read lots of complaints about it being procedural, go figure. 😂

My favourite activity is ship hunting, trying to find my favourite design for a ship.

I pre ordered No Man's Sky on PS4 back when ED was not even announced for PS4. There was a lack of stability in them days. I once had six crashes in one play session. Even through that I was still enjoying the game. Especially hunting crashed ships.

Once ED came out I switched to that and put 1200 hours into it,(before distance world's 2) but I continued to try out each update for NMS and in recent times I've gone back to it.

Exactly. It's not the same, but it does scratch some of the same itch for me. Out there, exploring, finding stuff, doing things.

On that note, since I got my Steam Deck, I have been trying bunches of different games I haven't played in a while, like Halo, Mass Effect, etc, and Elite. Yeah, I actually haven't played Elite in quite some time. And lo and behold, it runs pretty good. Both normal and Odyssey runs great, in highest graphic settings even, so that's really cool. It didn't run well on my desktop (that stopped working two weeks ago), so now I can play ED again (if I feel like it).

If someone complains about grind in NMS, it's because they haven't found the shortcuts. The grind is only in the early game, and it's not that bad even then, but as soon as you get a freighter and plants and some other things to help you, suddenly you grow, make, sell, buy, and refine, or even just use your exocrafts to do faster mining. The only thing that still take a lot of work is the buried tech, but other than that, there are ways to speed up mostly everything.

Yup. The Anomaly/Nexus is a multiplayer meeting place. You can turn that off if you want to in the setting. Default is on.

I think the look amazing, really great, but I don't like them in first person view and combat. Too restricted view because of the sails, but then again, they are good looking ships so who cars. :D

I'm preferring flying in third person because of the arcade mode fighting style. I wouldn't like it in ED, but third person for an arcade shooter works better for me.

Well since consolegate I've put in 700+ hrs into NMS . Done the last expedition and I don't really want for stuff . I'm still amazed at some of the planetary views , the storm clouds gathering it getting darker the whole atmosphere brings a wow . And I'm constantly wowed .

And Hello Games delivers again!!!
Endurance is an update I've been hoping for for a long time, some attention to the fleet you own.
The new Freighter stuff is awesome, I already redecorated my whole interior!
Only problem is getting the Dream Aerial, I have sent out more then two dozen Frigate expeditions but still haven't gotten the blueprint yet.
NMS just keeps getting bigger and better, lovin' it.

So, enjoying the quest for Artemis.... but might have hit a bug. Not sure yet. Will see.

Main gripe so far, if i fill out a squadron, but i see a ship/pilot i like, i can't push one of the existing squadron members out. I have to go, kick someone out, then return, wait, pray for RNG, and then hire the guy i want.

Its not a biggie, but a change i'd like to see.

Despite the bug i'm currently facing with the quest, so far it seems fairly resilient to me doing things it doesn't expect. For example, giving me an upgrade that i can't actually receive because my inventory is full, so i never get the upgrade, but the quest continues. So i'm hoping tomorrow i log in, and things can continue. However, i've seen bug reports on reddit that this quest is currently bugged, so may have it wait for a fix.

Make sure you always have some space in your inventory, you can get all sorts of useful or valuable stuff all the time, and very often unexpected!
In the beginning some random guy in the Nexus gave me some AI Valves worth 50 million a piece, a nice headstart.
Now I'm handing them out lol.

Wise advice, gratefully received.... after it happened :D
