The Open v Solo v Groups thread

No, we are merely suggesting a change. The gank-intolerant however constantly ask for the game to be changed to accommodate their special needs, to the detriment of players like me who enjoy open mode the way it is.
How would the addition of an Open-PvE game mode affect existing gameplay?

Because I value my time, and because I think those kind of attackers break my immersion, and are basically errors in universe. And lets be truthfull, it does not actually need great skill when flying with fully tanked up behemoth ship...
Its no more than being interdicted by an NPC in SC frankly. And in normal space a player is much more fun than NPCs flying shoeboxes.

I'm going to be honest, I am not going to read all the bickering back and forth; you people generate so many pages in one day, it is impossible to keep up.

I'm still going to say this: I find it absolutely baffling that, to some of you, the concept of the gankers (being the one who generate all this turmoil on a regular basis) adjusting their playstyle is so unimaginable to some, while everyone else is expected to adjust to the gankers' playstyle, or, in most cases, already has adjusted by blocking or going to solo or PG.

I know the gankers are not going to adjust, because they are Richards. But denying it could even be considered for them to be the ones to change is beyond comprehension for me.

And for the record: Someone behaves like a Nixon, I am going to block them. Don't guilt trip me into "oh you are ruining someone elses instancing". I am not, and I don't care. It's the Richards who are responsible for that.

You people really are special.

But they still have to die more often than not, and cry into a pillow because they lost a ship. I know you want the power to look into a commanders soul and try to find the evil, but its not possible until you meet them.
One need not meet a person to form an opinion on them by the choices they make, even in a game.

And btw no player ever had tried to pirate me, once I got PVP attacked when noob and had an ASP X blown out under me, and that MIGHT have been bounty hunting stuff. Most likely not as bounty was old fender bender fine I forgot to pay.

Because piracy is crap.

Most people combat log regardless of in-chat announcements you're a serious pirate, some simply low- or highwake away, and if you're doing it in CG systems you're constantly attacked by both lawful CMDRs like SPEAR and by gankers who both know a pirate vessel is no match to a dedicated PvP ship.
And on top of that the gameplay is so lousy reward-wise and makes absolutely no sense ingame. I mean, why should my 27 billion heavy CMDR rob a poor T7 pilot for 200000 credits?

Everyone, or just those who have different opinions?

Everyone. Just find your own solution & get on with it imo, complaining about getting attacked (or people blocking others) only feeds the trolls.

There are potential solutions that don't fall between two stools, they get suggested pretty often. Neither Open only or Open PvE do that.

Only complaints about being attacked then?

Not other oft repeated complaints?

If your Block list is longer than your friends list you know there's something wrong with Open, come on even you cant condone some of the idiots pad blocking?

O7

I can't condone station authorities/traffic control that would allow someone to tie up traffic on a space station. This is a problem with the game's response to character behavior, not a problem with player behavior.

I do understand the desire to block or mode switch in these situations, and resent that the game incentivizes these things...because the solution has always been clear.

I am not, and I don't care. It's the Richards who are responsible for that.

They can't force you to block them, nor to ignore the consequences of doing so. That's always on you. You don't need to care, but if you ever exclude anyone from an instance my CMDR is in, you're more harmful to my game than any number of gank attempts could ever be. And whatever your intent is doesn't change that.

Well considering how easy it is to gank evade with proper ship, piracy is kind of dead in the water. Even without combat logging. But if you do make it a lot harder way more players would really get fed up of ganker attacks... so what ever dev does it is going to irritate people. And sadly those playing legit pirate rp get short straw.

I've never been successfully pirated, met quite a few Code members back in the day & ended up siding with them for some BGS stuff because they were interesting ;)

I think a lot of players got blown up when they were new to the game, I think it's a useful, humbling moment in the progression stage to realise there are players with superior skill and / or equipment out there. Some decide to avoid them, some to learn to deal with it.

No, it is not.

Unless some ganker comes over to your system, pushes you aside, and starts blocking people, who ever you block is on you.

As I said, you cannot guilt trip me into that.

I don't believe in guilt. I do, however, know why I play in Open, and it's sure as hell not so you can tell me who I can and cannot play with.

If you are a bum, you are out of my instance. Want to instance with Morbad while he is in my instance? Obey Wheaton's Law.

Problem is that everyone has their own interpretation of 'Wheaton's Law'. I'm just pointing out that yours violates mine.
