I would suggest just set the sysmap numbered sector image to semi-transparent and overlay it onto the Raxxla icon & that will help us to decide. I suspect no rotation is required.
Yes it alligns pretty well. But you can expand or contract the image, but which is the correct alignment. The 3 arcs, the inner hexagon or the outer hexagon.

Currently at work so cant really post more than this.

I think the outer haxagon-that should allow us to better understand how the sectors in the sysmap relate to the positional jumps/asteroid clusters/green glow locations.

There are advantages to being retired. Not least that being woken up by the cat crying at the bedroom door at 04:30 doesn't result in me biting off the heads of nearby colleagues.
But I still have RL stuff to do unfortunately!!....

Ah, no ... I've been lazy in my combat rank effort so am only 'Master' at the moment. However I've done plenty of Wing assassination missions solo in my Vette but won't help here if I can’t get the mission in the first place!

This is certainly something FDev could track as a subtle test of skill discretely administered, and hence a lock out progress towards an Invite for TDW.

Has anyone received this mission type from TDW in another system?

Edit: - Re-read the message, it's trade rank which I am Elite in... so we'll see.

/Ra

Well nothing happened when I delivered the fish (as expected as I didn't have a mission), but TDW is pretty keen to get me do to stuff, got another mission almost straight away? I thought these were rare, or perhaps I've stumbled upon a trigger sequence which I'll verify over the coming week?

Unfortunately, delivering the HE suites lead to just a successful mission completion ... ah well, I'll keep plugging away on this line of investigation whilst you others explore the strange green glow.

Perhaps a small rotation will still be required, but we can define this as an acceptable inaccuracy. I superimposed your image, the Raxxla logo, and my division by sector, which coincides with the number of dashed lines. This is an amazing coincidence! I am sure that this theory is the most working at the moment, especially based on the presence of a green glow in the game! Your video is the most important piece of evidence.

Not just my videos! now we're getting more evidence in something interesting seems to be apparent.
SparklePaws vivid glow: sector 29 above belt, Sol 1446 ls, Heading to Sol, direction to light source: above left aft
SparklePaws weak glow: sector 10 below belt, Sol 1325 ls, Sol to Right heading towards left of BLoop, light source righ & aft
Clixer weak glow: sector 15 but thought he was up near 1 (Jupiter nearerest planet!) & asteroid cluster showing, Sol 1501 ls, heading to Sol Magellanic Clous below ship, light source aft.

Now Clixer had altered hud lighting (Purple theme) & this didn't affect appearance of the green glow, which showed at same time as an asterid cluster. SparklePaws one video showed glow fairly soon after losing a cluster.

I'm beginning to think there perhaps is an RNG factor involved here linking appearance of an asterouid cluster to a green glow. Need more evidence!

Created some simple templates for organizing encounters. Intentionally downsized for ease of use and to match up with the equally-small Raxxla logo located on the Wiki:

Rotated to appear as it does in Orrery view (top sector = 1)
actual rotation.jpg

Rotated so that the grid line properly separates the median.
organized rotation.jpg

After experimenting for a while with overlaying the Raxxla logo I ran into some alignment issues, namely that the corridors never appear to totally line up with the Orrery view regardless of it's rotation. Here are two examples:

It's probably just an artistic technique. This is the Raxxla logo, made by an artist, not an engineer. If you divide the logo into designs, it turns out that there is a circle and there is an equilateral hexagon with one center. The logo is the image of the map, not the map itself.

Welcome to the club!
Your vid is interesting -you were in sector 21 I think & I would say below the light source and it might be in front of you. Can’t read the sol distance but you were near the middle of the belt width so I’d guess around 1380 ls. Can’t see from your vid your orientation -where were the Magellanic Clouds and where was the orbit line of Jupiter?

Hi Jorki - ya distance was 1560 ls I was facing clockwise. And ya guess i will have to root around in the options to turn on sector numbers in the Orrey :) - I wonder if there is a turn on Raxxla setting in there too...

i think it would be interesting to see how it looked if (1) the sector map outer circle matched the dotted line hexagon, and (2) the dotted line matched the middle of the sectors .
Can you try those & post please for comparison?

With regards to the asteroid 'clusters'. I've found that the ring is in fact a very thin object and that you can stay in the ring (belt on left hologram) all the way from the inside edge to the outside edge with care. When you see the ring appear and disappear, its because you have intersected the thin ring. According to the orrery view, the plane of the belt is not quite in line with the ecliptic, i.e. it doesn't quite follow the plane of the planets themselves, so its hard to stay in the right plane. To repeat the experiment, find the ring at its outer most edge, and then head straight for Sol, you will find you're in the ring right up to the inner edge.

The orrery view seems to be bugged. On PC it does not update in a live way - once opened the marker doesn't move with your ship. I'm not sure this is intentional as on other platforms, I'm told it updates in real time. More significantly, as soon as you are in the belt, you position is incorrectly reported on the map. I was in (1) and then reported in (15) or thereabouts. Likewise a similar shift in other sectors. The offset seems to be consistent, though I don't have enough evidence for that yet. Your actual position doesnt changed, as evidenced by the scanner and your relation to the other bodies.

Finally, I've never gotten the green glow in the belt itself yet. I suspect I'm in the wrong sector. But having run out of fuel, and being refueled by the Search + Rescue ship (never knew that was a thing...) I had to dock, at Titan station near Saturn. On exit from the station, after a few seconds I got the green glow. I circled around the station trying to repeat it, but no luck. Normally I wouldn't have noticed it if I was primed.

yes, your position according to orrery view in the asteroid belt apparently jumps by 15 sectors when you encounter an "asteroid cluster" but then jumps back to correct position after you've passed the cluster. Seems to happen anywhere in the belt.

It looks like some of those videos can be explained by ship contacts on the radar. I think the second last (SteelQuagmire - green glow) is the most obvious: The glow starts to appear, the light coming seemingly from behind. Then a friendly ship contact appears on the radar: Behind the player and above; as the friendly contact moves away, the light also gradually disappears.
On other videos you see ship contacts roughly in the direction from which the light is coming (notice especially how the shadows in cockpit act, when the ship is rotating).

In some of the videos there are no ships on the radar at all. But seeing how the ship contact appeared in the middle of nowhere in the second last video, the glow could indeed stem from ships not visible on radar.

Very interestink!!
That first one of Spliffz is about the strongest I've seen the glow. Interestingly he was only about 1100 ls from Sol, heading away from Sol towards Jupiter, & quite a way above the plane of the belt. Light source seems to be astern.

The last one, with the external cam, is disappointing, in that I can't see any sign of an external light source that would cause this glow (although seems weak in this example).
So is it a lighting bug after all???
