I looked into the source code of the original Elite that was released. Nothing there to find about RAXXLA. Also even if there is some possibility that somehow a glitch could happened it clearly was not intentional from the programming side. That is if the released source code we got is truly the original used for the game since at some point the source was released and again taken back due the intervention of DB however some time later the source was released again. I never got my eyes on the first one so maybe RAXXLA was patched out of it. That said this source however is not the one that is used on the Amiga system. The port for Amiga was done by another company and RAXXLA might be a thing on that version.

Ahhhh, the old amiga 1200.....that's how elite started for me when I was 12 :)

Gonna try an experiment Friday Night. Hudson's Presidential vessel Starship One orbits Mars in a Capital Ship signal source. We're going to try to blow it up and see what happens. The last time Starship One blew up, it changed some history. We've given it some prods, and 2 CMDRs can't beat the zone. We expect 6 or more could probably at least retreat it if not blow it up outright. (e2a: Looks like PC and XBOX will both be represented.)

As always, questions, comments and suggestions welcome. Discord link: https://discord.gg/bbdnwdM

Afaik they don't leave wakes. But if anybody has ever retreated this one, I'm not finding it with Google.

Not done it in a while, but it used to be easy...destroy the heat vents...you can destroy the turrets/reduce the hull to 0% but it will stick around until you destroy it's heat vents.... then it slowly buggers off...

Here’s Someone doing it back in 2015...

Which wasn’t quite as exciting as we were led to believe...

I had a rental copy on the BBC and never saw Raxxla. When I got my hands on a PC copy I used XTree Pro / Gold to dig through the .exe via the hex editor, long before Frontier was a thing. While you could read all the mission text that was buried right at the back end of the file I don't recall seeing any system names.

As I understand it the systems together with the system names were procedurally generated from an 8§ bit seed. The names were constructed from a couple of 2-letter combinations. The name Raxxla was impossible to generate.

Edit: § just found this & I obviously “misremembered”!
I’m sure there was another reference to FD talking about procedural generation for Elite.
Don’t think it was this: Source: https://procedural-generation.tumblr.com/post/112509130817/elite-1984-elite-created-by-ian-bell-and-david

Yes, agreeing with you while responding to the other post because it was first. Goat soup? Interesting...

Welp, we were able to force Starship One to jump out with 2 CMDRs. Hat-tip to CMDR Eweqer. Nothing apparently happened except a mysterious "Mission Objective located" that we couldn't trace down. The ship was there when we re-entered the instance. Still planning to try it again with more people tomorrow night. Splitting the defender ships away from the Farragut worked like a charm, but the 11 defenders+fighters are a bit much for 1 CMDR to handle.

Getting 2 CMDRs into 1 instance took about as long as the fight. The Farragut didn't leave a wake.

If the mission objective was not a trader beacon thing it will either be a special black box uss that spawns a mission as soon as you scoop the black box. (note this is seperate from the scenerios thing they added with a black box data decrypt thing), or a planet side poi in system that spawns a mission (usually after scanning the data point etc at the poi). The trick is to notice the marker in the left side panel, and note down the range. Then track down the body etc that corresponds to the range. You have to get close ( handful of ls if memory serves) for it to show up. They have been known to be bugged (some point to 'crashed ship' poi inside of gas giants.)
