Community Event / Creation The Sidewinder Trophy

Ok here is a legal entry to my race unlimited class. If anyone wishes to check it please feel free. Run time 27:41 Bonus 4 minutes, for 23:41. I genuinely tried for 500 and got real close.

I make the run time 27:37 and concur on the 4 minute bonus (you absolute mad man!).
P.S. it's gratifying to see that the creator of this race is actually worse at finding tunnels than I am. :ROFLMAO:

I got lucky in my “scouting run.” It’s the classic “Buckyball Dilemma:” how much time do I spend in planning and preparation vs simply “winging it.” In a perfect world, I’d have adequate time for both, but that’s not the world I live in.

Ok Wednesdays updates, a little bit shorter due to time constraints -
We will begin with unlimited
wed un.png

We begin with a new entry from our own Alec turner with a frankly superb time well under 22 minutes which I am sure he will try to push under a frankly stupid 20 minute time.
Caelum Incola has been pushed now into second place and Sulu (Mad Man) has taken third simply by rewriting physics in the Limbo. Jspace has been pushed down to fourth and martinjameson to fifth even with his improved time. Tobias Von Brandt has come in with his first proper attempt at still under 28 minutes for sixth place now taking Sir Boundness down to seventh. Epaphus has brought in a first entry with a credible sub 30 result but still only holding ninth while fearless and his egg sandwich are now holding 10th place. Leeya Geddy has entered the fight now and having fun with it and lastly is Triplerazor with a much improved time over 3 minutes better than before.

Regulation Cobra

In regulation we have had a few new entries. Sir Boundness and jspace have not moved so the first new entry is Epaphus with a credible 33 minute entry followed by our Ozric not far behind. Tobias has now been pushed to fifth place with a new entry from Inga Stevenson bringing up the rear.

Well done and fly harder fellow pilots!

Sulu

Forgot to say, had one amusing (aka god I'm such an idiot) moment today. Took off from Ruchbach and found myself with a badly obscured jump. The same had happened yesterday so I decided to do the usual, go back, and find a route via a star that wasn't obscured (you can see this coming can't you!). It was only as I was approaching the planet that the frying pan of realisation hit me in the face. I can land anywhere on the planet. It was only my own dumb stupidity that had planted me down on the wrong side. 🤦‍♂️ So, this race has introduced a first for Buckyball I think. Plotting the route to the next system while simultaneously racing towards a planet in this one in order to pick an unobscured landing spot.
I was on the right side in my Cobra out of sheer dumb luck, and then on the wrong side[y] in the Sidey for the same reason. Now I'll pay attention!

No submittion from me at this time. I got tired of failing to find the right tunnel and pillars respectively, so I turned this morning's attempt attempt to recording the location of the correct narrow passages at various angles so I can hopefully find them without too much trouble tonight. I don't now how in the world such incorrect information got implanted in my brain, but I'm going to attempt to overwrite it now.

Human memory is quite a complicated system. There's a lot that can go awry while trying to memorize something.

The right places are relatively easy to find, it's a matter of finding the reference points best suited for you.
In my case, at the scientific installation I just need to remember the right tunnel runs along the axis of the two cylindrical structures: once you are aligned to those, there's only one other structure that's large, flat and separated from them. The tunnel is right through the centre of it.

As for Red Tunnel, it's always a matter of cylindrical structures. You'll find only two that are connected at a 90° angle between each other, the passages are in the structure connecting them.

As I said, I somehow got the wrong reference points into my brain, that would take me to the wrong location every single time. I now have pictures of both structures with helpful annotations that I'm going to be staring at occasionally when on break at work to burn them into my memory, and hopefully remove those harmful references.

And probably write "I will not look at the base of the cans, but the cube between them!" 50 times, long hand, just to be sure. :D
