Discord isn't integrated with rsi.com ... Spectrum is. Whether or not that's important to you is another matter, of course.

Just that. The idea behind Spectrum is a good one: an integrated communications package that functions equally well from within the game as from a web browser or a mobile device. It's not exactly core technology for the game to function, but it's a good idea.

I suppose there might have been easier ways to achieve the same result, such as reaching an agreement with the Discord people and providing an in-game Discord client. But an advantage (to RSI/CIG) of the completely in-house approach is that CIG/RSI can oversee and moderate what is discussed.

I'm sad they haven't included voice communication yet. That's one of those "Soon(TM)" things. As Spectrum is in Alpha, it's presumably intended for testing, not for actual use.

Downloading now - I just hope fps in the baby PTU is improved, couldn't "test" a thing last few days in 10 fps...
also - whats the biggest change in this update?

I don't know that there is anything in particular that stands out, just seems to be a host of bug fixes by the looks of things.

This one goes until the end of feb basically....so doubt it.

Hmm, unless anything makes those figures bump up, this month of February also aims to be the lowest since 2013.

I guess by now, CIG must have realized as of late they make most of its best sales on the wake of *gasp!* actual content releases... or fake dreamy demos. And not so much from ship sales alone (unless they decide to come up with a whole new series of engineering debt based on betterer hyped ships).

So what is it going to be this year CIG? Fake demos risking further loss of credibility and delays, or real content that can be used to judge actual quality? Rock and hard place hey.

Edit: Thanks Rolan, it would then seem that a concept sale (Hurricane?) is also coming this month, in addition to Valentine´s.

Yes it is. It just has children entities.
Calling them 'entities' is definitely correct enough

That said, he definitely has put at least two extra zeros to that number.
Or maybe I just don't understand armchair development again ...

I was a bit confused with my wording - my bad. :x I meant that a ship, in and of it's self, isn't just one single entity (as you point out it will have children - components, players, etc): therefore if your computer can render 100,000 "entities" that doesn't equate to 100,000 ships.

And that still leaves the networking to worry about!

EDIT: I've just read the rest of that chap/chapess's posts. My word. They're only thinking about the GPU rendering objects, seems to have no idea that they will have to exist anywhere else... [hehe]

After bit of testing in the new update PU still suffers from horrendous FPS, Star Marine and AC plays smooth tho.
Still cant access my ship from the PU console 90% of a time (checked), still getting launched in to space by my door (checked), still clipping throu the geometry when entering the ship (checkd), no faith in the big fix update soon (checked)...

Tell me do we need to download 30 Gb all over again as usual or CIG finally "fix"their patch system?

I notice the new site has no links to the old forum nor "the pledge". Its probably a good opportunity to "reset" the board getting rid of the increasingly more frequent troll and concern posts who have crept up over the last couple months. There simply is no valid or sane reason to simply throw away years of feedback and ideas in that manner. Or maybe CiG simply forgot and is sitting on that threasure of information (same as they sit on SQ42 which is almost done remember?).

There has never been a direct (or indirect for that matter) link to The Pledge from the RSI site menus once they moved away from their original pledge site and into the site we have known all these past years:

Not only the networking. Especially important in an MMO is to have everything be 100% server authoritative so that client manipulation doesn't allow for cheating. In SC's case this means that they are gonna have to do the physics and ship system simulation (i.e the flight computer stuff) on the server or people will exploit the hell out of this game.

I predict that when SC is released (in whatever minimal state), it will turn out that compromises had to be made in the netcode. The players will exploit, grief and cheat.

You guys obviously don't understand game development. Solid technical foundations are in, but incremental patching is not a part of it...

Lucky for me it only takes about an hour to download those patches, but I feel really sorry for citizens with bad internet.
