The Star Citizen Thread v5

I hate when this thread becomes the place where Defenders of the 'Verse come to test their mettle against The Warlord.

Oh well.

Its a public form. And I don't need to defend anything.

I enjoy Star Citizen. Regardless of the 7-10 common posters in this thread. Its a FUN game. and I enjoy the ships in the game thus far.

I find to be able to walk to my ship, walk around my ship, use my ship in combat and exploration, as limited as that may be right now.

Those are mostly things I cannot do in Elite Dangerous (I said MOSTLY).

Star Citizen to date, while not perfect,is fun, and I love the details in each ship I currently own. While I don't own a lot of ships, all but the Carack (exploration) is in game and flyable. And all of them are quite different, from the basics of the Avenger, to the awesomeness of the Caterpillar.

I hear all this crap about JPEG spaceships, but hey, I'm flying them now...

To expand on planetary sizes and the scale in the 'verse, there is a new thread over on reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/65xuq2/moon_and_planet_size/

And it seems no one knows what the actual ratios are going to be, except for "not 1:1" and "much smaller than you'd expect."

So?

Don't see the big deal.

It isn't a fun game. I would know, I have played it too.

Edit: And don't take my remark personally, this subforum had fair share of people who were defending SC, I'm just annoyed when they register here to specifically challenge dsmart. In my not-at-all humble opinion, it should be a thread for ED players to talk about an another space-sim, not "ask The Warlord" thread.

I don't think exploration in E:D is fun at all. I find it dull, boring and having no point. Doesn't mean that others don't like it..

And yep, I've played it too, anyone is free to look me up in ED flying my FdL as Evil_Merlin.

Didn't Genuine Roberts just make a hoo-haa about bringing every aspect of development in-house, and avoiding all dependencies on outside parties?

restructuring the company will buy him another year or two. After all BUILDING the damn thing took roughly 2 1/2 years and everybody is okay with that. That was for spreading the network and erecting dozens of shell companies. Now its the other direction....details...pfft

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but even after you typed that star citizen is still broken late and doomed.

Neither is it a game. Just a small broken techdemo.

How is a tech demo broken? Isn't the whole point of an Alpha and tech demo to find and resolve issues? Which CIG is?

Since SC isn't released yet, its not broken. Its still under development. Bugs and all.

Doomed? Says who? You?

Sorry about that, I have responded with a subjective opinion masquerading as a fact to a subjective opinion masquerading as a fact (goddamit, I'm cranky).

I've always been quite clear that its MY opinion that SC is fun. Because I do have fun with it. A lot. Especially the larger ships.

Just like my opinion that exploration in Elite is horrid.

Opinions, by definition, are not facts.

Just one problem: “fun” is a worthless description. It tells us nothing about the game. At best, it tells us something about you, but that's about it, and not even that is guaranteed.

I find to be able to walk to my ship, walk around my ship, use my ship in combat and exploration, as limited as that may be right now.

Of the (two) things you can do that distinguish SC from every other game in the genre, how much actual gameplay is there to those bits? What is it about that part of the game that is compelling and that makes it worth-while over something that's actually complete and functioning?

Star Citizen to date, while not perfect,is fun, and I love the details in each ship I currently own.
Again, “fun” is not a useful description. What is it about it that you actually like? Is it just the visuals?

I hear all this crap about JPEG spaceships, but hey, I'm flying them now.
Not many of them, and not in any meaningful way since so little actual gameplay is available. That's why you keep hearing about the JPEGs.

So?

Don't see the big deal.
So it's not the massive, realistic, fidelitous, never-been-done-before, simulated universe that Chris has been selling all this time. That's the big deal: the product they've sold to is not the product they're delivering.

Still under development, the bunker genuine Roberts hind in, Skyrim 7 years, GTA 5 something something 6-7 years, SC still in Alpha and still a buggy mess.

Can we have a 3.0 June release sweepstake?

I'm going with fortnight delay, cringingly bad live stream, historical rewrite of what was promised to be delivered and how the whole game was supposed to be arcadey.

I still can't believe the backers let them get away with this 3.0 lie.

There are plenty of flying ships in Star Citizen. And more are released with each patch to date. People claimed we would never see the Star Farer. Its in game, in two forms. People claimed we would never see the Caterpillar. Now in game and flyable.

Fun is a perfect descriptor for a game. Else why bother? Isn't that the point of a game? Fun?

What is it that I actually like? The high quality graphics, being able to walk thru your ship, being able to fight on foot in your ship and being able to group easily with others and fight multi-crew or multi-ship (at something i find better even in this Alpha than i do with 2.3 in ED).

I'm going with last minute (but technically not late) release of a patch with a lot of the major technical systems and content missing. And bugs. Dear god, the bugs.
Awful live stream's a given. As is some sort of massive ship sale.
