Well thats how rational person think......but not the "hardcore"SC fans....I bet they will be more then happy to see few more demos, new commercials and some hype videos before the new year....that could feed them untill next gamescom....citizencon....etc...2018....

Well the hardcore SC fans are a minority of gamers, and they have already stumped up a lot in pre-orders.

Admittedly you need an actual product that's close to release (yes, yes, I'm aware that they're selling access for loads of real money) for the marketing department to get busy with on other channels.

Making in-engine movies is one thing but it isn't real marketing. You need to work out who your consumer base actually is, work out a media strategy along with the launch timeline to target that audience, engage PR, revamp the website (you want something clean), loads of things like that, and then ramp up towards launch. Getting control of the narrative is also pretty important as the whole NMS fandango has demonstrated.

Pretty much everything that I've seen on the marketing/PR front from CIG has been a car crash, to be honest!

I think CitizenCon will show a trailer of SQ42 and a more clear road map for it. I think they'll show other aspects of 3.0 like cargo or trading. I think the latest build of 3.0 will be playable to the attendants (I will be one of them).

I think the December live stream will do a recap of what was accomplished and the roadmap for 2017. I think if SQ42 hasn't been released yet it will either be during that live stream or an announcement will be made that they had to delay it for x months. I think 3.0 will definitely be released during the live stream, if not before.

I don't foresee many of the critics changing their stances though.

I may well change my stance if 3.0 is released as advertised (and there's a lot to that statement) in December of 2017. The reason for this is it would be the first time CIG has really delivered on a promise in a reliable fashion, and that would indicate a change in the weather. The reason I doubt this will happen is because there's a lot in that "as advertised" thing there, and also they promised something very similar for Star Marine in 2015. I am curious why you think this will turn out differently from Star Marine.

Not true, they showcased the first glimpses of 2.0 Crusader Universe in Gamescom 2015, they followed it up in Citizencon 2015 and then released it to the backers December 2015.

This was the last Citizencon Shows:

Star Citizen:

Squadron42:

What we will get in this new Citizencon will most likely be a enhanced version of 3.0 with more features and probably a look into professions since the Gamescom demo was focused on fighting. (crosses fingers)

They will also showcase a lot of Squadron 42 (Idris, Bengal) Most likely specify the exact date of release.

Pretty sure 2.5 or whatever now is a whole lot buggier than that 2015 demonstration made it look. That's not as advertised.

This is why I say it's a hard thing to accomplish.

The fact that it's played by a lot more people with completely different hardware configurations and adding to that the networking problems it's easier to understand why.

It's also with a lot more content now than what it was presented with at those shows, if you just focus on the bugs yes it's seems a helpless experience, but that's expected as they say optimization is one of the last tasks done in games, add to that the bug fixing.

I don't know if people remember but when 2.0 out to just a couple of people, streamers and such the playtime was around 5-10 minutes before a crash. Now we have hour's long of continuous footage without a crash.

heres my guesses based on previous years
Start with Sandi sob talk about anonymous hate attacks. Ben pushes a empty cake rack to stage. Erin then interrupts and talks about the immersion of the new network infrastructure that the magic germans have made. Ben slips out that he has been playing COD:IW for whole week. Chris showcases this years sq42 mocap

Tour around arc corp showcasing some npc's glitching in walls and railings.
then they showcase some star marine with eta of 3 weeks.
Then they will go to baby PU and showcase some Big benny vending machine action.
Finally everything culminates to reveal of Planetary landing module (it gets cancelled 3 years later) ,
sq42 part 1/25 is postponed till january 2017 (will release at 2018. alpha testing of sq42 part 1 starts at summer 2017)
new bishop trailer releases, with tom cruise playing as bishop

Start with Sandi sob talk Unfortunately ben is recovering from complications that came with obesity :(
then they showcase some star marine with eta of unknown. (no eta was made but they did showcase 3 seconds of star marine)
Then they will go to baby PU and showcase some npc's it is unclear if it was live or pre-recordet)
Finally everything culminates to reveal of Planetary landing module (it gets cancelled 3 years later) ,
sq42 part 1/25 is postponed till january 2017 (will release at 2018. alpha testing of sq42 part 1 starts at summer 2017) (sq42 wasnt talked at all, star marine threatment?)

Overall im quite happy with my predictions even when half of those went wrong.

If anything, this reinforces my point. On delivery, the experience was nothing like advertised, and the content to come in later patches wasn't there yet.

Note that I don't expect CIG to show an unreasonably buggy game at Gamescom - that would be stupid and counterproductive for them. I *do* want them to deliver when they say "this is what's coming to you in December", and what they showed in Gamescom 2015 is not what they delivered in December. I don't want an unreasonably buggy presentation, I want the reasonably unbuggy delivery that their presentation promises.

More propaganda....especially "like" when he said in that video:"Top aurora pilot can easily win over the average super-hornet pilot every time"...that is such a lie.....Pilot skills in lame FM as it is in SC are basically just twitch-reflex...

It's very possible and it happens but I would never call it a "easy win".

I was more interested in how larger ships will potentially be increasing by up to 300% post release and the advantage that gives people who buy one before then.
There was also the talk of how you'll be rewarded for having a larger ship, better missions etc right off the bat.
I can't say I like the idea of creating so much disparity between players so early into the game's life.

What road map, It's to be released in 2016 remember?

EDIT: Beta is adding functionality after core is pretty much locked down.
Incorrect. An alpha is where the programmers assemble their WIP code to do spot checks on functionality as they add features. Once all planned features from the design doc are implemented and working (according to the programmers) it becomes a Beta for others to test, validate and either find bugs or accept. You only add functionality to an alpha build. If you are putting in additional things to a beta, that is typically called feature creep and is a very bad thing in and of itself.

From what I've read, the current alpha build of SC only has 10% of the promised content from the KS campaign. How they have the gumption to put a v3.0 label on such an incomplete alpha is beyond me.

I know this is a technicality but that was for 2.0 which really wasn't all that buggy when it released to live. And saying 2.5 is buggy doesn't really make a whole lot of sense since it's still in the PTU. If it was on the live servers, you would have a point.

You've read from wrong sources I'm afraid. Alpha is not about "promised content" but about putting the systems in place to allow for the game mechanics that they need to accomplish for their game to be played as they want it to be played.

They don't need to be 100 systems wide when they can add all the core mechanics in one system and make it as deep gameplay experience as possible. After one system is in place the rest is copy+paste the mechanics and add new cosmetic design with their modular builds and give it some differentiation through clever art and design.

Presentations are them saying showcasing the tech working, showing that they have the foundations done and how they used them, technological and design showcase, not that it's ready for release. You think the COD game was finished when they showcased that "gameplay" trailer? Why isn't it out yet? Why arent they releasing it now before Battlefield 1 release and are being late to the party by releasing it only in November?

It crashed once per minute, how's that not buggy?

You know, it would help if when you tried to say that people had misunderstood something, you didn't then go on to say exactly the same thing they did…

So, no, he did not read from the wrong sources. Beta is not for adding functionality. Beta is for testing functionality and possibly adding content (and polish) that makes use of that functionality.

I agree totally....and by saying things that larger&rare ships it´s going to cost 300% or more on post release...it´s just like opening door for more grey market traders...just great....
