It's a damage decal system with transparency. Well… transparency with little regard as to what you should actually see on the other side. Also with little regard for actual illumination, which makes the the indentations point the wrong way.Surely that video is just a damage decal system? ED has the same thing.

I suspect they don't or any normal person would have finished cutting that section off.The guy should have showcased how bits falls off from ship and he should have done same thing with maneuver thruster.
