"What's there to win? I'm going to pretend destroying other players doesn't somehow count and that I have absolutely no advantages over a starter ship... and then say something about needing a crew even though none of that has been implemented or even designed. Just like my jpeg."

"I'm another guy and I'm going to argue that the only real pay2win is paying for an advantage you can't earn in-game because that somehow makes this all sound more palatable if you squint!"

"I'm a third guy with some qualms about it but I won't say anything because I'm scared of being yelled at by those other guys."

"I'm a fourth guy with a really long fantasy about the exciting space life I'm going to lead several years from now if this is ever actually made! My fantasy will be completely impossible to fulfill, but you have to be in a pretty weird place to give Chris Roberts $750 in 2016, soooo..."

The RSI forums, folks. Let's give 'em a big hand.

I'd like to smack them around the face with a big hand, see if I can wake them up from this dream they're all having in la la land.

Without a Polaris, and an Idris, your Org will get pointed to and laughed at by all the real Orgs that have Polarises and Idrises :D

So...your saying I need to nest my Polaris inside my Idris, and from there jam that ham sandwich into a javelin? Wonder if that would crash the servers or open a black hole....

Well CIG envision..... <waves hands> urm, gameplay features further down the line that will absolutely require <waves hands> emergent and compelling <waves hands> in a high fidelity environment that nobody else can provide!

I feel sorry for all the borderline whales that are busting their wallets already and have somehow managed to get funds together for Citcon. Imagine knowing that someone basically just demanded $750.00 from you to keep up with the Joneses..

Their credit cards are in mortal danger. The peer pressure to get one of these 7 hundred and fifty dollar submarine/missile/imaginary spaceship things - that may never see the light of day will be irresistible.

But someone has to fund Chris and Sandi's ongoing first class luxury jamboree..

Sure, it's not going to be perfect and free of all latency or drawbacks. But you can come really close, give Bridge Crew or Bigscreen a try before claiming this has no relation to your point -- it's a compelling experience when done right and real life interfering doesn't really impact it to the point of making it worthless. Obviously nobody is going to have the insane Firefly life experience they picture having in Star Citizen, but a couple hours with friends on an Anaconda or Trek-type-ship on a sunday night? Totally doable, even with instancing grumbles. A crew of people serving a digital big spender for weeks/months? I reaaaally doubt it.

Sure. Manning turrets? That's garbage. Golf swing sensors? Crap. Which makes me appreciate Frontier adding ship launched fighters FIRST -- much more fun than a turret and a great way to make additional crew a little more dynamic. I don't mind a little boredom as a backdrop for chat punctuated by hectic SLF combat, if they come up with a few other aspects to it -- great. Let's see where else they go with 2.3, but multicrew was really the main feature I was excited about for Horizons... just for the VR. With the right friends, it'll add some nice value to the package. It won't appeal or apply to a huge chunk of the Elite playerbase, of course -- but what does?

I doubt SC will manage a fun implementation of it except for the incredibly persistent and borderline masochistic. VR is off the table.

I know people like me are few and far between... but I used to play Rise of Flight- which included a lot of "boring" flying- a lot of "boring" sitting in a turret, and a long of "boring" Multicrew.

I can tell you guys- if Multicrew in Elite is half as "Boring" as Rise of Flight I'd be down to it every night of the week. Point is, rarely it works with LFG guys- you need to know your CMDR or the other crewmembers, but sometimes it just works fine.

Just stating that I think Rise of Flight is an excellent game and is in my 'favorites' section of my steam library, the only thing I don't like about it is the lewis gun reload animation, which while functional and perfectly adequate, I feel they could do a little more on it. :) That feeling on the first flight, fighting with a strong crosswind on takeoff and spotting your first jerry though, it's sublime. :)

I have multicrewed many Aurora's in the mvp-SC-PU-pre-alpha-techdemo, admittedly I never had to give the pilots orders or do anything other than jump out of the bed and shoot the hapless daydreaming commando in the back of the head (about 20 headshots to kill an commando apparently) as he exited my newly aquired craft, which I then used to "test" the fragility of other ships as they also haplessly lurched around desperately trying to find the button combination for "maximum armour" or "take off". Sometimes a mate of mine would multicrew their ships from the outside by adorning himself as a hood ornament, a saluting soldier to be precise, this awestruck the pilots so much they just sat there on the landing pad in amazment with their engines blasting away to no avail.

To be serious, CIG's idea of multicrewing ships is a bit like when two kids decide to play pretend 'spaceship' in a large cardboard box with ship controls scrawled all over the inside in magic marker and in CIG's version the family dog has already had an 'accident' in it and the corners are held together with parcel tape. I lied, I can't actually take anything to do with SC seriously anymore. :D

Classic CIG - 80 odd posts into the I'm a Citizen video thread...

Additional Note: Don't put music in your video. We'll do that. =)

In the end I think the point I never manage to get across is that I've tried multicrew and it works. AS LONG AS you know the other guys and all have a common goal. Also more than 3 people in a airframe - in a game- is pointless.

I got the feeling that most of the people worried about the implementation of Multicrew may have never tried it.

Oh absolutely, a well designed multicrew system is in itself a fun thing to participate in and definitely something for the clan/group of mates to enjoy. That being said, I have a feeling that the interior activities of these 'cap ships' in SC will bear an uncanny reasemblance to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail version of Camelot. :)

Yeah, this is what I don't get.

I'm imagining a whole lot of Captain Cartman types - the ship owners - spending their lives shouting "respect mah authoritah" to strangers who really don't care.

Will see how sales goes...there are also a lot of topics in SC forums about "Golf swing" and other possible "dumbed down" gameplay...
Probably at this point its a vocal minority, so I predict still SC sales will be good after 3.0 possible release...

Multicrew is clearly something similar to Wings in ED. You will have to get matched with people you know and that's only reasonably way to play it.

SC Alpha 3.0 is at least six months away though.

Can people still "melt" stuff? If so I imagine some may do that before chucking more cash on the fire..

Don't you worry, CIG will introduce revolutionary new NPCs as crew members to serve Idris commander's wims.

Yeah it will be as tragic as it sounds.

I thought that the whole point was that if you owned a big ship you get to boss other players around, not crappy NPCs.

Or do I not understand the Star Citizen meta?
