Time to nerf exploration!!

No one cares about credits. They're pretty much worthless in the game. :p

Ever said no one who doesn't have money. Or was it sarcasm? Can't tell right now, my brain is still waking up.
Good for you that those hypothetical changes wouldn't affect you. Probably because you are secured in that area. I wonder - would you be equally forgiving in a field that is essential to your play style? It's funny how people are forgiving in a matters that doesn't affect them.

Earning nerf is fine, says multi millionaire/billionaire
City wide 30 speed limit zone is fine, says politician who uses gov limousine with police escort
The most zealous pro-life are people long past their reproductive cycle

Totally serious by the way. There's no risk for the reward, it is totally unbalanced. A new starter could upgrade their FSD on their first day, jump onto R2R and within the night they have a few hundred mil and they're almost at Elite rank for exploration. Compared to the previously nerfed missions where you had to at least have a grasp on game mechanics this R2R exploit is game-breaking.

Please explain why you think this is an exploit? FYI i haven't done it. I've looked at it and thought cool but why do that when there are 99.9% of the systems/planets unexplored. All this is is someone spent the time to spreadsheet a loop and put it out there. People on these forums really need to look up and understand what an exploit is. This is part of game play. And I'd feel sorry for a brand new player that tried to do this. Rebuy and rage quit. And why does everyone keep saying risk vs reward that isnt the only thing. Theres time vs reward too. Which people keep forgetting. Also the risk is also getting back safely to hand over the data. If you get a rebuy screen you lose everything. All those hours, days or weeks spent out there for nothing if you dont make it back. Cmdrs please start concentrating on your own game instead of what other people are doing. Theres no right or wrong way to play elite.

I can get along just fine doing whatever I feel like in the game other than the PVP meta (which is somewhat of a different game in its own way) and Thargoid hunting in something like an A rated, non-Engineered Cobra Mk III.

The only real use of credits seems to be to throw them away, and I foolishly play the game more as a survivalist, so I don't have much opportunity to make use of them.

...

Edit: But yes, the post was a bit of an exaggeration of sorts and somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Just playing along with the premise of the OP in my own way. ;)

Bow down the the almighty, meaningless credit. :p In the meantime, I have other things to contend with and hope for from the game.

actually, ive spent most of my time exploring in this game and the one thing that gets annoying is when people complain, pre passenger missions and 2.1 upgrades it was bad, and in comparison to a few runs out killing pirates it is bad, but explorers dont do it for the money, they do it to get thier name on systems, they are less bothered about credits that anyone who goes for trade or combat .... Actually, look at R4nger (i think thats his name) explored the circumference of the galaxy in a sidewinder, and didnt scan, so basically he just expplored to say he had done it, would still be doing it now if he had of scanned the first star in every system ...

Cannot tie everyone with the same brush

That's fair, but you missed the second part of my post. I don't go exploring to make credits; I go exploring to play the game.

If they want to nerf the run or something, or have reduced payouts for frequently scanned bodies, I'm fine with that. Won't really affect me either way. Making credits is nearly meaningless to me at this point in my progression of playing the game, and I'm sure most who have been playing as long as I have have way more credits.

But anyway, thanks for the info and the additional point of view. [up]

Oh, I do agree with you.

It's just kind of interesting, in an abstract way, to look at the R2R, just to see what exploration can yield - in that "distilled" form, at least.
By way of analogy, though, it's a bit like eating raw Jalapeno peppers - it might be an interesting experience in it's own right but it's not going to tell you much about how a burrito tastes.

I guess the OP's anology is surprisingly apt though.
Nerfing exploration, in general, on the basis that the R2R is profitable is kind of like completely removing passenger missions or skimmer missions just because they can be overly profitable under certain conditions too. [uhh]

There is plenty of risk to exploring, it's just not obvious. Months of exploration data can (as has been proven more than once so far this week) can be lost with a simple miscalculation or a momentary lapse in concentration. Their ships, just like ships set up for cargo running aren't set up for combat so tend to be an easy target for npc's & players alike in or near the bubble...

Also, unlike the skimmer exploit, an explorer is not likely to be board flipping to cheat the system into giving them the most ideal missions. they aren't relogging at skimmer sites to quickly refresh the skimmers etc etc etc.

Nerf credits completely. No more credits for anything. Then everything will be equal. [cry]

While I don't particularly need credits in the game, some newer players might want to get some of the larger ships. Why? Well, I couldn't really say, but at least it's something to do.

More usually referred to as "income tax". :p

For me, this is actually somewhat of a surprisingly accurate analogy. I play the game as a survivalist, so I'm likely more self-sufficient, sort of like indigenous peoples living off the land and sea instead of living in reservations or work colonies. Something, something, teach a man to fish, something, something, death, and taxes. ;)

I'm not proposing any nerfs; I'm saying that I avoid doing exploits or gold rushes.

Yes, I do have quite a stockpile of credits, but it's not because I earn them quickly. I earn way less than 1 million credits per hour.

I have credits because I have no need to spend them. I bought my AspX a couple of years ago and fully fitted it with Grade-A and D modules, so I don't need any (non-engineered) upgrades. I have a scoop, so I don't buy fuel. I have no weapons, so I don't buy ammo. I hardly ever lose a ship, so there's no rebuy either. My biggest expense is a few 10s of thousands to refurb my hull a few times a year.

So far the nerf gun has been taken to cargo delivery, war massacres, pirate massacres, passenger missions and almost every other way to make a decent amount of credits.

It is now time to nerf exploration to fetch it more in line with the terrible rewards for everything else. Especially the Road to Riches, it's pretty stupid that humanity keeps paying for the same scans of the same systems, it makes no sense whatsoever.

I propose the value of every stellar body be brought to 25% of what it is currently, explorers have had it so easy lately it's almost an exploit.

I propose that you only get paid for previously unscanned bodies. And let me subscribe to the full (and expanding) Universal Cartographics catalogue.

Outside of the PVP meta, you can potentially get along equally well doing combat and trade in the game too. You just have to be competent enough and smart about it (which comes with playing the game) and pick your battles, as they say.

I think the idea is that Commanders can pick and choose where the data goes even though the Pilots Federation as a whole already knows of it.

I'd be fine with lower profits from previously scanned bodies. I don't think it would work very well with them being worth nothing though, at least not without an exploration overhaul, which I don't see happening any time soon.

Reminds me of something I suggested a while ago. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...of-cartographic-data-be-market-scarcity-based

Good point.

When I'm in the bubble, I sometimes do trading CGs in my Type-9. Originally, I did them to earn credits to buy the Type-9, but these days I really only do them for the challenge of being in top 10%. That seems to be one of the few things that brings out my competitive side.

Do you want some cheese to go with that whine?
