Time to nerf exploration!!

Road to riches is what? 20-25 million an hour? An A-rated conda is close to 2 billion... so you're looking at a hundred hours, and the road would end well before you make the 2 billion anyway... not to mention that playing it safe will increase your time-frame, and you need a little setup to make it work.

The skimmer exploit could give you an a-rated conda using a sidewinder (the first few rounds would by you the missile pods), and you could do it a single sitting and with no risk. I mean, if it was left in the game you might as well just do away with ship purchasing mechanics altogether.

An A-Rated Anaconda is no where near 2 billion credits, more like 500m credits which again can be made in a single day if you know what do to, and you can get it even cheaper if you go to a Li Yong-Rui controlled system.

I won't say how much I made one day but it was enough to buy a A-Rated Corvette, and that was less than 1 billion credits and it didn't involve any of these things that people call exploits, when actually they are just using the games mechanics.

So far the nerf gun has been taken to cargo delivery, war massacres, pirate massacres, passenger missions and almost every other way to make a decent amount of credits.

It is now time to nerf exploration to fetch it more in line with the terrible rewards for everything else. Especially the Road to Riches, it's pretty stupid that humanity keeps paying for the same scans of the same systems, it makes no sense whatsoever.

I propose the value of every stellar body be brought to 25% of what it is currently, explorers have had it so easy lately it's almost an exploit.

I made 128,432,318 credits from the last passenger mission I took, and boy did I feel guilty as hell about making that kind of money and getting my name on all those systems while my fellow commanders were slaving away for a pittance in the Bubble, so yeah, bring the nerf bat FD and ease this poor sinner's conscience.

No matter the view on the money-grind, a new account shouldn't be able to buy an A-rated anaconda after 5-6 hours of playing. There is saying that the money-grind should be either faster, a bit more engaging or both - but there also needs to be a sense of accomplishment.

I doubt a new player with no prior experience could get an A rated conda in 5 to 6 hours. It would take them 5 to 6 hours to watch and read forums and youtube to figure out how to play. Lol. And it took me about 4 to 5 hrs doing smeaton in a python once allied to get enough for an A rated conda plus a couple rebuys.

Player: "Hey, I am having fun and making money doing XYZ mission"
Community: " Its an EXPLOIT!"
FDev: NERF IT! NERF IT NOW! How dare they make money in this game...
Braben: " You will GRIND! And GRIND and GRIND! No fast money for you!
End scene....Thank you

As mentioned R2R is powerful, also ED Pathfinder(this puts next system in clipboard after clicking on it) is another.
Not as OP as exploits, but makes getting to Exploration Elite a doddle now(I got there the old fashioned way).

Exactly, A friend of mine who bought the game at the same time as me has never really looked at youtube or the forums etc on how to play the game or how to make money fast and is actually still sat in a Sidewinder because he gave up on the game within the first 2 hours of playing because, it was to difficult for him to understand how to do anything in the game.

Now he is not the typical new player, because he has a short attention span etc but I have other friends who have asked me to help them to learn how to play the game and I always advise them not to go jumping on way's of making money fast to get a big ship because they need to learn the game first before jumping in to them. Some listen other don't and the ones that don't come crying when they loose everything because they didn't learn the game.

One day some people might understand that having a large credit balance doesn't mean anything, I can enjoy the game in my Corvette, Anaconda, Python or FDL just as much as I could in a Sidewinder and actually it would probably be more fun in the Sidewinder because of how careful you have to be, so all these call's for nerfs are not really doing anything other than causing people to get annoyed and fed up and potentially leave the game for one where the dev's don't listen to the nerfers.

With this exploit, it would be easy. It required no setup (missiles made it quicker, but that's about it), could reliably be done in a side-winder and carried no risk.

But that aside, I said "new account", not new player.

Well a new account who cares. The person who set up a new account or resets knows the game and its there choice if they use these methods and has nothing to do with anybody else. If they use these methods then complain about how quick it was then they are an idiot and ruined their own game. Why does everyone keep getting upset by what other people do. Focus on your own darn game and not what others do. Who cares if someone can get into a corvette in a week. It doesn't affect my game, my galaxy. I don't give a s#!t if someone makes more credits or gets into a conda quickly that their choice. This game is about your own choices and what you want to do whether its slow or fast who cares.

Cannot rep you again yet but this is spot on!

To many people pay attention to how others play the game and not enough on how they play it themselves and then complain that the other player is not playing the same way that they do.

I wonder if these same people complain about others driving different car's, living in bigger or smaller houses or earning more/less money in real life as well.

Thank you.
I remember when I first started playing this game when it was on xbox preview program i went to youtube and google to find out HOW to play the game. I came across these forums and back then everyone was friendly and helpful and there was none of this whinging and whining and constant complaining of nerf this or nerf that or crying about what others did in the game. It was a place to come for help and tell your stories. I remember there was one cmdr that wrote a role play episodes about his exploration in the black. It was awesome to come here a read. It went on for months. These days these forums are full of toxic people with just complaints and crying or blaming. I'm really starting to not want to come back to these forums anymore. And that's sad compared to what it was like and to all those nice and helpful, friendly cmdrs back then.

Nooooooooooooooooo! ;-)

It pays too little!

I can make much more money (and exploration rank) hauling passengers for 20 minutes than I can in an hour spent on the road to riches :-(

The R2R is not exploration though, it’s flying a preset already explored course with strategic targets calculated to maximize credits per hour. Actual exploration earns far, far less than that, and your requested nerf would negatively impact a great many people who do not currently make much in the way of credits. At least not when compared to every other way of earning credits in the game.

I offer you a challenge Darth. More of a science experiment really. Fly out 10,000 lys in any direction from the bubble, fly back to the bubble, and then sell your exploration data. Keep track of your hours played as you do this. Now calculate how many credits per hour you made on this exploration trip, then post the number here into your “nerf exploration’s payout” thread.

Then tell us with a straight face why exploration needs a nerf again.

Lol I'd love this. But he wouldn't do it because it would take to much time and prove him wrong. And if he did he'd probably lie about it anyway.
The last time I went to sag A not a direct or fast route. Round trip. It took me about 7 to 10 weeks scanning alot. And a stop past the neutron field for scanning to bump my rewards. I only made about 98mcr. It was a couple of years ago though. And in my explora asp with i think it was 31 or 32ly jump.

Getting the best ships in the game with best gear (sans engineering) for 3 hours of completely risk-free play undermines the game.

Perhaps you don't agree, but the game would be completely dead now if it was developed using your principles, as it would have had no longevity. It would be an akward arena shooter where absolutely everyone had the top setups. Which is not the case today, so your claim that "anyone can do jadda jadda" is obviously not true.

There is more to game design than your personal experience. Elite is obviously meant to be a bit slow and to carry a sensation of risk for most players. If you want to argue that rewards could have been done differently, sure I'm listening. If you want to argue that the grind should be more fun, I'm listening.

But to claim that everyone should be allowed to do some braindead activity for 3 hours and buy the biggest ship in the game would be a fairly spectular design principle for a space opera game, and to be honest... not a game I would have purchased.
