UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Not sure if it's Barnacle related but I was checking out the landable binary planets in Pleiades Sector JC-U b3-2 and every time I tried to drop out of glide in the 2?.?? 9?.?? range the game crashed (completely had to end task) and when I reloaded I was at least 20 degrees away. Tried 4 times crashed every time.

MB has said that this is caused by a bugged PoI, but not one that's related to barnacles. Check his post list.

Even a pole doesn't guarantee anything because the axis of rotation precesses, like a spinning top that wobbles. Even a slight wobble makes a big difference unless the pole star is very close.

Perhaps some form of planetary conjunction is approaching, when all the large Barnacles have the correct alignment to converge on a location?

It looks like even the random spawns have a certain set of conditions they require. They spawn near the crashed ship which will have the same general characteristics.

The most common characteristic seems to be the yellow sand other than being inside a nebula.

Barnacles, ship hulls - perhaps we're spreading their spores into every system we search?

Conspiracy theory time!
The barnacles did not cause the "Caine Massey" Anaconda to crash: instead, the ship crashed due to human error while it was seeding the planet with barnacles.
The cargo racks loaded with rare materials? Those were meant to be used as fertilizer for the barnacles. The C on the shells? A logo.
Why are they planting barnacles? Why, to do what the commanders are already doing: farm the seeds for rare materials and especially the meta-alloys.
Watch out if the stuff needed to "cure" UA-infected stations will be linked to Caine Massey as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if we wake up tomorrow in a galaxy-wide game of Zarch.

Me and another commander dropped an UA next to a Barnical and it appeared to absorb it, then grow a flower like structure, with little light blue wisps emanating from it like fire fly's! System was JC-U B32....

The Barnical was completely intact at the time... :)

Well, damn, did either of you think to record it?

Were you streaming it at the time by any chance Nats?

We randomly jumped to the polar impact crater on the moon opposite PLEIADES SECTOR JC-U B3-2 1 (because it looked purdy) and I joked to my wing "you guys will love me if there's a barnacle here"

And there IS!!!!

PLEIADES SECTOR JC-U B3-2 2

Co-ords: 49.9075 x 102.7141

We are finding SO many more! This crater is FULL of them. PM'ing the thread originator...

Huh, I read the forums but checking this thread I've just stumbled on this new development, which I didn't suspect was happening so fast. I did see a screenshot of it last night which I just assumed was fan-art. About 0.5% of the player base might know this is even happening. Most rest of us...business as usual. (until the poop hits the fan maybe) ;)

I actually hope it's not related directly to thargoids yet. Hope it's just humans messing with their tech and this brings them back somehow :)

I just had a thought come to mind.

We know Obsidian Orbital is deteriorating to the point of being shut down, and other stations are experiencing the same issues. The deterioration has been linked to the Unknown Artefacts.

I've seen a few suggestions that the meta-alloy is the answer to repairing the stations. But what if it isn't? What if this is a trap?

The Unknown Artefacts cause deterioration and force humans to abandon it. The meta-alloys are delivered to the station with the hopes that it's the key to stopping the deterioration, but instead it works alongside the Unknown Artefacts to further the deterioration, and ends up transforming the station into a Thargoid structure, thus giving the Thargoids a foothold in human-inhabited space? They'd be literally using our own station against us, and from what we know about the Thargoids, it's not much of a stretch that the level of technology required for such a feat is within their capabilities.

Organic grown technology?

This is not feeling Thargoid-like to me, but who knows.

Hmm though the Mycoid virus implies organic, although "virus" can have different meanings, I don't know.

Through this thing together.

It's just something to mull over really..

The symbol, why a symbol? The only symbols we currently have are the faction symbols.

Aye it seems to resemble Barnacle Loop (formerly known as Barnard's Loop).

But could the fact there's a symbol imply they have factions too? I mean a symbol is kinda worthless unless it's put against another symbol.

I dunno, loads of stuff to think about.

I'm tellin' you, you need to rotate that logo 90 degrees clockwise. :D

The Facepalming Panda faction.

Sure, the central structure is a Barnacle, even down to the six plates...but what of the other structures?

They have a surface like tree bark, and the placement of the pods along its surface instantly reminded me of something...

Ladies and gentlemen, I put it to you : Meta-Alloys grow from COCOA PODS!!! :D
