Update 11 Patch Notes

While it's nice to watch a jump from the carrier Command Deck, I've noticed it does have a couple of niggles.

In terms of game mechanics, a carrier doesn't move as such. A new instance is created at the destination, the players on board are moved to it, and the old one deleted.

Sounds obvious, I know. However, there are a couple of ancillary effects that this also causes:

Fleet carrier livery and layout changes are now also applied when the instance is created, rather than immediately (at least if you're the only player on board; haven't tried it with others, but I suspect it either requires everyone to leave before changing, or players that leave and rejoin will wind up in a different instance to the ones that didn't leave yet). This means that you can start a jump in the old layout but the instance created at the end will use the new layout - the ship will actually change under you as you exit hyperspace into the new instance.

The NPCs on the command deck - and elsewhere, though you can't watch those when you jump - are randomly generated on instance creation. This means they will also shapeshift on jump exit. I was watching the two on the bridge console last jump, and the bald white guy on the right console managed the impressive feat of turning into a black girl with frizzy hair.

Non-random NPCs, the shop vendors generated in the services tab of carrier management*, are not affected. This suggests that a comparatively easy fix would be to use a couple of these on the bridge, especially given that there's one who's allegedly bridge crew anyway...

*On the subject of those, please could we either have much more control over their appearance than a random re-roll, or the ability to cancel out a re-roll on exiting the screen if we'd rather just keep the one we already had?

dear fd please remove these items from the game
or make a one click sell all useless items button(not used in any modifcations\upgtrades) or a saveable tickbox for the items you want to sell or keep ta very much!
as I find I have enough rubbish to sort through without doing it in my freetime too
if you consider that entertaining gameplay then you are mistaken imo it is however just a fantastic waste of time

Not to be a "FDev advocate" but...

Perhaps, JUST PERHAPS, those goods might become important once new stuff is added to the game. For example, planetary vehicles becoming 'engineerable'. Well, that might require "Vehicle Schematic". Just a single example.

Who knows, huh? 😇

Indeed, but its showing FD prioritizing trivial things over actual content. I get some love it, but in a game that relies on heavy abstractions to gloss over things (like cargo loading, repairs etc) sitting down / buying drinks is pointless fluff.
There's so much going on in Elite presently and such a huge scope of things to add/fix/improve in the future that I would suggest that the almost equal potential for differences of priorities is likely the greatest non-coding challenge that Frontier has yet to really surmount.

I wonder if throwing it out to the community is really the only solution to deflect the inevitable frustration that x feature was chosen over y feature, that way it really is on us as players. I have a couple of ideas on how that could be implemented, which is beyond the scope of this thread, but one I will say is that it should be attached to a participation in a CG or something to keep it focused on active players.

true enough even more call for a tickbox for sellable items imo
I jus wanna sell all my :poop: in a one button hit at a bartender not sort through it every frakin time when just once is all a good UI would need...………………….
it has been carefully and purposefully crafted to waste time it seems
that I personally don't think is any fun anymore after the 50th repeat sale
woops sorry I forgot without repeat gameplay this would be an extremely short game.

All items are sellable, so how would the game know what it is you want to keep/offload?

And remember, Faction Associates were completely useless in-game until they weren't.

I suspect throwing it out to the community would go wrong in ways beyond our imagination, and increase frustration even more.

I'm glad they added little details like sitting down etc, because it's something that adds to the parts of the game I already interact with. I don't concern myself much about them spending time on that and not something like Powerplay because I don't have much interest in that part of the game.
But on reflection, I suppose that's the point. If they updated mechanics like Powerplay to make it more engaging, perhaps I WOULD get more involved in it, I WOULD care about its direction and future updates.

If I knew about it.

I think the problem is even when they do good stuff, they're terrible at discoverability. Players on the other hand are creatures of habit and stick to what they know even when they don't like it. Not entirely unjustified when so many new mechanics don't quite work, so no one does them, but then no more dev time is invested into them and another vicious cycle begins.
People still send newbies to Dav's hope for manufactured materials because they don't know about HGE's and those that do just relog on the first one they find then trade for what they want instead of seeking out what they need. Installations and megaships have some (in my opinion) more engaging combat than CNB's or RES sites, but I ignored them for years and it feels like few other people know about them either.

But a new chair in a hub that you're already using? Trivial as it is, that's hard to miss.

I could go on but I've had to edit out excessive rambling from this post twice now and it's still kinda long, hopefully my point is still intact.

Oh yeah, and bots for CQC please, I've never tried it but I'd kinda like to.

I understand what you're saying and I agree there's definitely some or more potential for things to go wrong, though I'm thinking more of a limited steering situation like a "do you want x or y features focus for the next expansion" type thing, then let the community speak/vote and go from there. It would negate the whole 'no-one wanted space-legs' argument that I've seen many make for example - the no-one part is bunk btw, though it doesn't alter the truth that there were/are indeed many that either didn't want space-legs or it was a lower priority against other major features. But yeah, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Like when ship transfers were introduced, at least FDev took losing that one well even if the forums were less happy.

I'm glad they added little details like sitting down etc, because it's something that adds to the parts of the game I already interact with.
People had already asked for carrier interiors, which then necessitated sitting/position lock for the jump so adding sitting down elsewhere looks to me like it was an easy addition/win. I'm happy about it myself, I enjoy sitting at my carrier desk and bar even if it does open up a whole new avenue of things that could expand up on it.

I don't concern myself much about them spending time on that and not something like Powerplay because I don't have much interest in that part of the game.

I think Powerplay is either something that is immediately compelling for those who like that sort of thing who make up an indeterminate, possibly niche, segment of players - I'm sure metrics provide Frontier with data on that aspect, a gradual gain in interest over time as it seems to give more purpose to game activities for those who've played the game for a while, or just zero interest. Ironically, my interest in it is partly tempered by the voices who say it's very limited, which isn't to say they're wrong at all, and the possible time requirement to actually get anywhere with it.

Oh yeah, and bots for CQC please, I've never tried it but I'd kinda like to.
CQC is fun, there are some groups that were doing regular events, probably check out the new community calendar to see if anyone's put on up. I hope to see the onfoot equivalent of CQC at some point, I think that could be a right laugh.

Shh...
i'm saving on AX Combat logs and Xeno Defence Protocols - they might come in handy if they introduce on-foot xeno combat and xeno weapons/suits
I'm also saving on Building, Ship and Vehicle Schematics too

yea ok keep all the junk and add some more.....................….
I only wanted a saveable box that I can set a tick against the items I want to sell
that way I visit the bartender and click sell all items I want to sell done (which would take a second if that)
what I don't want to do Is sell each item I want sold individually every time I visit which can take 5 mins
but as I am pretty much done with the on foot upgrade side of the game don't suppose it matters too much now
well not for the moment any hoot

I can't think why the first leads to the second there...
Short but snippy answer: I can.
Still short but not verbose either answer: Likely due to way jumps have been implemented in Elite Dangerous since day one.
Existential leading to practical answer: There's no reason why it can't be seamless, but time/development costs enter into it to preclude that from happening right now.
Forum troll answer: Coz Fdev bad, innit.

Umm, I don't think I get it. You were saying that carrier interiors "necessitated sitting/position lock for the jump" - was that an FD statement or a player inference? Cos I can't see why it should be deemed necessary to sit down for a jump...

FAR TOO MANY CRASHES!! Since UD11.1 there are 'far too many crashes for no apparent reason when traveling in an SRV at a Guardian Site. I've had more) *than ten so far!
