While it's nice to watch a jump from the carrier Command Deck, I've noticed it does have a couple of niggles.
In terms of game mechanics, a carrier doesn't move as such. A new instance is created at the destination, the players on board are moved to it, and the old one deleted.
Sounds obvious, I know. However, there are a couple of ancillary effects that this also causes:
Fleet carrier livery and layout changes are now also applied when the instance is created, rather than immediately (at least if you're the only player on board; haven't tried it with others, but I suspect it either requires everyone to leave before changing, or players that leave and rejoin will wind up in a different instance to the ones that didn't leave yet). This means that you can start a jump in the old layout but the instance created at the end will use the new layout - the ship will actually change under you as you exit hyperspace into the new instance.
The NPCs on the command deck - and elsewhere, though you can't watch those when you jump - are randomly generated on instance creation. This means they will also shapeshift on jump exit. I was watching the two on the bridge console last jump, and the bald white guy on the right console managed the impressive feat of turning into a black girl with frizzy hair.
Non-random NPCs, the shop vendors generated in the services tab of carrier management*, are not affected. This suggests that a comparatively easy fix would be to use a couple of these on the bridge, especially given that there's one who's allegedly bridge crew anyway...
*On the subject of those, please could we either have much more control over their appearance than a random re-roll, or the ability to cancel out a re-roll on exiting the screen if we'd rather just keep the one we already had?
