Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

So here is a quote from the Azimuth saga page linked above, where Fdev put in black and white what Horizons players will get: "Therefore, Horizons players will be able to witness the final event in the Azimuth Saga and access related gameplay scenarios."

I agree, we were able to witness, but I disagree on "access related gameplay scenarios". Yesterday in Horizons in HIP 22460, no Goids around, nothing to scan, guardian tech (just fsd booster for me) was fine. So either an outright lie or a very mis leading statement. If we needed to use 4.0, but 4.0 was not available yesterday, we were not told Horizons would be in spectator only mode for the 8/9/2022 big event. Really does look like a tease and a sales pitch for Ody. No thanks Fdev, no thanks

I was SO impressed by that cutscene (shows how low my expectations really were, I suppose) and then immediately let down again by the complete lack of anything to do after watching it. Flying around lifeless debris fields and shipwrecks is pointless.

Back to some other game until at least Thursday when some new stuff might be produced by the weekly server tick..

Actually a friend launched Horizons with the 4.0 client and reports HIP 22460 being similar to how the system appears in Odyssey, with green glow on planet, and attacking thargoids. Also considering the launcher update I suppose FDev will switch this on in the near future.

Edit: Also flickering HUD and dying guardian modules.

How does this work again? Frontier haven't yet released the 4.0 Horizons client, but I recall someone saying a while back that they'd still managed to do it.

Allegedly they have the EDO modified lighting, planetary tech and are unable to disembark... sounds a little like Horizons running under 4.0, maybe...

At the risk of hitting a nerve ... you may recall how certain people got access to the Odyssey SRV before Frontier had officially released it or intended us to!

Just saying, we should be careful about drawing conclusions about what this modded 4.0 Horizons client can/can't do before it's official.

While I agree that the Horizons situation was not handled well...how on earth is this a sales pitch for Odyssey?

If their goal would have been to sell some more units of Odyssey, wouldn't they have made it crystal clear that you need the Odyssey client for the full experience? They didn't, they literally made people more likely to wait with buying Odyssey by announcing Horizons 4.0 recently. Anyone hesitant about it, be it due to performance or planet tech or anything like that, will be much more likely not to buy Odyssey yet to test the updated client with 4.0 first.

If the event would have been some sneaky/malicious way of selling more Odyssey...wouldn't they have made it very clear you need Odyssey, and then announced Horizons 4.0 after the event? They literally did the opposite of a sales pitch for Odyssey....

I just asked and apparently you have to replace the command line parameter /SeasonOne with /SeasonTwo when launching the game from the launcher, but don't ask me how it's done. Personally I'm not all that interested as I play Odyssey.. :)

In addition I just received a communication from commander Thrust to try /SeasonNine, apparently it's much better though performance might be subpar on today's hardware.. :D

I seem to recall commanders strolling around fleet carrier interiors before they were 'fully' operational as well.
