Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

I am actually surprised by all the complaining going on. FDev is doing something that not only did I never expect but something I never saw any other live service dev do: provide a copy of the game's setting for free so that players who don't like the (apparently big) changes coming to the game can choose to opt-out and continue to play the game the way they liked it. This is the opposite of what the doomsayers have been saying: instead of shutting the server down, FDev is adding an entirely new server!

And people still find a reason to complain....

You've never played the forum before.

I'd prefer if legacy mode allowed third party server connections and fdev opened the api up and allowed anyone who wanted and had the ability ...to create a third party server system. fdev would host an "official server" but anyone could fire up their own version with augmented rules, system overlays, narrative, etc. This could also be hosted off your own computer (if someone was nice enough to create and distribute such software)...and give players an effective offline option.
I like that, they could also licence out the console versions (and maybe even PC 3.8), either separately or more preferably altogether, to Sony, Microsoft or a trusted third party, to run themselves if they're either too tired or busy to do it properly anymore! 😯😀🤘

They should make a Hardcore mode now we have 2 commanders.
Make it Open Only with no insurance, and once you join it you can no longer play solo or pg on that character.

Well... as you asked nicely... name the system and I'll move mine, so long as it's not a lifetime to jump to.
Any empty (as in, unpopulated) system in the Bubble (assuming you're in the Bubble) works for me. I just hate trying to find a station or outpost in a system map filled with a hundred carriers.

It would also be nice if Frontier would fix the broken "Facilities" feature of the system map before branching (and abandoning) the Legacy Galaxy. I have a feeling I'll be relying on in-game tools more than ever after the great schism.

Think of it as an alternate or mirror universe...

What's stopping you doing it now. Sheesh!
It's a holiday week in the US. Most people aren't even home here right now. It is the single biggest travel day out of the year. Plus, globally, not everyone is glued to the FDev forum for up to the minute news at any time, let alone a holiday season.

More than even that, many were planning on using the Christmas holidays to update or build a PC - which is still a month away.

Giving only 6 days notice that console games will become virtually obsolete, after just stating two months ago that they would not, is beyond last minute warning. It is entirely reasonable, that a quarter of their player base should be afforded more than 6 days notice. Especially when they can't even decommission their carriers in that time.

It's really not difficult to understand.

2. To build upon point #1, I can and will copy my profile from XBox, but due to the short notice, it will take 7.5 days to decommission my FC. That is well beyond the scheduled Update 14 drop date. I will be opening a support ticket to request having the missing credits added (I already emptied the bank account and sold all modules I could), but this really is a huge oversight on y'alls part.
Then I imagine that your fleet carrier will be transferred and then decommissioned on console and on PC both 3.8 and 4.0 in 7.5 days time.

What's difficult to understand that console players have been given, for free, an additional account simply for asking, and an entire universe that will continue to run for some time so you get to keep your old stuff at the same time?

As an Odyssey player on PC, no one is offering me free stuff. Sheesh. Talk about entitled.

The world isn't run for the USA.
There are literally dozens of other countries with hundreds of people living in them that don't celebrate 'holidays'.

Ah right, but in that case you get the credits no?
Nope. Since FCs are tied to unique CMDR ID's, they were not part of the process at all.
As you can see, FDev was on top of their game with regards to the FAQ on console transfers (this was created two months ago with no update to the FC section).

Is it even possible for you to be an adult and have an adult conversation?

I'm not asking for, nor getting anything for "free". I paid for Elite Dangerous. Full price. I paid for the Horizons expansion. Full price. That is not "free".

I said absolutely nowhere that I want them to continue to "run an entire universe" for me for "free". In September they said we could transfer our console accounts "indefinitely" and when that came to an end the would provide "enough time" for us to get everything transferred. 6 days is not ample warning. You can't even decommission a carrier in that time if you started the exact second they made the announcement.

That's it. That's all.

Maybe try to stop being childish "sheessh - eyeroll" and understand that when a company makes assurances and then immediately goes back on those assurances, that is an issue. And a valid one.

Sorry I forgot the details of the transfer and carriers in particular, especially since I'm a PC player.

That sounds very unfortunate indeed..!

Ok, and? Where did I suggest it was? It's specifically why I said "in the US", because I understand it's not a holiday everywhere. So that invalidates my point in what way? 6 days is remarkably short notice for this announcement for console players. Just because I included information about the US holiday week?

I guess then FDev shouldn't include a Black Friday event then.... Since Black Friday is a colloquial term for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States.
