[video] Material traders are HORRIBLE

I miss opposite POV in this discussion. That's all. All these videos carter to specfic and vocal player group, while not contributing much new to feedback.

I am not dismissing people's work going into videos. I don't like clickbait titles and easy scores with audience.

I see what you're saying. I do hope that some of these more reasonable points are address by Frontier more in time though.

The current system is usable, of course, and should likewise be used for what it's good for, not what it's bad for. I'm just hoping for more good from it in the future, if you know what I mean.

So what you're saying is that you guys are two opposite sides of the same coin, or are you actually trying to make a serious point here? [hehe]

...

The trader's aren't a bank. They provide a service at a premium. Some of us just think that that premium is excessive in some ways, especially considering some of the other limitations in the game, such as material storage capacity.

I'm saying some people have unreasonable expectations.

I think biggest diff between opinions comes about pace of credit 'progression' in game. I haven't seen any video tackling that yet. Because it is actually very interesting subject in general.

Obsidian Ant has put out some. In general, I don't think there is much of an issue with it, if any really. I manage just fine in the game and seem to make a lot less than most others in the game. I'm playing a somewhat different game and for different reasons than some though, it seems. It isn't a race to the "end-game" for me. I'd rather enjoy it for what it's worth and has to offer.

Trouble is, if the video makers feel that way about the game, then that is the way they are going to make the video. There's nothing wrong with that.

Personally, I tend to try and be as balanced in my videos as I can. However, if I really dislike something, I will occasionally put out my complete biased opinion. This has nothing to do with potential view numbers (I don't need to make "click bait" or "Echo Chamber" videos to get that, I will get views regardless (and views aren't why I make videos anyway)).

That said, I also put out a lot of positive videos, and on those videos you will notice there are a lot of awesome comments from people who genuinely love the game.

But if there's not enough positive videos all round from content creators, and if they are all always covering "negative" topics - then I think that is very telling. It's not just a case of being an echo chamber, and it's rarely about views. Saying "Engineers are HORRIBLE" is an opinion (even if wrong), that doesn't make it clickbait. Saying "Player Discovers THIS Secret Formula to WINNING, and Devs HATE him!" is more like clickbait, even "I BROKE the Material Trader" would be clickbait. I don't know any Elite content creators who do that, or anything remotely close.

On an unrelated note any content creator that is in it purely for the views, rarely stays around long - you will see that type of creator doesn't make a lot of content, or they make it in bursts and then disappear. The whole process is very, very time consuming - so you need to have a passion for it. And Yamiks certainly has that. He does love the game, if he didn't, he wouldn't be making the videos in the first place.

Couldn't agree more. If players were trading mats between themselves I'd hazard a guess that the going rates would be nothing like they are now. It would certainly be 1-1 across and I reckon about 75-100 G1 for 1 G5. This is how they should be set. What is the point in preventing people from trading up and across other than forcing you to do certain activities such as USS hunting [cry].

Why can't we be free to play the game how we want and trade the mats for what we need without horrendous loss of value and therefore time?

Offtopic: That's why I am really wary to criticize you guys even if I disagree :) Because I have done few videos and podcasts on my own and incredible amount of work to even put something that resembles one is...huge. Just wanted to put out - my POV about lack of POV doesn't decrease my respect for quality of production of your videos.

I guessing if I want to have a bit of flavor of different POVs represented I better start to do videos on my own :D

Thanks. And I'd happily watch them! :)

Sounds like too much "unknown probing," if you ask me. Might help explain a few things though. :D

Well people have been wondering where those baby Thargoid Scouts come from...

Bank on point, I think there is a reasonable conversation to had here without polarizing the player base around talking points. There's too much of that these days anyway. It's perfectly fine to disagree with someone, but keep in mind that we all have our own points of view and expectations from the game.

Sorry if I'm being patronizing or something. I feel I shouldn't need to say this, but it is what it is, and these are the times we live in.

OP's video may be a bit exaggerated, stylized, and comical, but I think there are some points of merit in there none the less, if taken in modest levels of context at any rate, and a bit of salt or sugar as you might prefer. ;)

Now if they could just work the stick and pips like that where it counts. :p

I've been saying this about the idea of mat' traders since before Sandro first mentioned the possibility of them.

Nobody listened, though.
The min/maxers all thought it'd make it easier to get the stuff they needed and, well, almost everybody else thought the same thing too.

Well, congratulations.
You've now got something which supports, encourages and reinforces one of the most tedious aspects of the game.
Enjoy! [up]

this is the CHEEZIEST way to get views...

Cheese is kind of par for the course though. Isn't it?

Have to admit that it does seem a little contrived making a video and then posting it here like that. Well, either way, I think it's at least a somewhat important conversation to have, so at least it helps facilitate that.

...

Anyway, I've already posted my thoughts on this issue previously in the thread, if anyone cares to read them, so no need for me to carry on with the minutia.

Cheers, Commanders.
