Guide / Tutorial Voice Controlling Elite:Dangerous - A Guide

Personally, i don't mind too much having to repeat the same command to switch a toggled state, but of course a dedicated command is neater, hence the second (bit more complicated) solution, at least until FD adds a new keybind to always go front view

Still no official documentation on the new VA features, you best bet is this post here and a bit of trial&error while using the new user interface for the conditionals.

That helps... Thanks!

ps: I hate you! I'm going to waste a load of time on this now instead of playing the damn game :)

Ah... I feel your pain :p

Ever since I got my X52 a year ago, and then VA recently, I've wasted so much time tinkering with controls over and over to find "THE" perfect layout for every space-sim i have...
I even digged for the source code of (R.I.P.) Elite: TNK to add some additional keybinds myself, to accomodate for this stuff...

You can set and IF condition on variables in VA??? That would be a solution!!!!

EDIT: It seems you can use variables & conditions in VA. I kind find any documentation on it though :( I'll need to go away and look!

Yes, and I think it one of those things where a simple tool in the program can open up a lot of potential. I just started playing with something that may or may not be useful, but it's fun messing with it.

With the fuel issues now present, I thought, wouldn't it be nice if the ship would remind me so I don't go off and not get more fuel after a few jumps? Well, can't really have her monitor the actual fuel level, but...what if I happen to notice before I get to the station I'm running low?

So now I have about five different phrases I most likely will say, such as "remind me about fuel". This triggers both a response (so I know she's listening, because you know how ships are), and it sets a variable "need fuel".

The next time I'm in a station and use my macro to start the launch sequence in the hanger, she'll check that variable, and say one of a number of phrases to remind me that at some point I had expressed fuel needs, and kill the sequence (and clear the variable, so I can just start it again if all is well). I think as I'm typing, I'll add a command to clear that variable when I get fuel too, so I can avoid that as well.

But it's just an imperfect way of using your ship as a notepad, and a good spot (the launch) to stop if you haven't at least thought about it. And, I'm sure there's other needs like that coming.

Hi There, I like your concept an I don't think it is a waste using VA as a glorified notepad, it's an imerssive game, we cannot remember everything in game (keys especially). I am all for banter and other in game chatter from Emma, my ever reliable voice activated computer companion as sh always points out to me.

I would love to do more with it but programming is not my strong suite sadly but as each day progresses more is added.

Would be really interested in knowing how you set about doing these steps (no problem if you'd rather not) :)

I'm also really looking forward to the extra flexibility that VA's advanced commands are going to offer.

I've already set up a test profile that uses the random number generator to set a variable which can then be used to pick one of 5 random response phrases from my sound pack.

Next thing I want to do is create a variable that tracks the state of things like my Ship's lights and therefore knows when to turn them off or leave them on.

Even tricky things like counting how many times I jump (well at least how many times I SAY 'jump')and then reminding me to refuel before resetting the counter.

When the VoiceAttack version with these features gets out of beta I'll probably do a demo profile that shows off some of this stuff.

^ All that sounds great, but the problems of course are:-
1) If you happen to press any keys to activate features that VA controls and keeps track of, it falls apart. So it's all or nothing.
2) If you leave/restart a game you'll need to initiate a command to reset/clear all the variables.

So anyone tried the new voice comms in ED? Anyone planned on how they're going to make it and VA live happily side by side?

For the moment I've just allocated a key (SHIFT) to mute the mic in ED. So if I'm talking and then want to initiate a command ("landing gear down"), I can just hold SHIFT so its not broadcast to the other pilot.

I know.. there's challenges involved :D But i was certainly thinking of a 'reset' command.

I've tried the in game voice comms with VA running and it works fine. As you say, you can just mute the mic before issuing a command to VA. Although it can be fun to hear everything that happens  which is what I normally do.

And for Team Speak? Seems a bit more of a pain.

ie: You'd ideally want to hold a key down to disable TS for a moment while issuing a VA command?

Try this

Go into Settings > Options > Hotkeys. Now add Microphone > Toggle Mic.. Mute or add Microphone > Mute Microphone

Try this

Go into Settings > Options > Hotkeys. Now add Microphone > Toggle Mic.. Mute or add Microphone > Mute Microphone

It's a bit of a pin but you can bind a key down to mute, and a key release to unmute.

And then go into settings to remove the vocal warning of it happening.

So I now have CTRL + SHIFT to to mute in TS and the same in ED.

Glad you got it working. For me at least I find the push to talk worked better, especially when streaming.

Most of the time I'm talking to VA and not people... But when I am talking to someone I'm then mostly speaking to them instead of VA :)
