Guide / Tutorial Voice Controlling Elite:Dangerous - A Guide

Thanks for this thread guys, really enjoying the VA stuff in ED, with my Hotas-X its really useful, saves me time and add to immersion!

Question, has anyone managed to add a talk command to request docking? I figure it should be possible?

It's sort of doable, but FD need to provide a few options to make it possible to create an elegant solution. The problem is that currently, the game 'cleverly' remembers the last sub menu (tab) that you were on and also allows infinite/wrap-around scrolling. I'll be modifying the script used in the post below so that the pause allows me to manually select the correct sub-menu/tab.

Amazing work mate!

I'm not sure if i'm asking too much but could you share your profile with us?

Kudos :)

I strongly recommend you read the discussion from post #52 in the other thread I linked to above. The script zeroy will have created will only work if you haven't gone into the targets panel and moved to a different tab (sub-panel) before invoking it. ie If you run the macro once, the second time you run it will do something unexpected. So you won't be able to use it for repeat requests if the station has denied your initial request.

Options include :-

1) Adding in a pause (eg 3 seconds) in the macro that activates after pulling up the Targets tab, so you can manually ensure that the correct tab is selected before the macro continues on.

2) Creating two macros. One for the initial Docking Request and one for repeat requests.
Example :-
You : "Request Docking." - This triggers the first macro, which will include two steps to the right ("E" and "E").
Station : "Request Denied."
You : "Awww please!" - This triggers a similar macro, but doesn't include any steps to the right.

I'm going to guess that executing zeroy's macro twice in a row, would tab you back round to the Navigation sub-menu. Then depending on the location you are currently pointing to there, it'll probably try and hyperspace you to that location.

I do hope someone "up top" see these topics

Quoting myself from that post...

Could be solved easily 3 ways that I can see...I reckon 3 is best:
(when I say tabs I mean sub menu's)
1. Have A key to reset to the 1st tab in the UI menu (or reset the UI's)
2. Have an option (selectable) that resets the UI to the 1st tab when you exit that UI
3. Each of the UI's sub tabs has its own keyboard shortcut (ie contacts is Shift+2, or modules in the right UI is Control+2)

This way you can set every VA or macro command to go directly to that menu directly and not have to worry about the UI's starting location

My solution is to have a VA command that opens the Navigation UI panel, if the menu is not on the left-most option I say TAB until it is and then I say REQUEST.

REQUEST just runs through the sequence SELECT, DOWN, SELECT, CLOSE.

I suppose I could set up TAB 2 or TAB 5 and it would just tab through the required number of menu headers. In fact, I might just go and do that now.

While I've not had much chance to play Elite in the last few months due to a new addition to the family I am very pleased to see that the VoiceAttack thread is still going strong.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Yeah, Im placing the selection back on first TAB so you can do the macro over and over again. But yes also, it only works providing your selection of that first panel is set to the first tab. Works great! until Frontier give us some keys to access each TAB individually.

Thanks, as I use the free Trial of VA at present I cannot export - or at least I dont know how. I will be getting the full version in a matter of days and will post CFG then!

I don't see the point in going back to the start the Target screen remembers where you were last so simply dropping the tab right (E) x 2 keeps you on the same screen an executes the command swifter. On repeat requests I mean

I thought this was stated in earlier post ;)

Re: Docking macro in Voice Attack

Here is my solution:

request+docking.JPG

"E" = "go one tab to the right"
"S" = "go down a line in the tab"

You might be able to shorten the pause between keystrokes, but a pause you need.

If you need to "repeat docking request", do a second macro with the starting point already in the communication tab on the line which is the station, i.e. "1", "spacebar", "S", "spacebar", "1" (iirc, dont have a screeny right now here).

How do you get around the navigation menu not starting at its default position ??

I don´t. It always starts at the navigation tab when I arrive in a system. If you want to target stuff and then dock, the macro does not work. I use this macro primarily when I am hauling.

Where do you find out when a new beta is available? There is a bug in the current beta I'm using that I'm waiting to be fixed, but clearly I'm not aware of when new beta's are released? What can I subscribe to?
