VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

…it is saddening that at launch however it was possible to play the on foot stuff in VR in a round about sort of way*** and rather than improve it, or do nothing even and leave it alone, FD instead chose to block it. That makes no sense to me at all
It was a bugged version of the camera suite - with the actual camera suite controls not working at all, if I remember correctly. When the Update which fixed the vanity cam rolled out, the glitch cam was the casualty. I’m sure more players benefited from getting a working suite than VR players (like myself) lost out on with the glitch cam.

Hopefully it’s something that can be revisited in the future 🤞

ahh ok i didnt know it was broken for everyone outside of VR.......... that would explain it i guess then :ROFLMAO:

I should’ve specified the camera suite controls were not working in VR - flatscreen users were unaffected.

I don’t think many VR users were using the glitch cam at the time, performance was pretty dire everywhere except out in the wastelands. In the camera suite Focused Feedback thread I recall more players wanting the proper controls working again for VR.

They've got more willpower than me then. I can't help but check to see how the latest moaning is going 🤷‍♂️
Yebbut, there is only so much complaining they can read, so why bother with something that isn't going to be addressed in the forseeable future...
May as well be more griping about planetary tiling, another ex-topic.

Some of the recent responses to this thread is distributing, reading many negative views towards the usage of VR.
Frontier decided to not support VR for the legs part of Elite and VR users asking Frontier to reconsider VR support.
But instead of supporting the VR community many are looking at the VR community as villains.

I believe that the users of VR are some of the largest Elite Dangerous loyal supporter’s.

Asking for VR support is only asking for a game feature that will keep many more playing and engaged along with bring in more new VR users that will help keep this game alive and current.

I have VR, use VR as and when I wish, but see the 'VR community' here to be something I have no wish to be associated with - villains is a little extreme, possibly - but very reminiscent of a 5 year old who doesn't like the word 'no'.

Here, let me do something for 'the community'....

@sallymorganmoore - is there any further point in discussing VR when 'the community' have already been given, essentially, a negative response? Are there 'things' going on, behind the scenes, to bring a 'glorious FULL VR experience' to EDO?

Perhaps you could be kind enough to enquire, thanks!

Do you have conclusive proof of that statement?

EDO has the same VR implementation as Horizons - and is an optional DLC - why is the number of Horizons VR users not increasing exponentially as more HMDs are sold? If the base game isn't attracting new users, why would optional DLC change things?

You're a bit harsh but sometimes the blunt word is better than sugar coating.

Believe it or not, I'm just being honest as I perceive things here (and elsewhere, oddly enough) - it would appear from reading around that the 'VR Community' in some games are exactly as I described - even prompting a statement from one studio describing the 'VR heads' on their forum as extremely toxic... Since this forum has shed a couple of the real reactionary VR users it has toned down a little, in comparison. But the word 'no' is still proving hard for some to digest.

Very well said Rocket.

I for one wasn’t interested in Elite till I got VR and looking of VR titles.
If Frontier made a announcement of VR legs for Odyssey, you would get coverage by Road to VR, Upload VR, Gaming Magazine’s,YouTubbers, that’s all free advertising.

TBH there are not that many VR games that equal Elite Dangerous in VR and investing in a new technology as VR, users will be looking for good software.
Over 4 million copies of Beat Saber have been sold as of 2020.

Apple, Meta, Valve are just a few months away from VR/AR exciting new technology announcements.

Odyssey could use some positive articles and reviews.
